Arrogant Service 8/18/2010

Good food but nothing spectacular. We sat at the bar and our server was the bartender who was either having a bad day or is lacking in customer service skills. No smile, no welcome and serving us appeared to be a chore for him. We will not return as there are too many restaurants in this town that are welcoming and pleased to have us as their customers so do not need a server with an attitude! more

Great atmosphere, average food. 2/28/2009

We ate at Lincoln on Friday night. The ambience is wonderful, very warm and pretty with subtle lighting. The seats comfortable and the acoustics are good, we were able to carry on a conversation without screaming to be heard. Our waitress was nice but uninspired, she may have simply been tired that night. The food was good. We had the special appetizer of squab. It was awesome. I had the hanger steak which was good but nothing special. The onion rings were yummy and crunchy, loved them. My boyfriend had the lamb which was good, but again nothing spectacular It was served with polenta which I like it but there wasn't anything to dress it up, just a pile of polenta. I suppose I would try it again just to see if maybe the specials are more interesting. They offered 2 special the night we were there and maybe those might have more pizzazz. The food was good just uninteresting. Their sauces are definitely their strong suit. Since it is my neighborhood and I want it to be successful, I will try again. The cocktails were delightful. more

Best Steak in Portland 2/19/2009

5 Stars because it is by far one of my favorite places to eat in Portland!! Pros: Great for groups and perfect for a dinner date! Cons: A little challenging for parking sometimes. more

Great Food. Great Service. Great Value 2/17/2009

We had dinner here on Saturday (V-Day) and had a great evening. The service was great, the food was delicious and the restaurant is beautiful. It was a great evening. I don't understand why anyone would question the value. For my money, it was a great value! We will certainly be back. Pros: Food, Service, atmosphere more

Just what North Portland needed! 2/11/2009

My best friend and I have ""date"" night every Friday and we are constantly on the lookout for great food and drinks, but without the Stuffiness that can sometimes come with a good restaurant. This was definitely a great choice. The place was full so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the wine selection and matched us perfectly with what we wanted. The food was amazing, (especially the hanger steak they were serving that night). All of the staff was very friendly and even the owners themselves made it a point to say hi and make us feel welcome. I will be back, and I will spread the word! more

A new Portland favorite 1/29/2009

Wow! I got taken there last night on business (my choice of restaurant, but on someone else's expense acct!), and it was fantastic. The decor was understated but welcoming (love the large charcoal drawing of a hen on one wall!), and the wait staff was incredibly friendly and down to earth. Wines by the glass were pricey--$11 for a pinot gris--but delightful tasting. My dinner companion ordered the flatbread to start with which I didn't think sounded too spectacular. Boy, was I wrong! It was enough for a family, and tasty beyond belief! Freshly cooked bread that was chewy yet slightly crisp on the outside. Served with 3 massive slices of basically pork pate. (Trust me: tasty!) Served with a spicy mustard and the most darling cornichons. Pros: Innovative, incredibly tasty food. Refined, but not snobby ambience. Friendly wait staff. Cons: Pricey glasses of wine. more

Honest Abe would be a fan 1/20/2009

One word, seven letters...A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. You'll see this theme in the other reviews as well, but truly our new favorite place. Not only was this a historic and exciting day (Obama's inauguration) but it was also my wife's birthday. I was able to call earlier today for reservations (much appreciated in Portland where you have to wait most places) and got us in for 7pm. We arrived a half hour early to enjoy cocktails at the bar which were tasty and STRONG...a Stoli martini for the Mrs. and a Don Draper for me (bourbon, muddled orange, brown sugar, bitters on the rocks). The restaurant was very busy for a Tuesday night and yet we were seated at a great windowside table. While tempting, we passed on the appetizers and started with the argula w/ bacon grilled pear and orange/fennel salads...so fresh, so good, so out of the ordinary. For our entrees I went with the hanger steak w/ onion rings and my wife had the grilled leg of lamb. Both received rave reviews in previous feedback and we concur. Absolutely delicious! While not sure how, we both left room for dessert. We usually pass or split a dessert but considering the occasion we went the whole 9 yards...chocolate slump cake and lemon/anise shortcake (w/ a bday candle!);both out of this world with just the right balance of flavors. I like to judge a place by the quality of their coffee and needless to say I was not disappointed with my after dinner cup(s) either...full bodied and fresh. Our server Jason was very friendly and informative...gave his opinion when asked and was very attentive...not too little not too much. The owners (same names as ours, no kidding!) David (who seated us and served us) and Jen (the executive chef) both came out to chat with us after dinner. I can't think of many places where the owners or chef care enough or take the time to visit with their customers. We were torn about reviewing this place as we don't want it to become too popular, but Lincoln more than deserves the accolades...5+ stars! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

A New Favorite 1/19/2009

A friend and I had a late dinner at Lincoln this past Saturday night (we got there around 8:30pm). Of course we waited before we were seated, but we pretty much expected to. The wait was only about 15-20 minutes, and we were able to sit in a waiting area where they served us drinks. We chose to sit at the bar and received excellent service from the bartender. She was such a sweetheart. Dinner was delicious- the chicken was super juicy and my friend said it was the best she'd ever tasted (and she doesn't even really like chicken.) I had the hangar steak with onion rings- tasty. Oh and we both started out with the arugula salad with bacon wrapped pears. Yum. Overall ambiance was great and I will definitely go back. more

Enjoyable evening 1/8/2009

I enjoyed the food at this restaurant. i also enjoyed the service. We simply walked in and asked for a table. It took some time to get one, but the staff took care of us while we waited, including a free appetizer. The food was worth the wait. The ambiance is also very nice. Overall, it was a very good meal and a very nice place to eat. Pros: Great food, attentive service Cons: Long wait if you do not have reservations. more

Good but overrated 1/2/2009

Lincoln is one of the many new restaurants that have popped up in our 'hood in the past year. We decided to give them a try for New Year's Eve's 5 course dinner. We started out with a yummy complimentary cocktail. I also had another signature cocktail with sage gin and lime. Unexpected and tasty. Pros: Parking, ambience, service Cons: Dessert, food not as good as it should be for the hype more

Don't waste your money 12/8/2008

Lincoln had gotten a couple of good write-ups--simple preparations done well. It sounded good to us, like a new version of Castagna. We got there and couldn't figure out what most of the things on the menu were. I went to Le Cordon Bleu, I read Gourmet and Bon Appetit, I plan vacations based on food. Neither I nor my usual dining companions, who are as in to food as I am, and one of whom speaks 4 languages, knew what many of the items listed on the menu were. This begs the question, who was it written for? more

Best Portland restaurant in six and a half years of searching! 11/29/2008

OUTSTANDING! Pros: Great staff, great drinks, great food! Cons: None- more

New Favorite. 11/5/2008

I had to redeem myself after writing a bad review about another place. My Karma demanded it. This is my new favorite restaraunt. We went there on Halloween and had the most amazing dinner. The server was great, the food perfection. I know the menu changes for the seasons, and this was the second time we had eaten there. The carpaccio was out of this world, and the steak we had on Halloween was one of the best I have ever tried. The consistency is remarkable for a new restaraunt. I highly recommend this place.Definetly for a special occasion as well, but it did't feel stuffy at all. Pros: amazing food and great cocktails. Cons: none really more
