Never Again 12/17/2011

I have eaten many times at Gulfstream CC; however, the meal and service (especially the service) on Friday night convinced me never to go again. We had reservations and selected Friday because it is one of 2 nights that serve the Dover Sole. Forget the price, the service and attitude were all too much for our liking and hence never again. We waited an inordinate time for our meal to arrive which was cold. Dover Sole SHOULD NOT arrive late. It was overcooked and the sauce was not befitting the caliber. Never again. more

Perfect date night for my husband and I 11/8/2010

My husband and I went here for our date night (few and far between with the kids) about a year ago, and we find ourselves going back whenever we can. This is the seafood version on the Bandera restaurant on Wilshire. While we like the food at Bandera a little better, Gulfstream is a great change of the menu. Try the artichoke appetizer- we get it every time! more

Fave Rest. in LA 6/15/2010

My fave restaurant in LA. Amazing Seafood however I actually prefer the steak and fries. Def. the best fries I've ever had. Great place to celebrate a birthday dinner. The location is a plus too as its right at Century City Mall. Pros: Seafood, Steak, and the best fries Cons: Price and always crowded more

Greatest Seafood Restaurant in Century City 6/30/2008

This is the greatest seafood restaurant in Century City. I have been to this restaurant many times for lunch and the service is always exceptional and the food is superb. The cedar plank salmon is fabulous, the scallops are large and expertly prepared, and the fresh fish specials are always delectable and typically served with an herb-butter sauce. I have tried all of their salads, and there isn't one I wouldn't recommend. My favorite is the grilled scallops salad, which includes baby beets, baby turnips, and baby carrots. I have taken clients to lunch and never been disappointed and can occasionally spot a movie/tv stars. Pros: Great food and service Cons: In a shopping mall, so access isn't that easy more

Excellent food and service!!! 2/10/2008

My friends and I were at the AMC cineplex in Century City to catch a movie when we thought of where we should have dinner. Houston's was crowded, so we headed over to Gulfstream. It was a wise choice. From the time we were seated, the service was wonderful. The server came right to our table, with a bright smile and introduced herself. The food (I had the Hawaiian Rib Eye, medium-well with a baked potato as a side) was very well prepared and the server was very attentive to our beverage refill needs. The ambience was just right, not too loud and not too quiet. The next time I'm in Century City, Gulfstream will definitely be at the top of my list once again. Pros: Everything. Cons: Nothing to mention. more

Gulfstream Knows What You Want Better Than You Do 1/1/2008

I work in Century City so I have patronized Gulf Stream many times, probably at least 20. Although the food is generally good, the philosophy of this establishment is unacceptable. Anytime you ask for something slightly different from the menu, your request is rejected as if the restaurant knows what you want better than you do. (The only reason I have been a repeat customer over the years is because either a companion or group wants to go.) more

Best Salmon and great service 11/30/2007

I love Gulfstream. They have the best salmon no matter how its prepared. They make a great Asian B-B-Q salmon that is delicious!! It is so tender and never dry. It is my favorite dish. the service is always excellent. The waiters are attentive without being annoying. It is easy to park since it is located in the mall. It gets very crowded however so its better to make reservations especially at lunch time. Pros: delicious food and wonderful service more

Stay away!! 8/26/2007

We waited forever in the cramped front of this restaurant for a table. Finally we got our table, a nice booth. I had three people wait on me-not sure who my waiter was, which is fine I get the teamwork thing-but none of them were friendly. One of my friends tried to change the vegetable of her fish and was told absolutely not-these aren't beautiful handcrafted highend dishes!! We could hear the chef screaming at the kitchen while trying to salvage what was left of our night and then my $34 plain grilled fish was over cooked- charred, stringy & dry -no wonder with that crazy lady screaming at the cooks. The weirdest night out I have ever had-I would laugh at it if it wasn't so expensive! :( Pros: Really Pretty room, nice booth & nice host Cons: food & service more

Best Fish in Town 2/17/2007

We made a stop at his easily accessible Santa Monica Blvd. hot spot to try what a co-worker of mine says is the best seafood in West LA. We started with oysters (which are always fresh from the west coast) and the wonderful and simple smoked salmon. I find in this city many chefs will attempt to overproduce certain dishes in an attempt to impress. Gulfstream is a delightful departure from this fad. The quality and freshness of their seafood, organic rotisserie chicken, and prime cuts of both fillet and rib eye can be paired with an estate bottled and well priced wine. The spaghetti squash tossed in a light herb butter with shiitake mushrooms and golden raisins highlights a selection of side dishes ranging from fully loaded baked potatoes to wild rice salad to brussels sprouts. I had a mesquite grilled seabass topped with a crab lemon butter and my wife went for the jumbo lump crab cakes. Both winners! Do not--and I repeat--do not pass on the Scharfenberger hot fudge sundae. We were most impressed by the food and wine knowledge of our server who was unobtrusively delightful throughout our visit. Pros: Service, quality of ingredients, quickly seated. Cons: Nobody playing the beautiful piano by the bar, tough to get in with parties over 6. more

Never had been sick from a restaurant in the United States before- BEWARE! 12/12/2006

Exquisite but Expensive 12/11/2006

Sister of Houston's chain, this place specializes in fish. It offers very basic menu, but listen up for the specials! I had the seabass with lemon butter topped with lobster meat and it was incredible. The portion looked smaller than the $36 price tag expected, but I was very satisfied and full after polishing off my place. My boyfriend had the Hawaiian fish that was sided with amazing wild rice with almonds and blueberries - simply delicious. This restaurants calls for a special occasion, since the bill will tally up to close to $100 for two (ordered only main course and glass of wine), but it is most definately worth the visit. I also read that the kitchen supports a sustainable table, which means that they vow not to overfish the oceans and feed the animals vegetarian organic feed, which is a major plus for restaurant ethics. Pros: Atmosphere: Booths, Friendly Wait Staff, Specials Menu, Taste Cons: Expensive, Confusing Entrance, Hostesses more

excellent fish. always lively 11/23/2006

Gulfstream is a great place for a well-prepared slab of fish, whether as a destination or after a day of shopping at the Century City mall. Lively scene, good wine list, and very attentive service. Love the open kitchen, where you can watch food being prepared. Pros: fresh seafood, hot fudge sundae more

Great Oysters 11/2/2006

I like this place, the food is good, service is good. They do seem to have quite a bit of a wait, but that just means that the food is in high demand. Pros: Oysters Cons: Wait more

best crabcakes in LA! 6/19/2006

I'm also a big fan of the Gulfstream/Houston's restaurants. Although yes it is a chain, the quality of the food is always excellent and always consistent. Salads are crisp and fresh, and your meat/seafood are always well-prepared and delicious. The only downside to GUlfstream in my opinion is the ambiance...not a ""romantic"" place because it tends to get noisy, but the food definitely is worth it! I also love their ""flan cake"" which is seasonal, but if they have it on the menu, definitely definitely get it, it's my favorite dessert EVER, just delicious and so creative. Although it's not perhaps ""gourmet"" or as ""creative"" as some of the other restaurants in LA, it gets points with me for quality and consistency. Pros: food, service Cons: noise, the wait! more

Not for Vegetarians 2/2/2006

When I went to Gulfstream for a business lunch, I liked the restaurant's style and appearance. And it appeared that the meat and seafood dishes were well-prepared. Unfortunately, I am a vegetarian and the menu was more than disappointing. The only vegetarian ""entree"" was ""fresh seasonal vegetables,"" a sure sign that the chef does not care to impress vegetarian epicures like myself, or even want our business. This was confirmed when I inquired whether the chef would prepare something -- anything -- vegetarian that was more appetizing but not on the menu. My server came back to tell me, in effect, no. He said I could have the one seemingly veg salad (minus the beans, which were cooked in meat broth). Vegetarians, if you're looking for sustenance at Gulfstream, think again. more

INCREDIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE 1/10/2006

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE BEST CAESAR SALAD IN THIS CITY, GO TO GULFSTREAM! ALSO, THEIR CRABCAKES WIN EVERYTIME! AND TO TOP THIS ALL OFF, PLEASE HAVE THEIR DIVINE LEMON MERRINGUE PIE-IT IS HUGE, BUT DELICIOUS! I COULD EASILY EAT HERE 3 TIMES A WEEK! ALSO, THE SERVICE IS TERIFFIC!! AND IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WAIT, YOU CAN CALL AND MAKE A RESERVATION, WHICH I WOULD SUGGEST. ENJOY!! more

AWESOME! 11/27/2005

Ok...so i'm going to let you all in on a little secret...go here on a Sunday or Monday and you'll find it to be ""1/2 price wine"" night! Anything under $70 a bottle is half price and they have a few terrific 22-30 dollar bottles. Can't go wrong. I loveeeee the salmon, the ribs are fab, the ahi wonderful...but my all time fave thing on the menu is the squash...be sure to get it as a side...it's drizzled with a bit of sugar and pistacios and then backed...soooooo yummy. Service rocks, people are nice. A bit loud but the food's worth it for the most part. more

kind of my favorite restaurant in LA 9/29/2005

I know it's in a mall, I know it's a chain, I know it's overrun on Saturday nights with hungry moviegoers waiting in a seemingly endless line to be seated...but we LOVE this restaurant. Call ahead to reserve a table after your movie lets out, and you can bypass the line altogether. The crispy chicken salad (simply referred to in our household as ""the Salad"") is always a winner, and the side orders of wild rice salad and spaghetti squash are both outstanding. Service is pleasant if sometimes a bit overworked, and the noise level can sometimes overpower conversations, but this is a great option and IMHO better than any of the restaurants at the Grove! Pros: Good Parking, Good Service, Consistent Quality more
