The only reason to go to the Getty is for the architecture and the gardens. The permanent collection is horrible. 99% of the artwork there is un-influential and boring. Getty w...

Nice museum towering over Los Angeles 8/18/2005

The Getty Museum is located on top of the mountain overlooking Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. The museum has numerous galleries in this architecturally innovative museum. It has an outside garden that is very beautiful in the summer, not so much in the wintertime though. There is no parking up at the Getty, you need to catch a shuttle at the bottom of the hill. A visit to the Getty is recommended for tourists and vistors to Los Angeles. We tend to here yearly to check out exhibits. I would recommend to all from kids to adults. more

A Must See in LA 8/18/2005

It is totally free if you take bus. You can take metro bus 761 whose stop is just under that hillside of getty center. You will take a small train going to the getty center which is located at the mountaintop. You can enjoy the art collections, the architectures, even the breeze. Wonderful Place! more

Lots of art in the Getty 8/18/2005

The JP Getty museum sits on top of a hill right off the 405 freeway. It is a huge place to walk around and see artworks from different artists and time periods. There is a little subway that takes you up the hill to the museum itself. You have to park down the hill or get reservations by the phone. There is also a cafetaria inside for food and drinks. It will probably take a day or so to see everything inside. The best part is that it is free. more

A Definite Go!!! 8/17/2005

The Getty Center is definitely a must go for everyone. If you are interested in architecture, history, art, or even just the Los Angeles view(not the smog), you have to visit it. I have visited the museum four times after moving to Los Angeles. The admission is free, but there is a five dollar parking fee. However you can get free parking if you park your car in local parking lot, and take the shuttle there. more

Very beautiful museum 8/17/2005

The Getty Center is famous for it's beautiful archiecture as well as well known art pieces that it houses. There are usually some kind of special exhibition or event going on to check out. The location is very attractive with lots of plants and flowers. The view is also spectacular since it is on a hill. Parking used to be a problem that required reservations but it doesn't seem to be as difficult anymore. A place all Los Angelesans should check out. more

Art 8/17/2005

The Getty Center is located at the top of a hill just over the Sepulveda Pass. Traffic can get bad going over the hill. The museum is really pretty. Very modern and it has lots of art and a nice outdoor area for sitting. From its patio and garden area you can see all the way to the ocean on a clear day. more

So many things 8/16/2005

There are so many things to see at this museum that you can't possibly do it all in one trip. And things are always changing. Besides the art, there is beautiful architecture, pretty fountains, and gardens everywhere. There is also a place where you can look out over the city and see everything. It is not a place you should rush through just so you can see everything. It is a place you should relax. Eat lunch, lounge in the grass, take time to appreciate what you're looking at, etc. It would also be a nice place to study. They have activities for kids and tours too. I've heard there's free parking if you take a motorcycle and that there is also a shuttle that goes from Westwood to the Getty, but I haven't experienced these personally. more

Great museum, large buildings, beautiful architecture 8/14/2005

I love this museum because they have big beautifully designed buildings full of great works of art from many periods of time. My favorite section is the greek and roman sculptures of gods made completely of marble and standing larger than life size. The ticket price in inexpensive and worth every penny. I would highly recommend you visit this museum if you have any class in you. more

Getty museum 8/13/2005

If you have not visited the Getty museum, you are doing yourself a disservice. It is easily one of the most important places to visit if you are in the SoCal area. It will leave you breathless at times and is truly a cultural experience that will leave an impression on you. The outside architecture is a bit more futuristic/modern than the old Getty museum in Malibu which was more of a Tuscan(?) style. I was left in awe at the sheer size of the museum and truly enjoyed the works of art displayed there. What are YOU waiting for?! more

Superb! 8/13/2005

One of the best family oriented museum in town The Getty tops them all situated in a mountain it offers a stunning & panoramic view of the surroundings. If you love arts then this place will astound you and amaze you for it's collections. What makes it even better is its FREE. Please visit the place its highly recommended. more

Great cultural place with great views 8/11/2005

The Getty has so much to offer visitors. Admission to the museum is free, with the exception of having to pay for parking. The museum itself is situated on the top of a hill with breath-taking views of the surrounding Los Angeles area in the absence of smog. The exhibits are exquisite, offering many different styles including: photography, sculptures, paintings and many more. The gardens are also extremely beautiful and a great spot to take pictures. more

Class on a hill 8/10/2005

The Getty Center is a great place to take the family or date. It has free admission, but you have to pay for parking. The Getty Center has wonderful exhibits, beautiful gardens, and amazing architecture. I would highly recommend everyone to go to the Getty to escape the hectic, smoggy Los Angeles city scene. more

Great Views, Great Art, Great Gardens 8/10/2005

With a constantly revolving selection of art and exhibits the Getty amazed me on my first visit. Not only can you see the ocean from some parts, and the city from others, the place has sprawling lawns to sit down and eat lunch on, gardens to explore, and helpful guides. Great place for a date on a lazy Monday in Los Angeles. Only problem is getting there as its location means driving the dreaded 405 freeway. Parking is ample and was $7 at the time I went. The Museum has no entrance fee. more

The Getty Center 8/9/2005

The famous Getty Center is an outstanding place to go during the weekdays, not that many people, you can enjoy the whole place yourself. It is really close to Westwood, if you visit west Los Angeles or Santa Monica you have to stop there. To get to the Getty Center, you park your car and take the train to the top of the hill (parking is five dollars, everything else is free). When you are on the top of the hill, on a clear day, you can see the beautiful Los Angeles. Getty Center is a great place to go for everyone! more

Simply Incredible 8/5/2005

This is one of the few must-sees in LA. Not because it represents LA, but because it is just so darn gorgeous. This museum is situated on a hill overlooking the 405 Fwy and West LA and features gorgeous views all around. The grounds are immaculate and open. In fact, it's such a beautiful place that the artwork feels almost like an afterthought. I guess it is kind of like LA - so much effort to make the outside perfect, kind of hides a paucity of character inside. But it makes for a beautiful day in LA to spend the day wandering around the grounds and the galleries. It's also free, thanks to over a hundred years of getting gouged by Getty Oil. more

The Getty Center, a work of art overlooking Los Angeles 8/4/2005

The Getty Center is nice museum on top of the hills. To get there, you park and then take the tram up to the museum quarters. The Getty Center holds paintings, furniture, and many other works of art. There are historical artifacts and many paintings from many eras. The Getty Center also boasts of a beautiful garden area. The main attraction in the garden area is the huge maze-like structure where flowers and plants grow in a spiral position surrounded by water and other trees and plants. It is a sight to see. The Getty Center is a good choice for school functions like field trips and is also a great place to take the family. more

A amazing museum where you can see all the greats. 7/30/2005

If you haven't been to the Getty, run there now. Their art can't be beat. They have all the classics in their beautiful galleries. Their gardens and mazes are amazing. Make sure you check out the view while you're there. The Getty is free making it a great deal. Parking is far, but a shuttle will take you. This is one of the greatest museums L.A. has to offer. more

My favorite museum! 7/27/2005

This was a great day for me and my daughter...we had a blast. The exhibits were great - interesting enough for an 8 year old to really get into. The Children's section was surprisingly bad...nothing interesting to be seen and it was the size of a bathroom, literally. The food is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive, but I guess the fact that the museum's free will make up for it. Go early to beat the tourist crowd and have fun! more

Spectacular View of West Los Angeles 7/25/2005

Beautiful Museum overlooking West LA just off the 405 Freeway. Their galaries are mostly european paintings and other pieces of art. They have a photography section and some beautiful gardens offering amazing views. Everything is affordable, including the museum restaurant, which is a rarity. Museum guides are friendly and helpful and the architecture is an art piece all its own. more
