Best

This is probably the best buffet in San Francisco. The food is fresh, hot and yummy. This is always a good place whenever you're very hungry or if you want to celebrate. They hold...

Worst

The food is ok here. Average for a buffet. They do have dimsum which is a plus. Pros: all you can eat Cons: parking

Great Food, Horrible Parking 6/21/2010

Moonstar is a good restaurant, but the PARKING lot is very unsafe. My car was broken into at 7pm-8pm. We only ate at Moonstar for one hour when we found out the car was broken into. Pros: Food is great, lots of selections, fresh fruits! Cons: PARKING IS NOT SAFE. more

Avoid it, it's not worth it 4/24/2008

We went there in the afternoon. The foods were not fresh. There are several kinds of foods, but they don't taste very good .. they taste like cheap chinatown food or something ... just my opinion. But then , i got very thirsty for hours after eating there, which according to some ppl is the sign that they use MSG. i dont know if they do use msg, but i just dont like getting very thirsty after eating there ... the same goes with the moonstar at dalycity, eventhough the foods there taste much much better.\r \r the only good thing at this moonstar is the ice cream =) but this is just my opinion. more

Everything I tried from the steam tables in this buffet was at room temperature. 12/27/2006

I was very excited when I saw the wide variety of appealing food available in this restaurant, but was disappointed and a bit troubled by the fact that NOTHING that was supposed to be warm (like, in the steam tables) was warm, and that the sashimi wasn't very fresh. \r \r Perhaps, however, the steam tables do work and were at the proper temperature, it's just that any heat generated by them was promptly dissipated in the frigid air inside the restaurant. more

Daly City Location 11/19/2006

I dont' know why citysearch doesn't have a separate category for thie restaurant's Daly City location so I'll post here.\r The parking is ok, and the times I've been there it is quite crowded and popular with Chinese, mainly for events like birthday parties. For the birthday girl/boy they roll out a drum and three of the waitresses will pound the drum and wish a happy birthday and then they'll snap a picture. So, service is good, I can say that after three visits of observation.\r There is a wide variety of food, mainly seafood and sushi. also cooked dishes. Tonight I had my fill of tuna sashimi, salmon sashimi, and something called white tuna sashimi and all were good. (very fresh today but one previous visit were not so) For the dinner they also give a coupon entitling you to one lobster of about one pound variety. I wish they also served the drawn butter with it but it was not to be found by me. The desserts are good and they have icecream , an amazing cottton candy and a quaint chocolate fountain with a copious supply of fresh strawberries for dipping. \r I've been there when there's a bunch of bar-b-que items like ribs, kebobs and bbq corn on the cob.\r This place is relatively clean, but there is a leopard skin pattern carpet on the floor and that's not easy to clean with possible food spills and kids eating, so don't expect a hospital-clean environment. Total cost with tip and tax included was under $30 per person for dinner. Pros: Good variety, fresh fish today, easy parking Cons: none to list more

Great Selections! Daly City Location 11/5/2006

For you that don't know, Moonstar has opened a second location in Daly City. The selections and the quality of the food is much much better. The choices are endless. There's even a chocolate fountain, so that you can dip fresh strawberries. Yummy! I much prefer this location to the Market Street location. If you go there for a Birthday, they take a picture of your group and then give it to you framed. Pros: Great Selection of Food Cons: Long Wait on Weekends more

Asian Parties: Red Eggs Parties 8/23/2006

The times I went there were always during the day and it was for a red egg party, and the place was always packed with about four different parties going on. The food was quality good, the fish was fresh and not ""fishy"", the food servers always wore plastic gloves, the dim sum was fresh. The place has alot of variety and it's all good. The bathrooms were clean and stocked. MY MAJOR COMPLAINT IS THE PARKING LOT: NOT SAFE DURING THE DAY OR NIGHT. MY FRIEND GOT HER CAR BROKEN INTO DURING A SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MOONSTAR PARKING LOT. THE PARKING LOT HAS BARBED FENCING ALL ROUND EXCEPT FOR THE MARKET STREET SIDE OF THE LOT AND THE ENTRANCE/EXIT SIDE, THERE IS ONE LOT ATTENDENT THAT STAYS IN THE EXIT BOOTH. \r \r I have attended the Daly City, Moonstart Restaurant. I have eaten there four times. The building is brand new, the furniture is brand new and very modern. The food and variety is so-so, fair to average. The Market Street Restaurant has more variety of food and is overall better quality in my opinion.\r \r EAT AT THE MARKET STREET AND TAKE YOUR CHANCES OF HAVING YOUR CAR BROKEN INTO. THE DALY CITY RESTAURANT HAS MORE PARKING, MODERN LOOKING RESTAURANT AND FURNITURE BUT THE FOOD OVERALL IS LACKING. Pros: Large variety of foods, dim sum, sushi Cons: Market Street / Restaurant Parking Lot is NOT SAFE PERIOD NUFF SAID more

cheap eats, and choices of food 7/20/2006

i went there for lunch on friday.\r there were lots of choices that i liked, like japanese, chinese, and western style food.\r \r i recommened the crab on ice, and the tofu flake.\r but sugar sauce for the tofu was a little over.\r the crab was a little salty and yummy!\r \r there were not that crowed on friday noon.\r the ice cream bar will closed at 2 pm, so plan ur time on it. Pros: great price and great food Cons: hard to find parking in rush hour more

would not wish it on my enemy 6/27/2006

Going there was the biggest mistake. We were there for launch. The restaurant was in a very poor shape. Not very clean. The service, what service.? The only time they knew we were there is when we were leaving.!! The food, I have no idea what kind of food they eat there. Sushi was old and it was nothing but rice. This restaurant is by far the worst I have ever been in any state.\r \r I would only recommend this restaurant to someone I dislike. Take it from there. \r Pros: NOTHING...!!! I mean it Cons: Location, food, service more

User review by food911 9/18/2005

The price was about $22 on a weekend night. Lots of variety - sushi, soups, dim sum, desserts, seafood... you get your money's worth if you choose your food right. The crab legs were good but REALLY salty. The steamed shrimp was better. Oyster were pre-shucked (hit or miss on immediate freshness). Sushi- also pre-made. They give you a coupon to redeem a lobster- but don't get too excited - it's a tiny 1/2 lobster tail smothered in cheese sauce- blah, not my preference. Overall, just ok. Service was very attentive though! Out of everything they had to offer, I probably enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and chocolate covered strawberries the most. Pros: , price, service Cons: saltiness, lobster more

Not Good 5/10/2004

I had a birthday prty here on a recommedation. First I checked out their website and made a reservation. When I arrived the price was higher than they advertise on the website and the manager refused to honor the advertised price. The food was NOT GOOD. Tasted old and the sushi was very low quality. The atmosphere is the pits. They are tring to copy the famous Todai Restaurant (which has a location in Daly City) and not doing a very good job. Next time I'm definately going to Todai! Cons: , Service, Food more

Great First Experience 3/17/2004

My first time there for dinner was a wonder experience. So, I'm not a fan of buffets, but as long as I have a huge selection to choose from, I'm OK with it. The food was great, but beware of the crab and shrimp that were too salty for my taste. 'The waiters and waitresses were so friendly and attentive; moreso than any restaurant I've been to. Great place for parties and there's live music. Pros: Service, Selection of food, clean Cons: , Parking more

ok buffet 9/25/2003

I ate at the Moonstar Buffet before a show at the Orpheum Theater (right across the street). I found most of the food to be pretty good, and the price was reasonable for what was on offer. I did, however, find a few items to be just beyond nasty tasting (and I love Asian food!)---for instance, the egg rolls tasted like they had been out for about 3 days....like they were bad. The seafood-crab legs in particular tasted OK, just excessively salty. Shrimp was along the same line. The sushi was better than average (and a real bargain, considering!), and the chix chow mein, green beans were terrific! Dessert was good too. Be selective...and stick to the buffet so that if you don't like what is on the plate....you can always get something else! Pros: reasonable prices, excellent sushi, convenient location Cons: awful egg rolls more

great food & good deal 1/18/2003

The food was good, a lot of variety. Lobster and cheese is my favorite. more

Take your time and enjoy 11/21/2002

This is mecca for the buffet fan. This is not gourmet quality food. But it's good Asian food and it's plentiful. The Dim Sum is excellent. If you like oysters, shrimp and /or crab legs you'll be in Heaven here. They also have the best dessert area (real ice cream, not the sludge that comes out of ""soft ice cream"" dispensers at other buffets) of any buffet I've been to. P.S. Go to their website and download a coupon for a free beer or wine. Pros: Selection, Fresh Seafood, Desserts more

Good buffet 10/2/2002

I really enjoy this buffet restaurant. The selection of foods is extra large and varied. They even have Dim Sum, sushi and tempura -- things one would not expect on a buffet table. There are, of course many other items. Be sure to look at all the tables and plan your feast. Otherwise you may miss some very nice things. Pros: Excellent selection, Good prices, Good quality Cons: Can get quite crowded more

A+ buffet restaurant 10/1/2002

this place is OK 9/24/2002

The food is ok here. Average for a buffet. They do have dimsum which is a plus. Pros: all you can eat Cons: parking more

appetite pleaser 9/10/2002

Moonstar is the epitome of the word ""buffet"". Expansive space, incredible variety of wings, sushi, seafood. This restaurant defines the ""all you can eat"" idea, which we all crave from time to time. more
