Can We Talk for Real? 2/1/2011

Lots of junk and who knows how much it's really valued at. Well you won't find out here. I saw too many price tags with almost illegible writing so who's reading? Well I do for one. And some of us do have a little knowledge too. I found most of the tags insulting to behold. Can a person describe a french empire pre-1940's chair as mid-century or a mid-century dining set as antique and get away with it? Apparently so at Pacific Galleries. I think they need more help in getting it right so as not to offend their customers who really do know the difference. The place is also a bit grimy and seems worn and just plain too chaotic for a nice shopping experience. On top of that the stuff didn't seem that nice and was pretty dirty like the building. I'm glad at least I didn't have to deal with the staff like the other reviewerss. more

Tacky and Disorganized 1/19/2011

I found the staff here to be very arrogant and not helpful at all and the items are so mislabeled it's hard to know just what you are buying. On top of this it seems very messy and disorganized. The floor itself is quite large but with such a hodge podge of stuff it's hard to zero in on any single item that you might be looking for. Also I took exception to some of the tags which had a painting listed as a drawing, an obviously modern sofa listed as an antique (the style and pristine condition were definitely not Pre-1900) and other items that seemed to be poorly described or altogether inaccurate. And the prices seemed extraordinarily high for what the items were. I didn't buy anything. In this day and age with so many options and other antiques stores in the area I'll be looking elsewhere. more

Bad Experience Here 1/17/2011

I purchased two tables here which looked like antiques and were labeled as original antiques. The sales lady who helped me confirmed that they were indeed antiques. I'm not sure how she would really know unless she is an appraiser herself but she stated that the merchandise was labeled accurately so I purchased the tables. A couple of days later I decided that I only wanted to keep one and sell the other so I got an appraisal to estimate the selling price. To my horror and disappointment the appraiser told me these two "antique" tables were not antique at all but reproductions and worth far less than what I paid for them. He gave me a letter of appraisal after which I contacted Pacific Galleries immediately to let them now what happened. The receptionist said she was very sorry about what happened and asked me to fax in the appraisal letter after which someone would contact me within a couple of days. I faxed in the letter in right away and waited for a response which I never received. A week later I called again and the receptionist confirmed they received the appraisal letter and apologized again and said someone would be contacting me within the next couple of days. I then asked to speak to a manager or the owner and she said they were not available and that she would give them my message. It has been 3 weeks since I contacted the auction house and faxed in the appraisal letter and still no word. I am now seeking legal action and disputing the charge. I do not recommend this business at all as they do not stand behind their merchandise and mislabel their items. more

Shh... don't tell 4/3/2006

I never thought I'd be promoting an antique mall but this place is different. Or maybe I just have the wrong image of antique malls. Regardless, this place has a little for everyone. Of particular interest to me is the assortment of mid-century modern pieces that are actually reasonably priced. There's the occassional Eames collectible that's out of my league, but on average it seems like there are plenty of high quality, unique pieces at a reasonably price. It's definitely worth a look if you're in the market for some new furniture or on the lookout for something out of the ordinary. more
