The UH Federal Credit Union offers great services especially loans. Their loan rate are very competitive and you can find loans here with better rates than other local banks. They have loan representatives that can help you with applying for a loan. They are quick and efficient and will let you know if you quality for a loan. Takasaki is a farily well-known appraisal company in Hawaii and recommended by many realtors. I am beginning to see why this is so. They are prompt and return calls. They are also friendly and upfront about what they can do. I enjoy working with them and hope to do more business with them in the future. Give them a shot, you'll be surprised and appreciate the customer service other appraisal companies don't provide.

First Hawaiian Bank is one of Hawaii's biggest and most prestigious banks. The tellers are very experienced and professional. It is the only bank in Hawaiian that keeps the "hawaiian" theme in there branches. It has a very homely and friendly environment. They also offer very competitive mortgage and home equity lines of credit. I'd recommend FBH for local islanders.

A couple years ago, the downtown Bishop Street branch of American Savings Bank was completely remodeled. This wasn't just your typical refresh -- the project transformed the branch into the bank's flagship location.
Plasma screens, high ceilings, and lots of wood make waiting in line a pleasant experience, which is a good thing as the bank is fairly busy almost all day. Recently, the bank added a second automatic teller machine, effectively doubling the number of ATMs available.
If you plan on visiting the branch, and you don’t work downtown, plan on catching the bus. Parking is very limited in town and can be fairly expensive.

American Savings Bank is a great bank that is attenative to their customers. I have been with them for many many years. There are branches convenient branches all over town as well as in Walmart and Foodland. The only thing that I have a complaint about is that their savings percentage is very very low. I just choose to do my checking with them and take advantage of HSBC and ING's 3-4% online savings account.

Similar to UHFCU, HawaiiiUSA offers basically the same services expect they’re open for weekend banking on Saturdays. They too also have free online banking and bill pay as well as free notary services. Their interest rates for savings accounts are as abysmal as for UHFCU. But their bank does have the added convenience of using Bank of Hawaii Bank machines with you debit card without being charged a fee.

AAA is very good for all your travel needs. They are good about giving you travelers' checks, and there is usually no line. When I needed help jump starting my car, they arrived in 25 minutes to help. If you are looking for auto insurance, though, AAA Hawaii doesn't do it directly, and you have to go through AIG Hawaii.

As a real estate agent and investor & find it very important in this market to have a reputable loan agent. A good reputation goes a long way when a seller is looking at multiple offers. Lori Fukumoto is a reliable, straight forward, no fast talk loan broker who can make buying a home a little easier for you. She has aided my clients and myself in obtaining financing, even when things got a little tricky. She is "on it" when it comes to deadlines & wont smooth talk a client with promises she cant keep. She may not always say exactly what you want to hear, but she will get you the best loan available for your situation. (Far too many times other loan officers lead a client to believe they can get the lowest rates or qualify for the highest amount, only to research later into the clients history & financial status & change their "song" when it is crunch time. ) Avoid surprises & closing delays and get someone reliable.
