Rhododendrons 1/17/2006

Portlanders are lucky to have so many garden parks available. This one features seven acres of rhododendrons and azaleas which are amazingly showy when they are in bloom. Mother's Day at this garden is filled with strolling extended families. There is a spring fed lake and a tiered waterfall that adds to the beauty of this place. more

A Beautiful Place anytime of Year 12/27/2005

While this park receives most of its visitors during the traditional flowering season of the Rhododendron, it is beautiful any time of year. If you go in the off-season it is free and you can enjoy the springs and the abundant amount of waterfowl that live there year round. Rhododendrons are evergreen so enjoy the gorgeous shrubbery during the colder winter months. But of course, also go during the bloom season. Right around Mothers Day and the end of the school year seem to be the perfect times to benefit from the colorful show. more

Beautiful scenery 9/24/2005

We used to live in Westmoreland, so we were lucky enough to be very near the Rhododendron Garden, but even having moved out to the suburbs, we still make a point to come here several times in the Spring/Summer because it is such a beautiful place to visit. The rhodies and other blooming plants are undeniably gorgeous, but there is also so much more than just flowers here - the soothing sounds of running water, friendly ducks to feed, interesting trails to walk, wooden bridges to cross - it's just a really fun place to experience some of the natural sights and sounds of the area and to enjoy the day as a family. Whether you're taking pictures, eating a picnic, soaking up the scenery or just feeding the ducks (you can buy the feed - don't give them your lunch!), it is a calm and relaxing way to spend the day. more

How Beautiful! 7/14/2005

My boyfriend took me here on a date last Saturday and I can't get over how perfect and romantic it was. We got there about 5:30 p.m. and it was good timing because there weren't too many people there. We saw all of the ducks and geese and fed the squirrels saltless peanuts. The squirrels will eat right out of your hands! The lake is beautiful and I'm sure it is even better in the early Spring when the rhodies are blooming. There are a couple of waterfalls that just add that subtle touch to the place that makes the visit more than worthwhile! This is a must see for anyone who is interested in the outdoors. more
