I have been a member of the Post Oak Y for a couple years now and I still return several times a week. This Y offers all kinds of activities from racquetball to rock climbing to swimming. There are a host of weekly classes. I particularly enjoy the spinning classes, which are offered both morning and evening. The staff is always friendly and the equipment is top-notch!

Depelchin has been serving Houston for decades. They mostly offer services to battered women and children. I have volunteered at Depelchin on numerous occasions, and have found it very rewarding. The last time I was there I helped out by painting and fixing windows. The residents were very grateful for our help!
If you run the Houston marathon, you can elect to raise money for Depelchin.

Star of hope also has apartments with families trying to get off the street.
This is a very worthwhile organization to volunteer with.

It is hard to find good healthcare without insurance, but this is what the good neighbor clinic offers. They have a variety of services ranging from neo-natal care to dentistry. They offer assistance to low income families who would otherwise have trouble meeting the cost of healthcare somewhere else. The doctors and nurses at Good Neighbor really care about treating each person who comes in the door.

The Rothko Chapel is truly an amazing place. Even if you like Mark Rothko's work, this place is absolutely amazing. If you like Mark Rothko's work this place is an Eden for you. His works melt perfectly into the Chapel's surroundings. You need to check this place out, I feel that it is one of Houston's best kept secrets and is a great cultural value for adults ( and maybe kids.)

St. John Vianney Catholic Church is a very large community averaging 2000 people at every mass. They have multiple masses to choose from on the weekend, so time never becomes a problem. The community is more of the upscale class and therefore not always the most comfortable. The priests always make time to talk to you one on one if ever needed. It offers many different groups and classes to become involved in and is overall a great community. The best we found around the area.

this organization is a growing organization. named the vietnamese culture and science association, it promotes the spread of vietnamese culture and the proliferation of not only science but knowledge for the vietnamese members in the houston community. though it is new, it still needs support from the community. it puts on a lot of events that are directed to the children in the community, such as tobacco prevention and leadership camps.

This is the radio station with the greatest variety in Houston. No other station can claim anywhere near the level of diversity. It is a community radio station operated by the students of Rice University. At 50,000 watts it can be heard halfway to Austin. One can never be too certain of what will be heard on this station when you tune in. The music is usually great and the DJ’s are helpful, informative and usually enjoy taking calls.
