Chrissy Field is the best place to run in SF. The path is long and flat, and on sandy dirt (so your knees won't hurt from pounding the pavement). The views of the beach, the bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge are beyond comparison. Also, there are always SO many other people jogging, power-walking, biking with their kids - it really gets me more pumped about working out to know that there are people staying fit all around me. I park at the Yacht Club, where there are always available spaces, and then just start running towards Fort Point. I would definitely recommend this path! Pros: everything! Cons: not a lot of places to get food after, but you can always go up to Chestnut St more

Golden Gate Park is probably a better place to get together with friends or take visitors, what with the arboretum and the Japanese Tea Garden and everything. Crissy field offers the most spectacular views though, including some of the best of the Golden Gate Bridge. It's striking shoreline landscape is my favorite place to walk in the city, when I just want to get away from the urban environment for awhile and unwind. While parking would probably be difficult, it's surprisingly easy to get here via mass transit. Or just walk here from the Marina it's flat, and great light exercise. A free shuttle bus that travels around the Presidio (cleverly called the "Presidi-go") stops near Crissy Field (catch it at scenic Fort Point after your feet have given out). Its rambling trip through the Presidio is so lovely, they could charge $5 and garner full loads of tourists. Pros: Inexpensive, The View, Relaxing Cons: Parking more

I greatly regret moving from the Marina 3 years ago, this place is so great. Long, flat, scenic walking/jogging is without comparison. Love seeing how happy my dog is to be here. Love that I can shower her after a swim. Love the mostly sunshine weather. Only downside are the frequent windy conditions and lack of vendors for lunch. Pros: lots of parking, beautiful, dog friendly Cons: lack of vending, wind more
