This is one of my Portland favorites. The food is excellent and the drinks are great too. The service has always been exceptional as well. If you're willing to spend a little bit more than the average on dinner, then this place will not disappoint.
Pros: Great savory Creole inspired food
Cons: A little out of the way

I have eaten at Higgins numerous times (lunch and dinner) and believe it is one of the best restaurants in Portland. They always seem to use the freshest ingredients and come up with innovative, tasty food. The dining atmosphere is very nice and the servers friendly and professional.
Pros: great food & dining experience

This is by far one of my favorite Portland restaurants. Let's start with the drinks..the Rhett Butler and the Porch Swing Lemonade are incredible...not too sweet with just enough flavor...sometimes I do ask for less sweetness in the Rhett Butler though. Note: The porch swing lemonade has chunks of fresh sage in it, so stay away if you dont like sage..I happen to LOVE it in this drink.
Now on to the food...the fried chicken is some of the best in town and the house made hot sauce on the tables is the best with it. They always have delicious local organics to choose from if you want a salad, soup, etc. The brisket is delicious and the pecan crusted trout is incredible.
It is great for groups but you have to get there like 30-40 mins early and put your name in if you have a group of say 6-10. We went last weekend with a group of 8 and only had to wait for an hour (put my name in at 7pm).
Also, there are plenty of vegetarian options for those interested.
Screen Door is hands down my "go to" consistently delicious retaurant in Portland.
Pros: great drinks, great food, jovial atmosphere
Cons: dont take reservations

I just went in to 23Hoyt and realized that Portland could be missing out on the best food in town. I mean, we were there for an early dinner, and it was pretty busy, but there should be a line out the door! I'm always amazed. High quality/ amazing favor. Why doesn't everyone know this?
And it definitely helps that the service is always great!
Pros: best scallops ever

Berbatis has always been one of my favorite downtown bars. They have a nice restaurant, but I have never had the opportunity to dine there. All of my experience has been enjoying the after hours entertainment. The variety of live music and always a nice crowd has kept me coming back for more. The venue is not too big or small, with room to dance or sit and listen.
Nicely decorated, clean, with excellent security gives the downtown bar scene a great rating!

Gluten-free at its very best! We opted for the milk-braised pork and pan-seared scallops... both of which melted in our mouths... Wow!! With just enough room to share a desert, we choose the flourless chocolate cake... can you believe it, flourless?!? The wine was exceptional and paired per Chef's recommendation. Our server was very attentive, answered all of questions and was a joy to have waited on us. We will back very soon for the Chef's Taster, can't wait! Thanks Grolla!!
Also, a friend of mine just turned me on to Restaurant's website; they sell certificates for Grolla, along with a lot of other good restaurants. I checked it out and for $10 you can purchase a $25 gift certificate!!
Pros: Ambience. Food/Wine. Service
Cons: None

I checked out the recommendations before visiting this establishment. From what I read I was prepared to have to wait a long time and the service to be lukewarm at best. However, Bartini staff was just the opposite. Four things that impressed me:
1. Their prices were amazing for happy hour.
2.They set up the outside seating for me even though they weren’t planning on setting all the tables and chairs up for the evening.
3.They let me take the table for an astonishing 3 hours with my friend even though our bill at the end was very small.
4.They brought us extra bread with our meal when we were out.
Pros: Gracious and pleasant staff.
Cons: 0

They bar is fantastic. I drive from SE to get there for drinks on a monthly basis. It always have fast, friendly service, the drinks have character and are slightly artsy; there is a martini for every one and they have one for you. So give them a shot. The drinks are hot!
Pros: Fun social bar
Cons: pricey

Excellent food. I always get the Eggs Benedict or the brioche french toast. The french toast is the best I have ever had. I loved the marscarpone, candied nuts, and bananas. The maple syrup was really good, not too sweet. In the summer, sitting outside on the patio with flowers all around you is wonderful. I have been here numerous times on the weekend, and have yet to experience a wait. Guess the parking discourages people venturing downtown on the weekend. Let me tell you, it is worth it.
Pros: Great food/coffee, outside patio, service, no long waits
Cons: Downtown parking
