Royal Kitchen - Manapua madness 3/31/2006

If you like your manapua baked (golden brown bun) rather than steamed (big white bun), you need to visit Royal Kitchen in Chinatown. Whether you choose the traditional char siu, the more adventurous black sugar, or the tasty chicken-vegetable, you'll find a very generous filling-to-bun ratio. Parking is available in the small lot behind the store and is fully validated with your purchase. It's best to phone in your order ahead of time, as the counter gets fairly chaotic during their peak periods. more

I love the baked char siu manapuas at Royal Kitchen. Call in a phone order and head over to the cultural plaza. Fully validated parking is offered in the back of the shop. When you get there, you’ll be guaranteed to get hot fresh manapuas that will satisfy your hunger. They also serve other types of fillings such as chicken curry and lup cheong, but the traditional char siu is my favorite. The filling is pure char siu, with no fillers. This creates the natural sweetness in the manapua. Royal Kitchen also serves other Chinese dishes such as dim sum and noodles. These tend to be more on the average side and don’t sell as well. more

The best Manapua (Charsiu Bau's), pork in bun anywhere! 8/17/2005

Wow! Home of the baked Manapua/ Charsiu Bau/ pork in bun (for the mainland visitors). The Royal Kitchen as been in the Cultural Plaza since I was a kids. The Manapua's are the best bar none. I think they coat the bread in butter to make it taste even better! I try to go there at least once a month to get my "fix". See you there! The only drawback is the parking lot is small, and the clientele in the Cultural Plaza is a bit on the seedy side. more
