Mediocre Food - Poor Service 6/19/2006

My family and I went to Julia's on a Saturday morning at about 11 AM. The place was packed. We signed in on the sheet and sat down to wait. The hostess came by and called in the people who were ahead of us. After waiting for about 25 minutes and seeing the crowd thin, we knew we were next. Then a group of 4 came in, took one look at the list, and walked right in to the restaurant and sat down. The hostess went over and said hello and brought them water. Another 10 minutes later, we were called. There are possible explanations for this (beyond what it looks like), so I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. Then we were seated. We knew what we wanted and were hoping to just put in our order with the hostess. She wouldn't take our order. Another 10 minutes later, our server shows up and takes our order - at which point, I had to ask for refills on water. It then takes our food close to 25 minutes to arrive. And my water was empty again. The food was ok. It certainly wasn't bad. But the only thing that made the food memorable was the terrible service that surrounded it. I tried the eggs benedict, the buckwheat pancakes, and the belgian waffle. My family and I all had the same experience - bland food. The fastest service we got was when we asked for our bill. She was like a ninja. I asked for the bill and 30 seconds later, she appears out of nowhere. As soon as she dropped of the bill, she was motioning to the hostess that our table was going to be available. I won't be going back to Julia's. more

Great brunch 10/4/2005

I visited the Wallingford location on a sunny day after a few laps around Greenlake. The service was a bit slow (it may have been that I was really hungry), but the food was fantastic (also probably affected by the fact that I was hungry). The pancakes were awesome, and the omelets also were very good. Julia's has a small outdoor seating area that is great on sunny days. The staff is what you'd expect from a place called Julia's, warm and friendly. Definitely a repeat destination. more

Healthy, Comfort Food 8/19/2005

As a vegetarian, I really appreciate a restaurant that offers more than one type of veggie burger. The usually GardenBurger or Boca burger gets really old and Julia's offers some interesting alternatives. I also loved the grilled crab sandwich. The food is very fresh and the staff is friendly. I also hear that breakfast is great, although I haven't made it there yet. more

Way Overrated 8/18/2005

I never have understood why this place is popular. People rave about it and it always seems to be busy. At their Broadway location our order was screwed up royally and the nasty little waiter had the nerve to blame it on us! The manage said he would comp it and then changed his mind. Apparently, at Julia's, the customer is never right. Additionally, the food was adequate. Clearly, it had been sitting under the lights for awhile before it came. Food was the same at the Wallingford location. Ain't gonna happen again. more
