Editorial review from Citysearch 12/3/2012

I was in the store for what seemed like an eternity. Yes, I did the whole sign in thing. What I don't understand is why they make people sign in to wait when 3 salespeople are standing around talking amongst themselves. I can hear their catty gossip about other employees and customers. I guess enough time had passed for it to become my turn. There were several shoes I wanted to try on. I was to.d by the salesman, ""you need to narrow it down, I'm not wasting my time bringing that many shoes out"". I narrowed it down to three and he still acted as if I was was imposing. He continued to mumble about me probably not buying three pairs. I could not believe someone in a service industry would be so rude. While he was getting my shoes, I picked up my purse to leave and 2 women stood there and giggled. more

No! Just no! Don't go! They are overpriced and lack any service! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/3/2012

No thanks! Won't be giving these folks my money. In this day and age people have many choices. Service is going to make the difference. Karavel does not have a clue about service. It's a shame this family business is being run into the ground. Good luck and good bye! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/3/2012

Antiquated business model! Not sustainable! Based on their lack of customer service I don't understand how they stay in business. If you don't look like you have money, you get ignored. The salespeople are rude and make it clear they are on commission. Worst yet is the ""so called owner, Michael"", what a waste. Your only as good as your people...your people stink! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 12/3/2012

I had an issue with an employee's rudeness, to which I was told to talk to a Michael , who is supposed to be the manager, or owner of the company. He was completely dismissive of me and told me he was not interested in what I had to say and that I could take my business elsewhere if I were unhappy. Apparently they have so much business that they can be rude to potential customer s and send them away to shop elsewhere! I will never EVER shop there again! more

Seriously disappointed 4/14/2012

I was very excited at the prospect of ginally getting some shoes that fit right. No such luck. The salesman measured my foot and immediately began trying to get rid of me, by repeatedly telling me "We're not going to be able to help you." He finally agreed to show me some shoes when I pretty much demanded it, but it's really hard to be enthusiastic when it's obvious that all they care about is getting rid of you. I went directly from there to InStep and they sold me two pairs! Pros: null Cons: null more

Good at bygone business practices 11/30/2011

We can relate to all the prior reviews, both the good and the bad: they are all correct. These guys are all very competent at fitting shoes, and they have enough business that they can make you sign in, sit and wait, and go as slow as they want with customers being serviced while you watch. We recently drove 60 miles to shop but got caught in an interstate accident traffic jam and were going to arrive right at closing time. Thus we called ahead to see if they would let us in if we were a few minutes late. No sir, not indeed, they close at 6:00 PM SHARP, could we drive back down tomorrow? Well, who can blame them if they can do it and still make all the money they want? So here's what we learned. We went online and spent $230 including all costs for the two pair of shoes we would have paid $345 including all costs at Karavel. We will likely shop there again, but only when we can't find what we want online. Pros: null Cons: null more

Escorted Out of the Store - Seriously 4/28/2011

I am experiencing some issues with my foot, probably plantar fasciitis, and my doctor recommended Karavel. After going through a misdiagnosis of my dog and several hundred dollars, I thought it best to get ONE pair of shoes at that time. Although dress shoes for work sounded nice, I thought I should get some sneakers so I could benefit by wearing them to work as well as walking my dog. My plans were to go back in a few weeks and also get some dress shoes. more

"Golden Shoehorn" Award goes to a top salesperson! 8/23/2010

You should give your "Golden Shoe Horn of the Month" award to Heather Johnson. She has waited on me twice: once, April 2009 and then this past weekend. She remembered the particulars of my bad foot problems. Together we discovered that older hikng shoes I had bought years ago elsewhere were now too small, causing great pain. She has outfitted me in a wonderful hiking shoe with new inserts, as well as GREAT Thorlo socks. Heather's attention to every detail of the customer's needs makes this store a place where I WANT to shop. more

Service 5/11/2010

I visited the store this past weekend (Mothers Day) to buy a pair of shoes for my mom. I was told to sign in and to feel free to look around. The store was very busy, so I had to wait for about 10 minutes, but once I was waited on, I was very pleased with my sales person (KJ) and the service she offered. She knows her stuff and I will go there again & again. Pros: super knowledgeable staff Cons: Very busy more

Dissapointed with customer service 4/28/2010

I was excited to visit the store and intended on purchasing a pair of shoes until I became dissapointed with the customer service. I was not greeted/acknowledged when I entered the store or as I walked around with a particular shoe in hand needing assistance. It was only after walking up to the counter to ask for help (after 10 minutes) I was told that I needed to "sign in" and wait my turn. I signed in and someone told me they would be right with me. I thought great, no problem. I waited and watched as several sales people chatted amongst themselves for quite some time while I was still ignored. After being frustrated about not being acknowledged, not being informed about the sign in sheet and ignored after signing in, I decided to walk out. Still , no one spoke to me. I was there about 30 minutes. What a waste of my time. I will not go there again. To better serve their customers they need to make the "sign in" procedure more obvious. Cons: bad service more

Great fit for every size foot 2/14/2010

Recommend MTB's to reduce foot fatigue and to improve posture and muscle tone. Pros: Best selection of womens and mens shoes Cons: So much to choose from more

Great shoes 1/11/2010

I have wide feet and a high instep as well. I am on my feet constantly at work, so Karavel has great shoes for me more

Saved My Life 12/23/2009

Several years ago, I thought I was going to be in a wheel chair soon, based on the difficulty I had walking and the level of pain I was in. My doctor diagnosed bone spurs. She wrote a simple diagnosis on a prescription pad & sent me to see Susan at Karavel. Susan took a brief look, measured my feet, and came back with a pair of shoes that immediately took care of every symptom. She explained what was causing the pain, and the various features of the shoe that would help relieve the pain. It may not be rocket science, but it felt like a miracle to me. I've been buying my shoes there ever since and I've never been disappointed. Not once! Pros: Knowledgable Sales People Cons: None more

Great place to shop 8/17/2009

I got a pair of tennis shoes from Karavel August, 2008 for my son because he walks on the sides of his feet alot and I needed a good pair of orthopedic shoes. The shoes were great, the customer service was fantastic and the shoes I bought are still good with no holes in them or nothing. For the price, they are worth it because I was going thru a pair of shoes every other month for my son who walks on the sides of his feet - these shoes were from Wal-mart, Payless, Target, all the cheap stores. Yes it is very pricey but well worth it in the long run. Pros: Best value and shoes Cons: Pricey but good more

worse website ever 7/31/2009

never saw such a worthless website....get somebody to run the site....in business 70 years and can't even see a pair of shoes on the site. Sheesh Pros: can't see any products here Cons: see above more

Aric was great salesperson 7/20/2009

I went in and Aric was very knowledgable about my feet and how to fit me on shoes and orthotics more

Great store, but be prepared for the price 5/10/2009

Slowly but surely, Karavel has become the only place I will shop for shoes. There are cheaper shoe stores, but experience has proven to me that the brands they carry at Karavel last the longest and fit the best, meaning cheaper in the end. Pros: Wonderful selection of great fitting, high-quality brands Cons: Cost more
