Great Date Place! 8/24/2009

My GF and I went to SF to celebrate our 1 year anniversary and wanted to do so without an agenda. So, we dropped into Yoshi's for dinner and sort of walked around afterwards to soak in the evening. We came across Sheba on a fluke. The live music that we heard coming from the lounge sucked us in. When we'd entered, the lighting was dim and there was this ambiance that made us immediately relax. It's a small, intimate, venue with lots of brown and gold with an orange glow. There was a light smell of incense filling the air. The crowd was mellow as they quietly socialized, some were couples and some were in groups. Pros: Sheba has a warm environment and a very romantic setting. Cons: Honestly, I saw no flaws. more

What a great place to chill! 10/8/2008

I first went to Sheba Piano Lounge on a date. I was drawn in by the sweet sounds of jazz and the lovely decor. The owner was very nice and welcoming. Plus the service was great! The crowd is really cool and between their 30s-40s. I haven't experienced the cuisine yet but I definitely will go back to try it one day. Pros: Great music, chill atmosphere Cons: Not the best neighborhood more

Amazing Ethiopain Cuisine 3/9/2008

We live 4 hrs away from the city. But everytime we come to SF we HAVE to eat there!! The food is amazing and the service exceptional!! Pros: food, service, ambiance, parking Cons: ... more

Going out without feeling like you're going out 12/6/2007

The Sheba is easily my favorite establishment in San Francisco. The food is amazing, particularly the bass and the lega tibs, in my estimation, and the pomengrenate meatballs are to die for. I go there every chance I can, usually comfortably able to get a seat at the bar, though if one comes in a bit late, don't be surprised if the bar is full. Going to the Sheba is not like any other lounge I've been too. Being a regular definitely has perks, always being greeted warmly, asked what you're up to, how you've been. It isn't like going out so much as visiting a friend. A friend who happens to have excellent food and excellent drinks. The drink selection is quite good, and most cocktails one could desire are available, as well as a handsome wine selection, including amazing honey wine. The staff is helpful and polite and often quite willing to talk. Israel and Nette are lovely, always so friendly. The lounge area is particularly nice, around a fireplace. Great to sit with friends after a long day, relax, have a few drinks, and just soak in the feeling of the room. One never feels rushed or in a hurry to go, and, honestly, sometimes I just wish I could stay there all the time. There is no greater stress reliever in the city I have seen then to spend a few hours, or a whole night, in the Sheba. more

Great place no matter what your mood is... 10/30/2007

I have been coming to Sheba Lounge with my partner since it opened up and it has always been nothing but a wonderful experience. The owner Nette and her sister Israel are usually floating around and happy to share a hug and some laughs when you come in. Pros: Service, Staff, Live music, Ambience more

The right amount of Spice on any Night!!!!! 9/10/2007

When I entered the doors of Sheba Piano Lounge I was absolutely delighted and set for anticipation. First I heard the music. The pianist Ricardo Scales is truly talented and kind of speaks to you and massages your desire to chill with his jazz melodies. Next When I finally completely entered the lounge the ambiance was perfect. The colors and decor really sets a relaxing and soothing tone and the fragrance of the meals that people were eating just had my moth watering. By the time I was seated I was overly excited but hesitant because I was hoping not to be setting myself up for disappointment. I ordered chicken tibs and a vegetarian platter. The spices, variations of color, tenderness of the chicken were just?hmmmm. And I had a pomegranate martini and was converted. I never order martini?s and decided to change it up for once and was absolutely pleased. The owner came by and asked me if everything was going well and I was delighted to d yes.... she floated around the restaurant smiling and greeting which is always a plus for an establishment (and no... it wasn't imposing in any way either)

My only moment of the night I wasn?t in heaven would be when I was looking for parking ? but it?s San Francisco and by the time I was patient enough to take my time and circle the block once someone was pulling out. Its nice that it is in a consumer type of place because people were coming and going so I just had to be patient for about 4 minutes (smile) BASICALLY CHECK THIS SPOT OUT! Pros: Ambience, Food, Lounge Cons: If you want live mucis make sure to call and find out what nights they have it more

no music and NOT a dance club 9/8/2007

I went with my girlfriends for a fun night out. We wanted to hear some live music and go dancing. When we got to Sheba, there were people seated and we went up to the bar and asked the bartender about the live music. He said the piano player called in sick. We looked around and there were some large couches and tables with a few other people sitting there eating and drinking. The ambiance was cool but I have no idea where you would dance in there. We hung out for a bit - got some drinks and headed out. We were bummed about not being able to hear any music especially from a place that advertises as a live music and dancing venue!!! Pros: ambience Cons: music and dancing more

Bad food, poor service, terrible management 9/8/2007

I was drawn to the Sheba Lounge by its decor and interior, and thought it would be a great place for a date. However, don't judge a book by its cover. Minus the ""romantic"" setting everything was terrible. It took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive; COLD, when I complained the manager/owner became confrontational and was unwilling to accomodate my request of reheating the food!!!! In addition to this the nieghborhood leaves plenty to be desired, you can't trust the street parking considering all of the freshly broken glass on the sidewalks, and it is not somewhere you would want to be by yourself after 10 or 11pm due to the recent rash of violent crime in the area. Pros: ambience Cons: food, service, and parking more

Expensive, cold food and crabby waitstaff 4/3/2007

Some friends and I went to Sheba Lounge over the weekend. It took awhile to get our drinks and eventually the food came, but it was cold and the waitress could use a lesson in smiling. more

Fabulous ambiance! What a lovely place! 1/27/2007

We had such a great time on our date. The piano player Ricardo Scales was fabulous, playing sensual and popular songs alike. The food was delicious, if you like a little spice in the mix. The cocktails were tasty, $9 for a grey goose and cran. Overall, a great experience everyone should try. Pros: Ambience, Music, people more

Great place to chill, eat, talk and listen 12/2/2006

If I lived in SF I would be here all the time! The ambiance is fantastic. The piano player and singer were excellent. Food was very, very good and reasonably priced, Sheba's has achieved that great balance between creating good live music to listen to while you eat, but not so loud that you can't have a conversation. Lighting was perfect for a business dinner, but also would be very romantic if you are there with the right person. Next time I am in town with my wife, we are going here. Pros: Ambiance, music, service more

Best Ethiopian for Ambience 11/13/2006

So now we have a nicely located Ethiopian restaurant with great atmosphere in SF. The food is great, the location is at the Fillmore Center Apts, just south of Geary, so it's still nicely located near other restaurants, and not in the dodgy part. They have a comfy waiting area with a fireplace for a drink or if you have to wait for a table. The dining area isn't huge, but they had a group of 20 when we went, and it was comfortable. LIVE PIANO! That was actually nice. And they have a full bar with seating. I had been craving Ethiopian for some time, yes, craving Ethiopian food. I don't know why that sounded funny together. Anyway, I don't like ""dive"" style restaurants, so this was just the ticket. I will definitely only go back there whenever I want Ethiopian. Pros: Food, live music, interior lighting/decoration, fireplace, lounge area and a bar. Cons: Two small plasma televisions in the dining area, what is that about? I want those special little ethiopian style tables and chairs! more

Tri-continental cuisine: American, Ethiopian, Mediterranean 10/11/2006

Over the summer, I was visiting from Europe and a friend recommended Sheba's. The menu is very diversified! The dishes are essentially American favorites with a twist of flavors from the North African and the Mediterranean regions. My dining companion found the Tibs Wat from the Ethiopian menu particularly flavourful and tender. I had the Sea Bass which was very delicately prepared. The staff was very attentive and the ambience was remarkable. I'll definitely stop by again next time I visit the Bay Area. Pros: Great menu, romantic haven, live piano Cons: None I can think of more

Not great Ethiopian food :( 9/27/2006

I love the beautiful decor, drinks, and general feel of this place. I would definitely go back for drinks. I love the fireplace sitting area and the music makes this place perfect for a date. HOWEVER, if you love Ethiopian food, this definitely is not the place. I was really disappointed after all of the hype. The lentils were very undercooked and the tibs were not really tibs, more like wat ( I could go on and on). Anyway, great atmosphere place, not great Ethiopian food. Pros: atmosphere Cons: food more

My New Neighborhood Hangout! 9/12/2006

Had a great time at Sheba Lounge. This is my new favorite place to listen to live piano tunes! They have an area with leather couches and a fireplace that was so comfy, we had trouble leaving at the end of the night!! Get there early and the couches are yours for the night! We had amazing cocktails food next to the fireplace while listening to the pianist. It's great to have another entertainment destination in the Fillmore!! Sheba is on my favorites list - I'll be visiting again soon! Pros: Music, Food, Cocktails Cons: Street parking can be difficult, but paid parking is available in the Fillmore Center more

WHat a great find!!! 8/24/2006

This place is a gem in the Fillmore - one of the most beautifully decorated restaurants I've been to in San Francisco with cozy couches & sofas by the fireplace - perfect for after work cocktails. more

Great food & drinks and awesome piano lounge - even without the piano! 7/26/2006

This place rocks. It's beautiful inside, really wonderful atmosphere. The food is great, and VERY reasonably priced. People who work there are beautiful and fun and, though they may not always be the most masterful of their trade, they have great attitudes and make the experience highly enjoyable. Full bar, wide range of food offered. Here's the kicker: the owners are Ethiopian so a lot of the food has a VERY tasty and unique Ethiopian slant. There are at least 3 different menus I remember: very tasty lounge-type food (pomegranate drumettes, drunken shrimp, pita chips, etc.), regular dinner menu (pasta, burgers, all that good stufff made better) and Ethiopian dinner menu, which is a rare and wonderful experience to say the least. Yes! Do It! Check it out! Bring a date, you won't be sorry! Pros: fabulous setting more

Beautiful and Elegant Atmosphere! So cozy it feels like home... 7/9/2006

What a great addition to the historical Jazz District! When you enter this lounge you get an immediate feel of comfort... you are kindly greeted by beautiful ethnic women (including the owner!) and get a choice of dining at a table or in the lounge which includes thee most comfortable couches and not to mention in front of a beautiful fireplace. The warm colors and patterns in this place is unbelievable. Pros: Ambience, Food & Drinks, and Service Cons: Parking more

Elegant atmosphere, Affordable dining, Available for private functions 7/5/2006

***ATMOSPHERE, MUSIC, FOOD & DRINKS*** Pros: Atmosphere, Cuisine, Affordability more
