Editorial review from Citysearch 8/21/2014

These guys rock!\r \r Thank you, Shreve Automotive, for restoring my faith. There ARE honest mechanics out there, after all. They all work at 1812 Rutland Dr. in Austin, TX!!!\r Keep up the good work, guys!\r \r I'd like to thank Shreve Automotive for providing me with EXCEPTIONAL service today. I called them this morning at around 8:30 am. They were friendly, helpful and they even offered to give me a ride back to work if I'd bring my car over so they could check it out.\r When I arrived at their shop, I was impressed. They look more like a dealership then a repair shop.\r The Service department staff were courteous, friendly and professional, and VERY efficient. I dropped off my car and was sitting back at my desk at work all within about 15-20 minutes. Impressive!\r Ryan gave me a ride back to work, and he was very nice. I'd planned to have someone at my office stay late to give me a ride back to Shreve, but Ryan assured me that he would be happy to give me a ride back to pick up my car when the diagnosis was complete.\r The service department called to let me know that an alignment was all that my vehicle really needed, and asked if I would like for them to proceed with the alignment. (An automotive repair shop that is actually honest about what needs to be repaired??? AWESOME! Asking me first before they do any work that costs me $??? FANTASTIC!)\r \r I'm a woman and when I take my car to someone for repair or diagnosis, 95% of the time, I wind up angry, disappointed, and frustrated. In general, I've found that the automotive industry is full of lying, cheating thieves. Even though I'm a woman, I'm not completely ignorant about auto mechanics. I work on my own car, and I know when someone is trying to take advantage me just because they think that I don't have a clue about what's under the hood of my vehicle. I'm VERY cautious when dealing with just about anyone that works in the automotive industry because I've seen how corrupt most of the shops out there really are. It is very rare these days to find an honest mechanic. To find a full-service shop that employs friendly, honest, hard-working mechanics and service professionals? UNBELIEVEABLE!\r \r Thank you, Shreve Automotive, for restoring my faith. There ARE honest mechanics out there, after all. They all work at 1812 Rutland Dr. in Austin, TX!!!\r Keep up the good work, guys! more

Best auto repair! 2/7/2012

We have taken are cars there for years - They have ALWAYS been nice, helpful and do a great job every time. They maybe a little on the high side, but I would rather pay a little more and KNOW that the job is done right the first time. more

AUSTIN'S BEST AUTOMOTIVE SHOP 2/1/2012

I have taken my car there a number of times for different things and I get it back better than new. They have professional service and use good parts such as AC Delco and Motorcraft. Thanks again Shreve guys. more

poor work 9/27/2011

i do not work for shreve either.\r \r I took my 4wd truck in there for an alignment. I picked it up and immediately it pulled hard left. After numerous attempts (3) to have them correct it I never heard back from old man bill or toby. I do not recommend this shop to anyone. more

Easy to recommend 6/9/2011

I don't work for Shreve either. \r \r This is an honest business that can actually repair vehicles correctly. They probably charge the same as a dealer, because most repairs seem to be assigned ""standard times"" to fix and they probably charge the same rates.\r \r Shreve takes the time to make an accurate assessment of the problem, to call you with an explanation and the cost of repair, and to let you decide whether you want to go ahead - without any kind of pressure. No nonsense about ""extra problems"" they found that need ""immediate attention"". \r \r You get to work with the same people, not the service-manager-of-the-day. The main intake guy is Bill. He is great. You'll enjoy dealing with this company and can also feel confident they will do the work correctly. They usually get the car back in one day.\r \r Honesty and competence in one package.\r \r more

Shreve Automotive is the only place I take my car 8/30/2010

Here's another review from someone who doesn't work for Shreve. I've lived in Austin 15 years now, and they were recommended to me by a co-worker about 13 years ago. I'm a guy that worrys about getting ripped off (because it's happened before). I've been seeing Bill to have my cars taken apart and put back together again, and have been satisfied with every experience. I wouldn't say they are the least expensive team I've had work on my car, but I can say that I've never taken my car back because it wasn't fixed right. I trust them to fix that which needs fixing, and not fix things that don't need fixing.\r \r They have done things for me like brake jobs on imports, tune ups on newer and older cars, they removed the front dash of my mustang to replace the coil when my ac leaked, all without a hitch. Hmmm, then there was the transmission in my daughters pickup truck (chevrolet at 125K miles). \r \r I have an old pickup from my dad, which they don't normally like to work on, and when I couldn't get a new engine to run right, they put a new camshaft in that for me (as the engine hadn't been broken in properly) and took care of the old gasoline in one of the tanks. When I filled the old plastic saddle tanks with gasoline and they split, well, they took care of that too.\r \r Their shop is clean, the waiting room has free wifi, and if you drop your car off in the morning they will give you a ride to work. One morning I was suprised when old Mr. Shreve drove me to the office.\r \r The place is run like a competent family business who cares, and I won't take my car anywhere else. more

Shreve Truck Shop: Great service 6/11/2009

My family has gone to Shreve Truck Shop for many years. They have done great work for us and provided us with top-notch service. I highly recommend them. more

Keep away! 9/4/2008

Here's review from someone who doesn't work for Shreve. Thank goodness this WASN'T a doctor, otherwise they'd be dead, just like my car is. After taking my car in and spending $800 to replace the radiator, 4 days later it won't even drive. Who cares if they've been in Austin since 1984 - Don't go to this place. Cons: Everything more

A Good, honest, dependable, and reputable mechanic! 6/26/2008

I spent 7 years as an auto mechanic in the 1970's; now I work on computers, and gave up working on my own cars about 20 years ago. I've been taking my cars to Shreve's since about 1984.\r \r Whenever someone asks me about where to get their car worked on, I tell them ""Shreve's"".\r \r I can trust Bill, the service manager, or any of the other service writers to tell it to me straight and fix it right. In the rare event that there is an issue, they will make it right. All of their technicians are ASE ceritified and know their craft, and keep up-to-date with the latest automotive technology.\r \r When you take you car there, and tell them what's wrong, they don't write down ""change the alternator"" of ""replace the shocks"", they write down ""diagnose charging system issues"" or ""inspect suspension system"". Think about it. When you go to the doctor, they run tests, or inspect your health indicators, or run diagnostic checks, they don't just replace parts. \r \r Shreve Automotive is the doctor for what ails your car. I trust them with mine. Pros: Honesty, thoroughness, and automotive expertise. ASE Ceritfied Mechanics Cons: Hmm, wish they were open longer hours? more
