First of all, this place is very relaxing. I always feel welcome and at home at this salon, which says a lot. Lainie truly is an artist and cares about her work-more so than making a quick buck off of you unlike some of the other pretentious salons in this town. She will do exactly what you want...if you tell her. I brought in a picture of some highlights and when I was finished, my hair looked just like what I wanted. Also, she does highlights in such a way that they look very natural when they grow out so if necessary, you go a bit longer between visits. I also like that she truly tries to find a color that is complimentary and looks natural on me. Not only is she a warm hearted person, but she is truly knows what works for your hair and will give out an honest opinion. Pros: relaxing ambiance Cons: ??? more

She works magic! 3/7/2008

I have had long hair my whole life. During a consultation Lainie recommended that I go shorter, stating it would work well with my face. It took me coming to see her several times and building up trust to take a chance and try it. I am so happy that I did! I look younger! She also added some highlights to enhance the cut. I feel like a million bucks! Thank you Lainie for being patient with me and persistent, You have made me feel so amazing! Lainie and Kris are so personable and friendly. They put you at ease and give you a great experience. It is like going to visit with friends who just so happen to do your hair while you are there. Pros: very friendly, realistic advice Cons: I can't hang out there everyday more

Best hair I've had in Austin 3/4/2008

I think this might have been the first time ever that a hairdresser actually listened to what I wanted and delivered it! The salon is casual and comforting- no one staring at you to make sure you are being cool. Lainie is a star at color- she helped me choose colors that would grow out nicely, and enhance my eyes! I have gotten so many compliments from friends and co workers that I know I have earned my free haircut! (she has a great referral program going too!) I am not sure what that last reviewer was going on about- if it wasn't for those fabulous texture scissors my hair would not possibly do what I want it to do! Lainie also explained everything she was doing to me throughout the service- and I felt absolutely confident with her skills. I would say that she does real hair- hair that doesn't have to be ""fixed"". Low Maintenance Hair. Her salon is very clean and AMAZING! I love the vintage decor, and her dog Stella is the cutest thing I have ever seen! Add me to the long list of fans! Pros: comforting casual environment, hairdresser listens Cons: had to wait two weeks for my appointment- but was worth it! more

Not impressed 3/2/2008

I went for the first time based on all of the favorable reviews online. I have had much better haircuts -- my friends even agreed. (If you do go, keep her away from those thinning shears -- she likes to use those things which most of the stylists I've used before said they won't go near since your hair grows in badly after that.) Pros: the atmosphere is fun and lanie seemed cool Cons: i didn't get a good haircut more

Brought My Hair Back from the Dead 12/31/2007

After a pretty terrible experience at a local ""day spa"" salon, I was in dire need of a new haircut to repair the damage done. I read Lainie's reviews on CitySearch and was very impressed that some of her clients make the trip from Houston to see her. She does book up pretty far in advance (at least 2 weeks), but it was well worth the wait. The salon is located in a little house, and immediately after coming inside, I fell in love with the place. Quirky furniture and sparkly walls add to the fun, but professional atmosphere. Stella, the French bulldog, greeted me with happy grunts and proceeded to snooze next to me on the couch. Lainie listened to my tales of hair woe, and offered solutions before picking up her scissors. She spoke to me realistically about what she could fix and what would just take time to grow. I appreciated her advice and candor, and I found myself very at ease (a difficult feat when in the hands of a new stylist). Her haircuts are very reasonably priced (about $40), and the individualized service was top-knotch. I would definitely recommend Lainie to anyone looking for a great haircut and a salon without pretentious, under-qualified stylists! Plus, Stella is a peach. Pros: Professional and Skilled, Fun and Relaxing Cons: Books up! Call 2 weeks in advance! more

For the best color in town! 11/3/2007

Lainie is a color Diva! I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my hair- so I trusted her to pick the colors. She picked colors I would have never chosen- and at first I was scared. It ended up being the best color I have ever had. I have never gotten as many compliments! She is down to earth and friendly- no pretention here. Another thing that struck me as unique was that her color mixing station is out in the open- so you can see what she is mixing. She is very open about what products she uses and her salon is CLEAN. She put me at ease and I knew I was with a true professional. Pros: Great color expert more

The best at what she does 3/16/2007

I have to say first that I am willing to, and do indeed, drive 6 hours round trip to have Lainie color and cut my hair. (And I'm not the only one. I know of a number of other clients who travel great distances for her services.) She has been working with my hair for over seven years, and while I tried other stylists when she moved from Houston to Austin, essential elements were missing. Pros: I can count on leaving and looking good. Cons: She's in Austin and I'm in Houston. more

The name says it all! 1/26/2007

This was my first visit to Bliss Salon. I was referred by a friend who has fabulous hair. While it doesn't look like much from the outside, the salon is really quite a hidden gem. The decor is retro and colorful, with fresh flowers and aroma therapy candles burning. Bossa Nova music added to the relaxed style of the place. Lainie greeted me and immediatley made me feel at home, offering me a multitude of beverages and even chocolate! She gave me a very thurough consultation- asking me many questions to get to know me as best she could, and the suggestions she made were well thought out. She gave me fabulous color and a very functional cut. I can tell that she really cares about her work and her salon. She is very personable and a pleasure to talk with. The products she uses are high quality, from the color to the styling products. She gave me samples to try and I have to say I love them- it has been three weeks since my services and my color looks as fresh as it did the day I had it done! I have to agree with what everyone else is saying- Bliss is ""blissful"" and Lainie is fantastic! Pros: Great space- comfortable friendly service, Cons: Had to wait two weeks to get in! more

A true artist 1/18/2007

Lainie is the best. Period. Need I say more? I have lived in Austin my entire life- and I have been to the most popular salons and to the most expensive salons, but Bliss salon is just right. You can relax- no pretention here. The atmosphere is loungy, the music is great and always interesting. Lainie is interesting and fun to talk with- definitely not a drama queen. She is reliable and consistent. Her haircuts work because instead of giving you a cookie cutter haircut she actually sculpts your hair. I have never had a haircut grow out so gracefully. Pros: quality service in a relxed atmosphere Cons: if you wait till the last minute- you might not get in!!!! more

Excellent customer service- fair prices- exceptional color and hair services 1/18/2007

Lainie cares about keeping your hair healthy. She was brutally honest with me the first time I met her, telling me that my hair would not ""do"" what I wanted it to do without being horribly damaged. She offered me alternatives that were better suited for me and I appreciated it. She seems to have an indepth knowledge of hair color chemistry, and listening to her tell me about what was happening in my hair on a molecular level was fascinating! I have to agree with what everyone else is saying- Lainie is the Color Diva! Her salon is so cute I wish I could move right in. She has won a loyal client in me. Pros: Honesty, knowledge, prices more

Color Godess and hair extension queen! 12/2/2006

Lainie knows her stuff- she has skills!! I look like a hollywood starlet when I leave her salon. My natural real hair- mousy brown, thin, and shoulder length-BLAH! When Lainie works her magic on me, no one has to know that though. To the world I have long thick amber and blonde drop dead gorgeous hair! Her hair extension prices are the best in town too. Pros: Those mad skills- hair extensions, color, quality products used Cons: I have to drive 6 hours total to get to her! more

Worth the drive! 12/2/2006

I started going to Lainie when she worked in Houston. When she moved to Austin I tried other stylists but no one compared to her. She gives stellar service and makes you feel great! So- a group of us drive up from Houston (3 hours each way) to get our hair done once a month by our lovely Lainie! Check her out- she's the best! The talk on the street is true- she is the color Diva! Pros: Professionalism, skills, atmosphere Cons: Why did she have to move so far from us??!!! We miss you!! more

Sweet Salon 10/26/2006

I first started going to Lainie when she was at Topaz salon. She was recommended because I have naturally curly hair. I've been going to her for the past 5 years, and have been to her very own salon several times. The atmosphere and her personality make you feel right at home and extremely comfortable. I highly recommend the experience! more

A totally cool experience 9/28/2006

Bliss Salon is great because Lainie Lamb is great! She is a total professional with good suggestions, advice, and tons of experience to back it up. Go to Bliss Salon for the total experience--you won't regret it. more

Absolutley the best! 9/21/2006

Lainie Lamb is my stylist and she is the best! She listens, she is professional, and she is extremely talented! Her salon is incredible! She uses only the best products too. I get compliments on my hair continuously, and hand out her cards to everyone I meet. No one does color as good as she does-especially highlights and lowlights. Once you experience Bliss you wont want to go anywhere else! I LOVE you Lainie!!! Pros: color is the best, great atmosphere, professional and on time Cons: I can't take her home to do my hair everyday! more

Blissful experience 9/1/2006

Lainie is the first stylist to get my hair blonde without it turning orange or getting damaged. She knows color! I will be sending all of my friends to see her! Pros: Color knowledge and fair prices more

Lainie is the absolute best !!! 9/1/2006

You will not find a hairdresser who is more considerate and concerned about your hair and your appearance. She does the best color- my red NEVER fades! Lainie is down to earth and super friendly- her salon is so beautiful I would love to move right in! I am her number one fan! Pros: quality color service / fabulous atmosphere / friendly & approachable more

The best in Austin 7/6/2006

How can you not love Lainie? She has a great eye for what styles will work with your face--a trait that not many stylists have. She also is terrific at finding a hair color that works with your own coloring. I was a habitual dye-out-of-the-box girl until Lainie convinced me to let her color my hair. The color was perfect and I am a drugstore dye girl no more! more

Great Cut and Color in Wonderful Setting 7/5/2006

Just went today after reading other reviews and must add my voice to the chorus singing praises of Lainie. She is really friendly, thoughtful and has excellent recommendations. I was reluctant to go with bangs but I bet she probably would have done them great because I LOVE my new hair. I'm excited to finally find a hairstylist in Austin that I can feel comfortable with to explore new colors and styles. And she is fun to talk to and offers nice drink selection to see you through a long hair session! Pros: Great style and cut, reasonable prices Cons: can't think of any honestly more

Great color, conversation, and surroundings! 7/5/2006

Lainie is an artist, there's no question about it. Her new shop, Bliss, is her own creation from the bottom up; she even put the glitter into the floor! The retro decor, fabulous music (which Lainie will actually change if you want something different -- a real switch from being bombarded by high-decibel techno noise at most salons), relaxing garden that's all yours while your color ""takes,"" and choice of refreshments are part of the recipe that makes Bliss blissful. Besides all this and perhaps more to the point, Lainie is the only person in the ten years since I've been away from New York, who can color my hair. Give yourself a treat and follow your bliss. Pros: Great color and fun, yet relaxing, environment Cons: Lainie used to be two blocks from my house, and now she's six miles away. more
