Stress Releiver 5/8/2011

My experience at Ummelina was wonderful. I always worry about the stress of parking, but this time I walked into downtown which definitely took the stress away. The mood set in the spa decor makes you feel as though you have been transported somewhere else. I had a facial which I have only had once before. I never felt as though I was interested in this treatment, but boy was I wrong. Jordan was my esthetician. He made me feel comfortable from the beginning. He washed and massaged my feet and treated me with soothing products. He offered wonderful knowledge about each product and why he was using it. I left feeling relaxed and my skin definitely looked and felt younger. This spa is definitely recommended regardless if you are getting a massage, wrap, or facial. I highly recommend Jordan for a facial. He will make you feel right at home and leave you looking refreshed. more

Amazing Facial! 4/4/2011

I was delighted by the "Revive" facial I had last weekend at Ummelina Day Spa in downtown Seattle. Ummelina really is a sanctuary in the middle of the city. As other people have mentioned in their reviews, I love the pajamas that they provide for you as opposed to the usual robe, as well as the complementary herbal tea. My esthetician for the facial was Jordan. He seemed very knowledgeable about skin and was a excited and enthusiastic about seeing positive changes in my skin. The treatment itself was over-the-top luxurious, from the generous use of fabulous smelling products, to the facial massage, to the hand and foot warmers. And I was happy that Jordan was able to squeeze a very quick brow wax into the treatment that was also very good. When I left, I noticed a definite improvement in my skin... it made want to keep going back for more results... which I definitely will! more

Pretty Incredible 3/5/2010

I went for a pedicure. I scheduled at the very last minute but was able to get in for the quick version (sauri sauri I think it's called). I was sitting in the sanctuary and a lovely woman came in with a foot tub and scrubbed my feet and then gave me a fabulous foot rub. The she just got up and left. I was confused... ...it was only when Melanie came in and said that she was about to start my pedicure that I realized that the first foot bath and massage had nothing to do with the pedicure... I must have looked confused b/c she asked me if I was ok... i had to explain that I thought I had already had a pedicure. Too Funny. Everything was wonderful. I think for some people, there might have been too much waiting around. Melanie was running late so my 45 minute pedicure appointment took about 2 hours. However, it was exactly what I needed. And "waiting around" in a beautiful and relaxing room listening to soothing music in a spa robe, sipping tea, with a neck warmer and having your feet bathed and rubbed... well for that kind of waiting around, SIGN ME UP! I am now planning to commit to a spa day and treat myself to some other services. I'm already SUPER excited. Pros: Service, atmosphere Cons: perhaps a long wait for those in a rush, but it didn't bothe more

so so spa 1/16/2010

Never been to Ummelina although I heard lots of good things about the place. Finally had the chance to check it out and found that the facility is beautiful, parking is validated and customer service is good. I wish I could say the same for the massage service I received. I won't be returning. Pros: Beautiful facility, convenient location Cons: so so massage more

AHHHHH, What a Wonderful World.. 11/30/2009

The smells, the services and the decor were so wonderful. I wish i could afford to go more often, as they are pricey. (But worth every cent.) Pros: Best Spa in Washington!!!! Cons: Parking is not easy more

Looking for a relaxing spa experience? Go elsewhere! 9/23/2009

Too bad there isn't a zero star rating. I had a hectic week of meetings and based on the recommendation of a colleague was hoping for deep relaxation at Ummelina. Unfortunately the promise of the services as described on their website was never met. Instead throughout the entire Pacific Rim Journey they were either selling me on their products or trying to upsell me on services. I came to relax, I got a sales pitch at every turn while there, and I walked out $360 poorer and frustrated by the experience. I called and emailed to express my dissatisfaction and they essentially defended their practices, gave me an empty apology, and left it at that. I've been to a number of spas around the country, DO NOT waste your time or money on this place. Pros: Website that lures you into thinking it'll be memorable Cons: The service and the constant sales pitch for their products more

Jaala is the best massage therapist! 7/11/2009

Jaala is an amazing massage therapist. We were on vacation from Chicago and needed some R&R. We scheduled a massage at Ummelina based upon a recommendation from a friend of ours that had visited Seattle about 8 months ago. All she could talk about was this spa experience. It really is that. They treat you well. JAALA is wonderful - she was my massage therapist. She listened to all my concerns and needs and was great. She has really strong technique, which I can appreciate being in the same industry and getting a massage/month, and utiliizes it well. I cannot say enough about Jaala - she is worth it. We each had a 90 min session and that would be my recommendation - it's worth it! Tell her Jason from Chicago sent you! Pros: Jaala's hands, smile, and technical ability Cons: traffic noise more

Not a great spa experience 3/26/2009

I received a $250 gift certificate for Ummelina for Christmas two years ago and finally decided to go use it. Ummelina came highly recommended so I was pretty excited. I scheduled a 60 minute massage ($90) and a facial ($120) and thought I would have enough for tips (or I could save it again to use towards something else. First of all, the massage was okay. It wasn't great and I have certainly had better for less. The girl was nice and friendly so otherwise I have no complaints. Moving on to the facial...I would have to say this experience turned me off of facials going forward. The main reason why I even felt compelled to write a review is because today, 5 days later, I am (STILL) more broken out than I have been since I was in high school! I'm embarrassed to be at work and had to cancel lunch plans yesterday because it is so bad. The final straw was when the girl at the front desk said I owe $250 for services (not including tip). She then broke it down so I could determine how much tip to pay each person and it was, sure enough, $90 for the massage and $120 for the facial. Hmmm...I can still only get to $210. I was irritated at that point and just wanted to leave. Overpriced, bad experience. Pros: Nice people Cons: Overpriced, mediocre massage, facial made me breakout more

Gift Certificate 12/22/2008

I recently purchased a Gift Certificate, again, from Ummelina and they always exceed my expectations. I love the way that they are wrapped and the help that i get from the front desk. I just want to thank Ummelina for years of exceptional service, i feel like i have seen all of the therpaists and they make me feel welcome. Thank you and Happy Holiday's Ummelina. Nancy Pros: staff, services more

best massage 11/17/2008

I love to visit all kinds of spa's and i am new to seattle so i went to Ummelina and it was great. I had a wonderful massage with Jen. She said she had been there a long time and i can see why they keep her around! :) it was a different spa than i am used to, hard to explain, more natural i guess? and it made my experience feel really authentic, not cold and sterile. i loved the massage and the atmosphere, i highly recommend ummelina!!!! Pros: staff, atmoshpere, massage, skill level Cons: none! more

Awkward service, rude manager, sweet set up 10/15/2008

I've been to about a dozen or so spas around the country. While vacationing in Seattle, my bf and I did one of the larger couples packages they offer and massages. First off, its completely true that Ummelina's does have a really nice set up. We were 15 minutes early for our treatment which, at most spas, is appreciated. The girl at the front desk rolled her eyes at us and informed us that we would have to wait. The Equator treatment was nice in theory but they only have one masseuse for two people! Which means that you spend half of the 2 hours doing nothing. I'm not sure how they can justify charging for two. Both of us thought that these were the worst two massages we've ever had at a spa. Next is where the fun began. As we're leaving I hand the girl at the front desk my credit/debit card which she tries a few times without success and then calls the card company. They tell her that the card is now shut off. She hangs up the phone tells me that she refuses to even give me the card back because its not mine. I volunteer to literally dump out my wallet to prove that I am indeed the person whose name is on the card. She gets the manager who is also EXTREMELY rude. She makes a horde of comments implying that I am a criminal and poor, then calls building security and THE POLICE to the spa and tells them that I am trying to leave without paying and that I've stolen someone's wallet. I had to explain over and over again through my sobbing that I was on vacation and wasn't carrying hundred of dollars of cash on me and that I would be happy to give them ALL of my information and more. Even the police recognized right away that I wasn't a criminal. They completely ruined my spa day over a credit card company glitch that was solved by the next morning. If you like snooty people, like spending a lot of money to have someone kinda rub you, and would like to know what it feels like to be a criminal, go to Ummelina's. Otherwise, go anywhere else. more

incredible 9/14/2008

I have been to both locations and it's insane! I regularly visit seattle, as that i live in c-town!, but went to the Yakima area for some wine. The spa is gorgeous! the therapists i had were amazing, i am assuming they are from seattle, but unsure as that they were so good. I have visited multiple spa's in c-town and nothing is like the yakima spa. the shower changes flow of water, there is a tub that is incredible. I was really surprised to find something like this in Yakima. It's right next to hotel, the Hilton, which next time i will stay there for convience! Super surprised about the experience. thank you Ummelina for classing up Yakima and now i can get wine and massage in the same place!!!! YEAH Pros: 2 locations, skilled massage, great facials, ect Cons: is there a con? more

Great treatments, lacking in customer service 9/2/2008

My friend and I visited the Yakima Spa where I had the full day spa package spending a little over $500. not including a very generous gratuity My friend had the fusion facial and bought products spending approximately $250. She was very pleased with her facial and I was very pleased with all my treatments. Melini and Ashley were great. However, we were disappointed with the so called "relaxation room" and dining area which are also work areas. It appears that they are trying to be "Zen like" but there is no water flowing in the areas except the faucets where attendants are filling vessels, etc. A microwave is running and when I was supposed to be relaxing after my facial, three people were receiving pedicures in this "relaxation room". The music in the treatment rooms was loud and not the soothing sounds I am accustomed to in other spas I frequent. At the end of my "spa day "I asked if someone would drive me back to my hotel a few blocks away since my friends had gone on to the wine country and would not be returning to Yakima until several hours later. The receptionist and manager seemed shocked and totally unprepared for this service request and the receptionist asked if I wanted the number of a taxi service. Anywhere else they would at the very least offer to call the number for you. Customer Service is one area where Yakima needs improvement. When I asked them to call for me, the manager went to the hotel next door and had them call the cab and she asked me to wait in the hotel lobby. Pros for the Yakima location are: treatments & treatment rooms are top notch, friendly attendants. Cons: Customer Service, relaxation room, dining & dressing areas, background music, lack of sophistication. more

Best Spa in the west! 8/15/2008

I travel a lot for work and I am afforded the luxury of visiting spa's of all caliber and Ummelina hands down is one of the best. I have in fact been to both locations in Seattle and Yakima both amazing. Different vibe, probably because of location? I was shocked to find something like Ummelina in Yakima, it was perfect that it was next to my hotel! I recommend the facial, with Rachel in Seattle and Milini(believe this is correct spelling). Thank you for making my stressful traveling manageable! Pros: talented staff, beautiful environment, organic products more

Really Bad Experience !!!! Never again 7/21/2008

One of the worst SPA experiences in my life, this place doesn't even have air conditioning, it was hot, loud and dirty, this place smells like mold, they had me waiting for over 20 minutes and nobody even offered a cup of tea or nothing. They want you to buy products, too much pressure. DISGUSTING, I?m never going back Pros: Nothing Cons: Dirty, expensive, more

OH MY EFFING GOSH!!!! Experience the true meaning of perfection and luxurie!!! 6/28/2008

Me and my mom went to this spa and it was phenomenal. When we first entered it smelled like heaven, it smelled like NATURAL herbs and essences instead of those migrane/nausea causing chemical parfumes. This spa is cleaner than clean, the only other con I can say is that as you enter you enter into the store and that puts a very very very small amount of pressure to buy stuff and may detract from some peoples relaxing experience. We were helped right away and were escorted to very nice very clean changing rooms. The only con is that they are co-ed but the doors close all the way so it tottaly doesnt matter. Also if you are uncomfertable undressing all the way they will let you keep your clothes on, the robes they give you are the best I've ever felt. Then we were escorted to a very very nice lounge were we were greeted with warm chairs and a blanket. We were given a neck wrap that was the perfect temperature and were given HOT tea! And then we got an amazing foot massage with essential oils, My feet are very ticklish and the woman who was massageing my feet adapted to feet my needs. Who could ask for more!? Also there were these really cool all natural air fresheners that smelled really nice they did everything for you, sprayed the air fresheners, put slippers on you, get honey for your tea even if the hunny is right next to you. We went to get our massages and it is the best massage I have ever gotten, top notch. There was soothing music, the sheets were so soft and the massuse was super polite and very helpful, the shower before was super helpful for relaxation, the other spas I have been to have never offered that or any of the luxuries I recieved. The staff was top notch and helpfull and not nosy at all, they were very efficient and they made my experience perfect. I would recomend this to anyone who wants to experience the true meaning of perfection and luxurie. Pros: Everything! SUPER CLEAN!!!! Cons: Pressure to buy products (although pressure was very small) more

best in seattle 6/17/2008

I was recently in Ummelina for a couple of services and it was more than i could have asked for! I had a pedicure with Marika and it was so relaxing and not what i was expecting! I was able to lie down on a table(maybe a massage table?) I have never almost fallen asleep during a pedicure. Then I had an Equator with Jen it was like nothing I had ever experienced! First i was in a shower that was described as a waterfall and it totally was! Then I had a salt scrub and then moved to a hot room where i was covered in mud! it was so cool! i would recommend this to everyone. Don't listen to the bad hype my experience was unbelievable. Pros: ladies that work there, environment, services more

WORST SPA EVER!!! 6/8/2008

This is one of the worst spas I've ever visited and I'm no stranger to spas. The changing rooms are co-ed with curtains that don't close all the way. The staff gave us no welcome and explanation because they were "handling" something at the front. While we waited for our services the microwave was in constant use and the tea was lukewarm. I asked that it be reheated TWICE before I got something about as hot as my tap. After our services we were taken to a shower where the water was warm, not hot, warm. Having it set on the highest setting gave me, essentially a warm tea bath. Ick. After that no one escorted us to the sitting room or offered us tea. For 20 minutes. That's right: our massage girl got called away and a message was apparently given to another staff person to take care of us but that person forgot. HOW DO YOU FORGET ABOUT YOUR CLIENTS??? After 20 minutes, I went to the front desk to ask if anyone knew we had been waiting and in fact, no one did. The person who has so graciously "forgotten" about us then brought us more warm tea. This is the opposite of a "relaxing spa experience". When I complained on the way out I was told by staff that they would talk to the manager and have her call me. She called TWO AND A HALF WEEKS LATER! Only to offer up one excuse after another about staffing issues, running a busy spa and opening another one somewhere else in eastern WA - however she did give me an apology and offered to send me a bottle of scented something. That was over a month ago and I have not received it, or a note of apology. Don't get me wrong, I didn't expect my services to be comp'ed but COME ON! This is a dirty, dusty, warm watered "spa" where the staff are either over-worked or incompetent and everyone is afraid to do or say anything other than that they're sorry and they'll need to take it up with the manager or owner. This spa is a pathetic waste of money. Don't make the same mistake we did. Pros: none more

  • The Scene
Nina Ummel has gone to great lengths (and distances) to bring her clients a unique spa experience: hand-carved teak doors from Java; 27 exquisite teas from around the world; and the solarium, a quiet place reminiscent of a luxurious Eastern destination. Wicker chairs, flowing silk drapes and natural light diffused by bamboo blinds provide an exotic beginning to your "journey."

    The Services

The Equator is a two-hour indulgence: spend 20 minutes relaxing in a waterfall shower before moving into a steam room infused with the scent of essential oils, followed by a salt rub and water massage. Finally, enter a dry sauna where warm oils and muds are rubbed into your skin. The signature Revive facial employs an enzyme peel instead of traditional extractions for a gentler approach to deep pore cleansing.

    The Details
Whirlpool, soaking tub, steam room, dry sauna, waterfall shower. Massage, body treatments, wet treatments, acupuncture, facials, hair removal, sunless tanning, manicure/pedicure, full-service salon.
