service struggles... 8/28/2004

I've been to Tango more than once, but after this last trip, I won't be returning. After our waitress ditched us (it wasn't even busy, this was a tuesday evening) it took 45 minutes to simply order some rolls. From there, we waited 30 minutes with empty glasses without eye contact from the waitress to give up and nab a bus girl to check on our order. Apparently the Scorpion Roll, which comes out of the kitchen, takes longer. We were treated like haughty scum for inquiring about a few sushi rolls after 30 minutes. After an additional 30 minutes (yes, that totals one hour) the sushi arrived, both the cold and hot rolls lukewarm. The waitress never said anything about it, our drinks were never refilled, I never got my soup, and I will never bring my family there again. Pros: tasty appetizers, good decorations, convenient location Cons: , careless waitstaff, not-so-fresh rolls more

snooty waitress lose the tude! 10/26/2003

The sushi was only average, nowhere near as good as Origami, but the service is what was most annoying. The waitress totally blew us off once she realized we weren't going to order the overpriced drinks. The people next to us (who arrived after us) had a couple bottles of wine and she was all over them, continually adding to their orders, checking in on them, before we ever saw one piece of sushi. She took our order in haste, and started to walk away while we were still talking to her! It was 45 minutes before we saw any food and she never stopped by to let us know what was going on. The girl busing our table was nicer and more involved! I will not be returning to this place, lose the attitude! Pros: quickly seated Cons: rude waitress, mediocre sushi, unusually long wait more

Flipper 7/20/2003

Sushi Tango is not quite as polished as Origami, Kikugawa or Fuji-ya but it is quite good. My girlfriend had never had sushi so we opted for some first-timer friendly rolls and tempura squid (Ika). The Unagi (freshwater eel) was excellent, as were the spicy tuna rolls and dynamite rolls. The Philly rolls were dominated by cream cheese but still good. Price range is average for sushi. If you want to impress a visiting Japanese or Californian, you might go elsewhere but Sushi Tango is worth a try. Pros: selection, price is avg Cons: not as elegant, service inconsistent more

Midwestern Sushi At It's Best 3/23/2003

And that isn't saying much. I fully agree with the previous reviewer who pegged Sushi Tango as typical "mall" quality sushi. The presentation is nearly as bland as the food. I encourage readers to survey a variety of of sushi restaurants to really know what it is. And if possible, do it in a much larger city if possible. The sign for this restaurant features a caricature of an Asian person which I find offensive. This is the same juvenile and sophomoric mentality behind Chino Latino's offensive ads. Enjoying the food from a culture is not a license to belittle the culture in which it orginates. But then we are in Minnesota after all. What can we expect ? Cons: Bland homogenized, Obnoxious Yuptown, Midwestern cusiine more

fresh fish and knowledgable staff 2/24/2003

We had a great time. We started at the bar with one of the best martini's that I have ever had!! We moved on to the sushi bar where we were entertained by the sushi chefs and wowed by the servers!! They sushi chefs kept us busy with a fresh and beautiful array of fish that was as good to eat as it was to look at!! (Not to mention that they made me some sort of flower out of fresh vegetables) The server was quick and on top of her game. She could answer all of our questions and was back in a flash with whatever we needed. We ended our dinner with the green tea creme brule which was a perfect ending to a great meal!! Pros: quick seating, easy parking Cons: uncomfortable chairs more

fresh and fun 2/2/2003

Sushi Tango offers outstandingly fresh fish with a flair. The staff is fun, upbeat on on top of the game. Tango has a large following, and treats every one of them like an old friend. Great place for a large group to celebrate. The rolls are fantastic, and the nigiri is even better!!!! more

Nice Sunday Lunch Spot! 1/12/2003

Visited at lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised. Not crowded (Sunday) and all the requisite, expected Japanese staples were represented on the menu. Nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary but, then again, the prices were not out of hand (save for a few of the specialty rolls) either like some of the other sushi places in town. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. Our food was prompt and of good quality. I have no complaints and will visit again. All around, a nice experience if you don't mind eating within a mall. Pros: Good quality sushi, Decent sake list, Friendly service Cons: No free parking!, Mall setting more

great sushi. 1/8/2003

I only come here for the Sushi & sit at the Sushi Bar. Yellowtail & salmon are my favorites - very fresh & buttery. I ask for sushi suggestions after that and the chefs always steer me right (usually special rolls). Seaweed salad varies - sometimes fresh & excellent other time just ""ok."" Pros: awesome sushi, fun sushi chefs more

Some style - no substance 12/26/2002

This is mall sushi at it's finest - which isn't saying much. I went with a large group - some meals didn't arrive until others were finished. Service was indifferent. Sushi was very ordinary. Atmosphere was standard upscale fast food. Pros: convenient location Cons: ordinary food more

Chef Tengo knows what he's doing 11/15/2002

Every sushi place I've been to that Chef Tengo has been associated with has been wonderful. Sushi Tango is no exception. The Tango Maki rolls were so good I had to get a second order. I've been twice and everything I've had has been melt-in-your-mouth good (especially the sockeye salmon when you can get it). Definitely among my favorite sushi restaurants. Pros: fresh, good service more
