Not all that great compared to other community colleges 7/2/2006

The main problem with this college is convienience. When there are 30 microcampuses between which are divided your classes, it becomes a real challenge trying to schedule things in a sensible way. The 2nd problem is trying to find any information about anything at all - there are lines and lines of people, everywhere, especially at financial aid, and when you get to the front of the line they won't speak to you and just shove forms at you. It isn't like this at all colleges. And no one wants to tell you anything you need to know. The 3rd biggest problem is simply quality. There is none. I had many instructors who were supposed to be the very best the college had to offer, and boy was I dissapointed. On top of that, the campuses almost all really ghetto. The place seems to have no air conditioning or heating. It is ok if you have absolutely no place else you can go, but I would not recommend it at all. more

This city college offers a wide range of classes for students as well as adults. The teachers seem to take pride in their teaching. This is a good community college to attend if you're looking at transferring to a university in 2 years. The counselors are pretty knowledgeable and can help students decide what classes are transferrable to a UC. It would be great if books sold at the Used Book Store could be less expensive, making it more affordable for students. more

Good Local J.C~ 8/12/2005

Haven't decided to go to University just yet? Trying to get ready to go back to school? Need to make up a couple of extra credits? This junior college is the place to be. It is a great local college with an abundent of classes for day and night student. Design for Part time student to get a degree while they work. The classes are well taught, but it's really about the effort. I took a writing class here and very similar to high school teaching, but with more work and accountability. They have a lot of upper-division classes that are at more of a college level. Very good to prepare you for the real university. Near 101 and the bart, it has a lot of public transit. more

I love taking dance and other P.E. classes through SF City College. Why? Because it's cheap. Classes at regular dance or yoga studios can run from $10-$15 a session but you can sign up for an entire semester of classes at City College for under $40. Fee are approximately $26/unit + $11 Semester Health Fee and the dance/ P.E. classes are all only one unit. Classes usually start at 6pm/8pm so it's convenient to go after work. Classes are held at the Phelan campus, which is easily accessible by BART and MUNI. Instructors at City College do take roll so try not to miss class or you may end up with a failing grade! more
