Best

Took the grandkids here and boy did they have a blast. There is a good size lake there as well where you can feed ducks and rent a paddle boat. The train ride is a must and dont...

Houston Zoo is not my favorite urban zoo ever. I found it too small and the animals seemed to be in some very cramped quarters. It was sort of depressing. That said, they have ...

Dirty zoo with poor exhibits 8/17/2005

We went to the Houston Zoo this summer and were very disappointed. The exhibits were very small and dirty. The glass was so filthy, you couldn't see through it to see the animals. The grass and weeds were so tall, it did not look like it had been kept up at all. The whole zoo literally stunk. The exhibits were poorly laid out and we could not see any animals. Literally the only animal we saw the entire time was the elephants and one giraffe. They also did not have adequate seating or places to cool off. I will never go back to the Houston zoo, and I was very very disappointed. Even my 2 year old was begging to go home, he was not having a good time. more

Nice zoo! 8/14/2005

This zoo is pretty nice. It is quite large and they have a wide variety of animals to look at. I would not recommend coming here on a hit summer day because most of the animals will be under their cool caves and you will end up with blisters and a crying baby. There is also a nice lake located right by the zoo! more

Rawr! 8/12/2005

Lions and tigers and bears... oh my! The Houston Zoo houses one of the most extensive bird collections in the country, plus over 100 species of fish. If you prefer mammals, then you can learn more about howler monkeys or vampire bats. A trip to the zoo is great fun for the entire family, especially the kids. Overall: educational and entertaining. Note: visit the site to find out what dates offer free admission. more

awesome 8/10/2005

very nice place to take family and friends. they have great service and the price isnt to expnesive. they have a large selection of animals for you to look at. sometimes on special occasions for kids they have sperperate aareas where children and adults alike are aloud to hold and learn about the animals thorugh a trainer. more

Lots of Animals 8/6/2005

The Houston zoo is located near many great parks and very close to the museum district. The zoo itself is fairly run down but has a lot of great animals. It is a great place for families to visit. On most public holidays admission to the zoo is also free making it a great way to spend the day at little to no cost. more

Good Zoo, Not so good for Houston 8/5/2005

You'd expect a big city like Houston to have an awesome zoo. Well, I wasn't very impressed. I mean, there are lots of animals, but they are nearly all in chain link cages and it just seems more cruel than fun to go and see. The seal exhibit with the pool and where they can put on shows is really neat. Prices are a tad high, but if you have a membership to your local zoo, if different than this one, you can get in free here which is a huge bonus! Overall, this is an ok zoo, but I left feeling sorry for the poor animals here. They didn't look like they were happy in their cages :-( more

Lions and tigers and bears oh my! 8/5/2005

I have been to some of the best zoos in the world. This is not one of them. BUT. With that said, this zoo is perfect for where it is located. I'm just happy to have a zoo so close to where I live. I have been to the zoo many times over the past few years. It needs a few repairs. A few new exhibits would be nice. All in all, I like this zoo. My girlfriend loves it. We go a lot. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to entertain yourself, check this zoo out. more

Perfect 7/23/2005

I love this zoo! Not only is it so interesting, but you can always get tours that are actually very interesting. In fact, it enthralled my son so much that he wants to be a zoologist now. It is a great place to go and I find it a nice alternative to the Houston Zoo. However, it is sometimes crowded and there is a limited amount of animals. Still, it makes it no less interesting! Great place to go for a bargain. You can go here anytime you want to and have a good time! Very family friendly!!! THERE IS NO DOUBT that when you come here you will have fun! I know that all my family had fun and that they continue to have fun every time I take them! more

Regular year after year 7/22/2005

My family always gets a "season pass" to the zoo every year because we go so much. It's not that it's the greatest zoo, but there is only so much to do around Houston, and this is the most cost effective. We try to stay away during the summer months when it's too hot outside and the animals aren't active and very sluggish. We are slightly disappointed that the rates will be going up, but it was expected. My children never get tired of going to the zoo since they are still young. We also like that the huge park is right nearby that they can swing and play in. The best time to go is in spring when the weather is great. more

Ok....But not great.. 7/21/2005

I found the Houston Zoo to be lacking. The atmosphere was ok, but there was something missing. The day I went, it was EXTREMELY crowded and I could not see the animals very clearly through the crowds. However, It seems that on a relatively calm day, it would be better. I personally found the zoo to be quite small but it was ok. If you're going to go, then make sure you go on a day on which it would seem it wouldn't be that crowded. Bring some refreshments to stay hydrated as the Houston weather will burn you up in the summer. I'd be willing to give this place another chance. more

One of the BEST Zoos 7/7/2005

The Houston Zoo is one of the best in the country. This zoo is continuously growing with new exhibits and animals. This zoo is open through the year, so that is very convenient, but the recent price increases are not. Their animal display is just amazing with over 20 endangered species, and over 500 other species. This zoo is very unique, for it has completed many new things that zoos have yet to tried, like the breeding of koalas. more

Family Fun 6/20/2005

The Houston Zoo is very family friendly. Unfortunately, the prices of tickets are about to rise again, but they are still competively priced compared to similar zoos. Everytime I've visted this zoo, the animals are always out for viewing. There is also a very neat children's area aimed at kids of all ages. The petting zoo is a family favorite because you access to brushes and can brush the animals. more

Zoo 6/16/2005

I recently went to the zoo in April and it was a lot of fun. I like seeing all the animals and all the different noises that they make. It is the one place that I could go again and again and never get tired of it because the animals are always doing different thing. This last time I went their was lady telling us a little bit of what monkey do it was very interesting. more
