Everything about my husband and I's time at Quattro was fabulous! Our cocktails were wonderful, there home made bread and olives...amazing. My fennel and parsnip soup was very tasty. My husbands Grilled Portobella mushroom salad was delicious. We shared a filet mignon and mushroom risotto which was excellent from first bite to last. The wine list is lengthy and packed full of hard to find gems. Very romantic.
Pros: Food, Ambience, Wine List

I am surprised to read so many negative reviews of Skyline Bar & Grill. My fiancee show up after making our reservation, and were seated almost immediately at a beautiful, corner window table. We ordered martinis, which were brought immediately. They were delicious and well-made. The menu is brief, but we truly enjoyed our appetizers and the wonderful steaks that we ordered. We enjoyed a very romantic evening view of Downtown Houston while talking and sampling appetizers, drinks, and steaks. The service was on cue, yet not intrusive. We both truly enjoyed the romantic experience.
Pros: Excellent Steaks and Creative Appetizers

My husband and I had dinner here on Valentine's Day and had a fantastic experience. They had a five-course Valentine's Day special with very different and exotic foods. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, and I didn't know if my meat-and-potatoes-loving husband would like anything, but we were both pleasantly surprised at how tasty everything was. The lobster shrimp sausage was nothing like I had ever tasted. The eggplant soup was delicious, as well as the salad. The main course was red snapper and polynesian sirloin. Each had a variety of flavors to accompany them, but were not overpowering and complimented it very well. Dessert was a trio of small treats, all delicious. The atmosphere was dim and modern, but very romantic. Excellent service as well. This is a great place to go for a special occassion, and especially if you want to try something a little different.
Pros: Unique food, romantic, great service
Cons: None

My husband and I have been fans of *17 for several years. Unfortunately, we have not been to dinner there since they had gotten their new Chef earlier this year. We had read lots of great reviews so I decided to take my husband there for his birthday prior to going to a concet in downtown. The restaurant looked amazing as they had changed the furniture in the room around. The large white chairs were quite comfy. The waitress knew we were on a time schedule due to the concert and made sure all 3 courses of our dinner were served in a timely manner. From our appetizer to our dessert, everything tasted incredible. I highly reccommend the Butternut Squash Soup and the Banana Creme Brulee. My husband and I both had two seperate fish dishes which were both flavored to perfection. We will definitely not be waiting so long to return.

Checked in - New Year's Day. Downtown houston was dead - I guess from the parties the night before for NYE. We absolutely loved our stay @ Magnolia!! We live in Spring and decided we would stay in town rather than go on our annual trip to Vegas. The rooms are beautiful, soft beds and comfortable. We wanted to get the most of our 3 day stay and was able to check in before 3pm (normal check-in) hotel hosted a complimentary happy hour of beer, wine and soft drinks - SUPER!! (saved money here especially since most businesses downtown were closed), enjoyed evening with cookies & milk (Loved the white chocolate w/cranberry cookes) and breakfast each morning consisting of hot foods not the ordinary continental breakfast with danish & juice - they offered bacon, eggs, potatoes, fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. I agree, the rooftop pool is nice, but very small (3ft). The view of Houston made up for it though - Ambiance, friendly staff and Christmas decor made us feel like we were out of town with
more benefits & less money than Vegas offers.
With all the hype of recession, loss of jobs, etc - it was nice to get away from it all in the little days of our stay. Be good to yourself. HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009!
Pros: Complimentary happy hour, cookies and breakfast buffet, walking distance to train and restaurants
Cons: Overnight parking $24/day; within/out privileges (look around before deciding on using their garage)

I stayed 3 nights at Hotel Icon so I wouldn't have to drive while taking the Texas Bar Exam at George R. Brown. The rooms were immaculate, the bathrooms were very nice, and the bar downstairs was impressive. The customer service was top notch and all of the employees were very friendly and professional. We used the hotel's car service to get to the convention center every morning. The drivers were always punctual, friendly, and understanding of our need to get to our destination quickly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming into Houston, either on business or leisure.
Pros: Staff, rooms, and car service.
Cons: No ice machine.
