Houston zoo 10/26/2011

We love the zoo, specially in the fall. This is the 3rd year in a row that we have been to the Boo at the Zoo, an event where the kids get to come in their customs and go "trunk" or treating... there is a pumpking patch, as well as several other "Themed" activities... The zoo is always a nice place to visit, and we actually bought a season pass on our last visit. The best tip I can give you is to avoid the summer months as the animals are not very active, I'm sure they don't like the heat anymore than we do ;) more

Houston zoo 4/15/2006

I enjoy taking the kids to the zoo, especially on a weekday when it is not too crowded. Even in the heat, you can cool off in some of the buildings. Last summer they put in a "splash pad" in the children's section. Riding the large and beautiful carousel is always a highlight of the trip. The zoo is now under private ownership. This has increased the admission and membership fees, but there seem to be alot of improvements. My only concern is explain the animals that have died to my kids... a baby elephant, a baby giraffe, a male lion, and a rhino. more

Not my favorite zoo 4/15/2006

Houston Zoo is not my favorite urban zoo ever. I found it too small and the animals seemed to be in some very cramped quarters. It was sort of depressing. That said, they have been working on an extensive renovation for quite some time, so it looks better every time you go there. They've put in an absolutely beautiful carosel you'll want to check out. more

Very nice now! 4/5/2006

We went to this zoo a few years ago and never went back because it was just a bunch of chainlink fence. I felt so sorry for all the animals. We decided to go back this past summer since we moved here and were very pleasantly surprised. They have done a ton of remodeling and this is a very nice zoo now! more

fun and cheap 11/29/2005

I love this zoo. It is fun to wander along the paths and get lost in the day. I love the sea lion exhibit...they are too much fun! They also have a good area just for childeren. The snake exhibit is also pretty large. The prices are right and it is a great place to go on a pretty day. Don't forget to ride the train! more

Fun for kids and teens 11/17/2005

Although I didn't enjoy the zoo because it was really hot, my cousins (kids) were delighted. They loved seeing the monkeys and the other animals. Be sure to bring plenty snacks and cold water. I thought that one thing they could improve on was making it more exciting. Just looking at animals isn't enough for me. Be sure to take plenty of pictures because it's something a person has to do, visit the zoo. I think going during the cooler weather would be better also. more

A decent zoo 10/23/2005

I expected the Houston zoo to be better than it actually was. They had a fairly large selection of animals, but the overall atmosphere of the zoo was lacking. It seemed somewhat dull compared to other zoo's I have been to. However, this would still be a fun place to take your kids or take a class on a field trip. They have gift shops and tables outside where you can eat, etc. . more

NOW IS A GOOD IME TO GO 10/20/2005

THE HOUSTON ZOO IS WONDERFULL THIS TIME OF YEAR. THE ANIMALS ARE OUT, THE MOSQUITOS ARE HIDING, AND THE KIDS HAVE LOTS OF BREAKS. GO TO THE ADORABLE PETTING ZOO, OR RIDE THE DARLING TRAIN. THEY HAVE AT LEAST 2 OF EVERYTHING AND PRETTY UP CLOSE. WE LOVE THE HOUSTON ZOO LOCATED IN THE MEDICAL DISTRICT. more

Great Place For Kids! 9/19/2005

Even though it was exquisitely hot and a lot of the animals were hiding from the heat, we thoroughly enjoyed the zoo. It is in the Medical Center area and was fairly easy to find. The exhibits were all nice and they had a number of different animals. The signs were appropriate and helpful with information for many different levels. The kids area is awesome and when it cools down some, I plan to take the kids straight to this area first. They have a fountain area where the kids can splash around. They also have a playground, a petting zoo, and a number of other items for kids to play on. They also have a carousel and an air conditioned discoverey center! more

Houston Zoo 9/18/2005

I first went to the zoo in the first grade field trip and love it. Went a few times since. But the last time I went was the 4th of July. I didn't realize that on holidays you get in free. Everything had changed for the better. It was so pretty. The animals were amazing. They even have a petting zoo for the little ones. more

Take the kiddos! 8/25/2005

If you haven't been to the Houston Zoo in awhile nows the time to go! We took a break from going due to the lack of animals available for the kids to see. It was always a downer, no animals to view, they were easily bored! We have since gave it another try and this experience was fabulous. The kids had a great time! They have added a few more exhibits and really cleaned the place up. My kids really enjoyed the bald eagle presentation.Make it a point to see that! Recommend that you wear tennis shoes as this zoo is really spread out. Parking can be a challenge once the main lot fills up, so go early AM when all the animals are up feeding, thats a plus. Prices are a lot higher than I recalled, but the improvements make it worth it. more

Houston Zoo 8/21/2005

Everybody loves the zoo! The Houston Zoo has always been a great destination in Houston but in recent years the zoo has really transformed. The zoo was once the responsibility of the City of Houston but has been privatized and is a model for the potential success of a reborn, urban animal habitat. Our zoo is moving toward an inspired vision for the future. The Houston Zoo is a gem in our city. more

Ahh Lion! 8/21/2005

This is ZOO is the biggest I have been too. The service is always great and the park looks clean. The animals are awesome. They have snakes, lions, otters, sharks, and little spiders. Everyone has a fun time when they go to the Houston ZOO. Group rates are fairly cheap for those considering going with a huge group or school. They also offer handicap ramps and wheelchairs. more

Animals Everywhere 8/21/2005

I've lived in the Houston area for years now, but I never visited the zoo until my sister came to visit. We made a half day out of it, and we had a blast. We saw the new house exhibits, and we took our time walking around the zoo. We ate at the cafe that was located near the entrance to re-energize ourselves for a few more hours of fun. more

Fun 8/19/2005

The Houston Zoo Is fun for the whole family! There are lots of new attractions they added recently. Admission is cheap and gift prices are a bit overpriced. There are lots of different sections in the zoo. It has a pond and a park nearby. Parking is a hassle so make sure you come early. more

very fun, all outdoor 8/19/2005

the houston zoo is a definite must see for anyone who visits houston. it is located in the center of houston where there are a variety of shops and other things to do nearby. the zoo itself takes 3 to 4 hours to complete walk through and see all the animals. the zoo is a very wide range of animals to see and makes everyone happy. the gift shop is ok but nothing special. more

Houston Zoo 8/19/2005

the Houston Zoo is overall a great place. they have many additional activities in addition to the zoo. There is a paddle boat place right in the front of the entrance as well as a cho-cho train for the kids with like fair prizes. The summers are hard to go to the zoo because of the heat and the animals all hide inside their cages. But the zoo also allows pedestrian's to bring in food for picnics so it is a great place for a family to go and spend a day! The food and drinks are very expensive there but the entrance fee is reasonable. At Christmas they even do a Christmas light show. more

Great fun!!! 8/18/2005

I remember the good old days when the zoo was FREE!!!! Yes the zoo is better kept now, but It can be a little expensive to take a family of 5. There are also not a lot of indoor things to get away from the heat. I was there were more free days, like the museam offers. On the good side, my kids love going and the animals are well keep. more

Houston Zoo 8/18/2005

The Houston Zoo is a great bargain. I lived in San Diego for a while and the zoo there was extremely expensive. The Houston Zoo is only $7 for adults and $3 for children aged 3 to 12. It is open year round. The zoo is pretty big, I think it is about 55 acres. A good day of walking for sure. The zoo has some educational and conservation resources. The new children's area is great for small children. Most children love the petting zoo. I recommend going in the late fall, winter or early spring. The heat of the summer can be brutal and the animals do not move much. more
