Best

My experience at Ummelina was wonderful. I always worry about the stress of parking, but this time I walked into downtown which definitely took the stress away. The mood set in ...

Worst

The receptionists were fairly abrupt and whoever helped me pick out my treatment over the phone was very unhelpful. Hello? I'm saying 'help me spend my money at your spa' and you ...

TERRIBLE Customer Service 3/6/2007

I received an online gift certificate from Ummelina. The services (a massage and facial) were fine. When I checked out the clerk told me that my gift certificate was for more than the services I had used. That was a nice surprise, and not wanting to waste the money, the clerk suggested I use the balance to purchase some of their products. I did, although didn't use them for long because they made me break out. (luckily I didn't pay for them right?) Well.... Over a month later, I received a phone call from the "manager" saying that they had charged my service to the wrong gift certificate and I owed a difference of $60. The guy even asked if I actually had a gift certificate or if I just had them look one up, insinuating some dishonesty on my part! So insulting! When I said I didn't think I should be responsible for their mistake since I only bought the products because of the erroneous remaining balance on the gift certificate, I was handed over to the general manager who got on the phone and rudely told me they would just charge my credit card if I didn't pay the balance. These people have taken a generous gift from a close friend and completely ruined it for me. I will NEVER go back to Ummelina, and I suggest you don't waste your time. Cons: Bad Service, Rude Staff more

Not worth the time or money 2/28/2007

Ummelina use to be a great spa. Not so much anymore. The spa is dirty and the front desk is run by young kids who don't know what they are doing. With so many spas opening in the Seattle area you would think the owner would get a clue. I was there last month with a group of women and we were treated so poorly that I would never recommend this spa to anyone. With so many great spa's now open in the Seattle area don't waste your money or time here. Pros: none Cons: to many to mention more

Good and bad at Ummelina--Beware 2/5/2007

My treatment at Ummelina was excellent. What was not excellent was getting a $100 charge on my credit card for a "cancellation". In fact I had rescheduled my services 3-4 weeks prior to my actual treatment. I got my confirmation call and went in at the scheduled time. When I paid on the way out, no one even mentioned that they had charged my credit card two days prior. When it came through on my bill, I contacted them thinking it was a mix up because I paid partially with a gift certificate. It did not corrected so I called the credit card company and again contacted Ummelina.. Only then did I learn that they were charging me as a "no show" for services that had been rescheduled weeks in advance--that they say were two days prior to when I actually had my appointment. The worst part has been their attitude. My credit card company said they will handle it. Pros: Nice environment Cons: credit card charge errors and billing practices more

Love the foot baths 11/2/2006

I enjoy going to this place. They treat you like royalty. It smells so wonderful and I instantly relax the second I enter the spa. My massage treatments have been great and so have my facials. This place is a must!!! Pros: lOCATION, ambience, staff Cons: parking more

Safari Trip 9/6/2006

My wife booked a Safari for, shavel(?), manicure, pedicure, and added on a massage. I have had spa stuff before but never like this. The shavel is a facial and a shave add it up and you get a shavel, incredible. Whoever came up with this is a genius! My manicure and pedicure where with Delia my hands and feet where new again, the picture in the room that i was in said one of the other girls that worked there was voted number 1 once...if my vote counts i vote for Delia. My massage was great too. Thank you for making my experience great and thanks for booking this for me Sweetheart! Pros: services, staff, atmosphere Cons: have to call a couple of weeks in advance to make an appointment more

Best Spa in Seattle treatments, customer service...all of it 6/27/2006

I frequent spas all over the world and Ummelina is definitely at the top of my list. In Seattle it is number 1!!! I love the salt glow and it is my number one gift for friends on the east side of the mountains. I also now know why Ummelina is know for the Half day excursion. I had Melanie for a facial and Jen for my massage I left feeling pampered and taken care of. I will not stop going!!! Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful experience for me and the friends and family I bring in. Pros: close to restaraunts and shopping, all around service more

Very nice in-city retreat 4/14/2006

Today was my first time to Ummelina and I had the Renewal package and my boyfriend had an hour and a half massage. The facility is beautiful and we both had an excellent and very relaxing experience. The desk staff is not quite as polished as one would expect for a facility at this price level, but they were friendly and helpful. The massage therapists were very skillful (Joy and Lindsay) and we will definitely go back again. The foot bath was unexpected and a great start to a relaxing 2 hours. Pros: Friendly staff, Relaxing pace, Nice extras Cons: Faint street noise more

improvements have been made 3/21/2006

I used to frequent this spa quite a bit years ago but stopped going because I felt that the staff was rude and the services were falling behind. Recently someone purchased a gift certificate for me so I decided to try it out again. Oh how things have changed, they have a new hydrotherapy tub that is amazing! The staff is much more accomidating and the spa as whole seems cleaner and nicer! I don't know if management changed or what but it is very nice now. They also seem to have very tallented practioners working for them My massage was WONDERFUL. My therapist did exactly what I wanted her to do and seemd very confident in her abililties! I am now an ummelina client again! Pros: skill of staff, clean, front desk Cons: parking expense more

Don't purchase Ummelina gift certificates online 2/26/2006

I purchased an Ummelina gift certificate online for an important client assuming it would be of the same quality as the in-store gift certificates. The order process was just awful and not only did the certificate my client received not include any information about the 'from' (she had to figure it out through process of elimination), I was also charged twice for the purchase. The really frustrating part was that I had to call several times over the past few weeks just to get the duplicate billing corrected. Pros: none this time Cons: poor customer service more

Quality no longer high 11/11/2005

I have been a long time customer of Ummelina, from the days when they were in a tiny spot on Pine Street. Sadly, the quality of services and the experience of staff has fallen off drastically. The last few times I went for services, I waited an intolerably long time before I was finally taken to my massage; when I asked what was taking so long staff was rude and dismissive. Turnover is so high that you rarely see the same therapist anymore. The space remains lovely but I'll no longer go where I'm treated so badly. Pros: lovely space Cons: rude staff, long waits, inexperienced staff more

wow 9/15/2005

Ummelina has provided me with the most relaxing and therapuetic treatments I have ever had. The staff and owner are fabulous! For a real spa experience you should definately try Ummelina. Natrual products, educated staff you can't go wrong! Pros: educated staff, caring staff, beautiful atomosphere more

relaxed and happy 4/28/2005

My treatment started with a soothing soak and a yummy foot massage. From there my therapist George showed me to the Monsoon shower and a hydrotherapy tub,the bubbles and the chakra lights blissed me out and invigorated me leaving me feeling tingley and relaxed at the same time. And then came the massage,it was excellent! George gave me one of the best deep tissue massage's I have ever had. It was slow and smooth working out all my knotted muscles I ended up back in the sanctuary where George brought me warm neck snugglie and a big glass of lemon water..... I didnt want to go home Pros: lovely surroundings, aromatherapey, great products more

Depends on the therapist... 4/13/2005

Ummelina had some really great therapists once upon a time, but due to poor management and low morale most of them have left. I was a patron of this spa long before they opened onto 4th ave. downtown, and I remember the great staff. However, its hard to say now because the employee turnover is so high- so your therapist may be very new at her profession or a disgruntled employee. The prices are too high to pay someone who doesn't know what they are doing- if you only knew the quality that used to be there. At times, the tension is so thick you can feel it in the air. The owner of this place has a grand vision, but she treats her employees like dirt and it is sometimes reflected in the service. I recommend asking for someone who's been there for a long time! Pros: Beautiful decor Cons: Poorly trained staff, High prices more

True In-City Oasis 3/1/2005

I love Ummelina! I have been coming here for massage and relaxation for years. Just the thought of the foot bath with hot tea in a comfy chair and dim lighting gets me ready for the next visit! Ummelina has been an underrated gem in Seattle! Pros: Foot Bath, Waiting/Relaxing Room, Variety Cons: Cost, Parking more

An enjoyable time 9/24/2004

I absolutely enjoyed the Half-Day Excursion when I was in Seattle last month for vacation. The staff was very attentive and the ambience was very relaxing. Amy is an excellent esthetician and provided very good tips for skin care. Kwame was warm and inviting and my feet definitely benefitted from his skilled care during the foot bath. I left feeling so refreshed and healthier if you will. The toxins couldn't escape my body soon enough! I definitely recommend Ummelina's to anyone in the Seattle area. Pros: weekend hours more

Average 7/27/2004

Downtown Seattle is a great place for a spa, but I wouldn't fully recommend Ummelina (unless you find city car and people noises just a floor above 4th Avenue relaxing.) The staff is young, hip, and tries hard to please. But their level of experience and professionalism is lacking. You will probably feel very pampered, but the actual massage techniques are more light and fluffy than effective and purposeful. Maybe it's just me, but my tight muscles were still feeling tight. Pros: Decor Cons: , Unknowledgable staff more

Unforgetable experience!! 7/19/2004

I visited Ummelina for the first time recently and had the most amzing experience. I arrivived from a hectic day at work and was immediately put at ease by the front desk staff. I didn't want to get out of my shower after the footbath. Meghann, my therapist, gave me an incredible massage and even showed me some stretches to do while I work to alleviate me tensions. I was suprised to feel "out of the city" even though I was in the heart of downtown. Thanks! I can't wait to come back. Pros: Massage, Organic tea, Front desk more

Best Spa in Seattle 6/30/2004

I've been a dedicated Ummelina customer for years and think Ummelina is the best spa in Seattle. In fact, it's always a sure conversation topic at parties - how fabulous the Ummelina experience is. My friends and family are all regular clients too. I just had an 'emergency' facial to help allieviate an unwelcome zit and felt inspired to post a review of the great experience. I was frankly shocked at the negative reviews -- I can't stress enough I've always had a great experience and their signature Revive Facial is THE BEST! The whole experience makes you feel healthy and fantastic! Pros: Foot Soak, Revive Facial, Free Parking more

Great Treatments! 10/2/2003

This spa is very busy on weekends, and appointments for groups should be planned far in advance. Very skilled massage, skin, and nail care therapists. Pros: Excellent Therapists!, Great Products! Cons: Very Booked more

Sara Rose!!! 9/23/2003

I go for Sara Rose and don't let the little, inevitable bothers such as occassional lateness or staff turnover interfere with my personal experience. Rose has a beautiful, relaxing touch and a breadth of knowledge that she willingly shares but does not force upon you if you just feel like being quiet. Sara Rose and a few of the other aestheticians have been at Umelina's for several years and have come to embody the Umelina spirit and message - natural ingredients and down to earth approach. Pros: Streak Free Tans, Reflexology, Client Education more

  • The Scene
Nina Ummel has gone to great lengths (and distances) to bring her clients a unique spa experience: hand-carved teak doors from Java; 27 exquisite teas from around the world; and the solarium, a quiet place reminiscent of a luxurious Eastern destination. Wicker chairs, flowing silk drapes and natural light diffused by bamboo blinds provide an exotic beginning to your "journey."

    The Services

Finally, enter a dry sauna where warm oils and muds are rubbed into your skin. The signature Revive facial employs an enzyme peel instead of traditional extractions for a gentler approach to deep pore cleansing.

    The Details
Whirlpool, soaking tub, steam room, dry sauna, waterfall shower. Massage, body treatments, wet treatments, acupuncture, facials, hair removal, sunless tanning, manicure/pedicure, full-service salon.
