The Tea is Nice at Market Spice 5/9/2006

I admit that I sometimes come in just for their free samples of Market Spice tea, which is the primary selling point of the whole place. The cinnamon and cloves are my favorite part, but it's far too strong for many people, but definitely not for me. I also like seeing huge jars of spices and they have lots of them. But the place is a bit crowded, and I see it mostly as a place for tourists to buy tea and teapots, because many natural foods stores sell loose spices and teas as well. more

Nicely spicy 5/9/2006

Walk into market spice and your sense of smell instantly kicks into overdrive - in a good way. They have an enormous collection of bulk spices and loose leaf teas, as well as the famous "market spice" tea that comes in a box. I come here for sea salt and kosher salt and I am going to start buying my spices in bulk to save a lot of cash! (Just keep your spice bottles and fill them with the goodies you buy here.) more

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice 3/17/2006

This little spice shop has all the spices you can think of at a great price. They have jars and jars of spices and teas and you buy what you want by the weight. An enormous cost savings for otherwise expensive spices and teas. Just have your own containers at home and you can take advantage of this store. They have the largest assortment of teas I've ever seen, and they also have spice mixes for sale. I love to stock up on their colored sugars for cake and cookie decorating. Only thing is that I wish they would carry more cookie decorating sprinkles. more

Tea for days 9/22/2005

This quaint shop is tucked away in the Market near the fish throwers. They have a great tea assortment as well as original tea accessories. I am a big fan of going in there just to have a look (and smell) around. If you know anyone who loves their tea, this is the place for them. more

Dragon Phoenix green tea and great spices in bulk, time to refresh your spice cabinet for minimal cost! 8/29/2005

In the Pike Place Market, just to the south of the fish throwers in the corner, is Market Spice. Here, you can find most any spice you'll ever need, sold by weight. Few of us can ever use the huge quantities of spices that are given when you buy by the bottle in the grocery store, so purchasing by weight, in small quantities, will ensure that you can actually use the spice within it's peak of quality, 6 months from date of purchase. What?! Most of your spices are years old, or left over from that experiment in making indian food when you bought $40 worth of spices for one dish? Bummer. If you'd shopped at Market Spice, you'd only have needed to buy the amount you need, and not had leftovers with no scent and worse, no way to be used. Once you've bought all of your new spices, fresh and heady and inspiring you to cook, buy some Dragon Phoenix green tea. This is hand rolled, and pricey, but you only use 2 balls per mug, and it's heavenly, jasmine scented and very good for you! more

Cooking fans will enjoy the mecca of spices 8/20/2005

Walk into Market Spice and you're instantly inundated with scents and fragrances from around the world. You can find pretty much any spice, seasoning, tea, or coffee you're looking for. The store is a beautiful place to wander, and they also offer tea pots to go with their lovely bulk teas. Of course, you'll also get to wander Pike Place Market as well. Be advised, during the summer months, parking around the market is very difficult. more

unique spices at pike place market 7/28/2005

My partner and I stumbled across Market Spice while we were exploring downtown Seattle. What a great shop! They have excellent spice blends, especially for seafood and southwestern style foods. I especially liked their different types of salt. We bought some Hawaiian sea salt, which has a beautiful red color and a complex flavor that lingers pleasantly on the palate. The only downside was that they were out of the cocoa blend (which smelled great in the sample jar!). I'll have to go back and see if they have it in stock soon and pick up some other spice blends and types of salt! more
