never again!! 3/11/2016

I have had problems with the staff at the front desk several times resulting in a plan of care that was agreed upon. Every time I have walked in the building from the time the plan was established I have had higher charges and no communication prior to the appointment informing me of the increase. I will never bring my dog back to this place and I will be looking for every forum I can voice my problem about this establishment. Every time I saw the same female employee she had the same list of excuses she ran through to try to say I was wrong instead of trying to make me, the owner and paying customer happy and satisfied. My dogs weight should not be the first thing out of her mouth when A) you don't know his weight B) hes not sick. Use of different medications that cost more without consent from me, with the excuse each Vet DR can prescribe what ever they chose is a stupid excuse that was fixed by requesting only Dr Piver with care and medication. If I could rate it higher, I would. Both, Dr. Shannon Raboin and Kristen Raboin are the best. I have 3 dogs and 1 cat, now but I would not take my pets anywhere else, ever. Both of these Doctors go out of their way to take care of all my animals. I am reading all these other reviews and I cannot believe what I am reading. I had a dog that was very sick and his regular vet could not be bothered to listen to what I said about my dog. Dr. Shannon Raboin saw him in an emergency situation and was able to diagnosis him and was very concerned about me, my dog and my pocketbook. I recently had to put my 18 year old cat down and it was done very professionally, again by Dr. Shannon Raboin, after all the care he and Dr. Kristen Raboin had taken trying to save her. It was very nice the way they did what had to be done and presented her back to us when she was ready to be picked up and taken out of there for the last time. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!!!!! I was out of town and my dog got sick and I looked this up on the internet it was the closest to where I was staying. Not only did they charge me 101. for a vet just looking at my dog, but charged me 108.00 for services that were not performed. When they told me that they could not do anything for my dog, did not bother to do tests, they sent me to the NCS Vet Hospital (they are saints). When I got there we were so stressed that we gave them our creditcard and they took our dog, we were only there about 15-20 mintues, and they wanted us to put our dog down without even telling us what was wrong. We told them we were leaving and they gave us our creditcard back and the receipt for 209.00 dollars when we refused to sign for it they said; we have longer then your dog does, and you are not getting him back till you sign. This was late at night, and we had no choice. We filed with the creditcard company and they told them a bunch of lies................still waiting. more

Could Care Less About Peoples Pets - Its ALL About the $$$$$ 1/24/2013

I have been a client here for 15 years and this WAS an excellent place to go when Dr. Jackson was in charge. Since he has retired this vet clinic has done a complete downward spiral. In the last 2 yrs I am now on my 4th vet due to turn over. All the good ones left except Dr. Piver thank goodness. She is a kind caring person to the animals and their parents. She has the animal?s best interest at heart and I will not allow another vet to see my pets except her - no sniffs or tale wags about it. The Manager is rude and heartless! She needs to take some sort of sensitivity class or how to properly speak to people. The front staff are very nice people but they are forced to treat you like it's your first time their every time because of all the new rules / regulations which comes across as harsh, abrasive, insensitive and disturbing. No one there has any authority to do anything except the vets who buy the way don't call you when they say they are nor do they return phone calls. (ag more

Lack of compassion for animals...I called Quail Corners after a stray cat was hit by a car in front of our house. The cat was in very serious condition and crying out in pain. I called to ask if I could bring the cat in to have it put down. They told me there would be an exam fee and a fee for putting it down. I explained that this was a stray, not my cat and that I only wanted to do the humane thing because it was in pain. They told me that there was nothing they could do and could give me no other advice. I asked them to provide a name of another animal hospital that would provide this service and they told me that they did not know. I eventually found another hospital that had a Good Samaritan policy. I would never take my animal here. Beware of a vet that refuses to do the compassionate thing... more

do not go for an emergency! 5/14/2012

We took our dog to this facility for an emergency because she was attacked by a dog with a serious injury to her throat and puncture in her ear. We are grateful that they were able to help, however, feel as if we should have chose another place. when we got there during emergency hours, we were the only people there, so we were also seen right away, but the initial Vet that came into see Bristol basically told us that there was nothing she was going to do for us until the emergency Vet arrived. We given a quote which wasn't too unreasonable for Bristol's injuries and we agreed to charges and would be able to pick her up in a few hours. So far it had been a decent experience with this vet. when we picked up Bristol, we were told she had been stitched up and was ready to go as the tech put her collar on before we left. We were given Bristol's meds and paid our dues that came in under estimate. The following day Bristol(a chihuahua size dog) had a lump resembling the size of a soft ball hanging from her chin. Luckily we had a scheduled appt with her regular Vet that morning. Our regular Vet informed us that the antibiotics given to Bristol were NOT recommended for this type of wound and that putting the collar on was NOT a good idea(which I removed earlier in the day after seeing the softball). after proper care and medicines, Bristol was doing well, her infection dropped dramatically and cleared up the puss originally oozing from it, making it easy to see the gaping hole that quail corners left in her throat. When i called quail corners back to see if they could do anything about the hole because they were the ones who stitched her up, the girl who answered the phone wasn't listening to me. she was laughing at something in the background and was attempting to deny blame from there when I wasn't trying to blame them for anything. I asked her if they could do anything because Bristol has a hole in the middle of her neck and the stitches on her muscle tissue are showing and you can see in her throat, I was told they could but there would be a fee for an exam, putting her back under, and restitching. I have no problem paying, however, it wasn't done correctly in the first place apparently. Who leaves an open hole in a 7 month old puppy's throat? The vets at quail corners. more

Run to Another Clinic 3/9/2012

The vets who started this place have retired.Along with them went the care and compassion for both the pets and their owners. It does have a 24-hour operation if that's important. It was to me, and I stuck with it after an arrogant vet there didn't return my calls when my dogs was dying and the clinic lost his ashes. She and the person who lost the ashes are still there, so good luck. But I could not handle the changing array of young and relatively inexperienced vets. The last was super-aggressive and ran up unnecessary charges. She caused me anxiety and my dogs pain, and some of it was not needed. more

Impressed with compassionate, thorough care 8/16/2011

I am new to the area and took my cocker spaniel Dixie to Quail Corners when she started vomiting. We did not have an appointment but they were able to fit us in almost right away. We saw Dr. Davis who did a thorough exam and showed us how pale Dixie was. After some tests she told us that Dixie had a rare condition where her immune system was attacking her red blood cells. The doctor spent a long time with us explaining the disease.\r Even though we did not want to hospitalize Dixie we felt good about leaving her knowing the hospital was open 24 hours and someone would be watching her. The staff was always so accomodating and let us visit as many times as we wanted anytime of the day or night. Because of their excellent care, Dixie survived her condition even after needing a blood transfusion (which they were able to do!). We have been back for rechecks since that time and Dixie always wags her tail like she's happy to go in. We are so grateful to Dr. Davis and the staff at Quail Corners and truly recommend this hospital to everyone we meet. more

Bad Experience 7/26/2011

We've been patrons at Quail Corners since about 1978. Yesterday has probably been our last visit. We took all 3 cats in for wellness exams, immunization updates and one also for grooming. We waited a half hour past our appointment time before the vet showed up. After checking out the first two cats, the vet discovered a lump on our elder cat's throat, then walked out unexpectedly and didn't return. After another hour, we gathered up our cats and walked out. We paid our bill and went home. In thirty years of patronage at Quail Corners we've never been treated this way. As we were leaving the vet rushed out and said he had been dealing with emergencies. In the past, QC vets have found the time to come out, explain their situation and set up a new appointment. At the least, one of the assistants could have come into the room and given us an explanation and a choice to come back. This is not the Quail Corners Animal Hospital we've been used to I don't think we'll be back. more

Twice, Quail Corners put my dog's health at risk. 3/28/2011

Twice, Quail corners put my dog's health at risk. The first time was nearly fatal. They misdiagnosed him as having congestive heart failure, when in fact he has pulmonary hypertension. Their oxygen cages have no seals, which means oxygen levels inside cannot be accurately measured, and much of it is likely going to waste and out of your pocket. When he was obviously close to death, they called me at work to tell me to either come euthanize him or take him to NC State. I paid Quail Corners $1100 for that nonsense, and NC State (ALSO OPEN 24 HOURS) salvaged his life. That was 6 months ago. Because my dog has chronic bronchiectasis, he occasionally needs a tract of antibiotics, and its by no means uncommon or weird, very standard stuff. Tonight, I needed that routine antibiotic prescription for my dog filled after hours. NC State wrote the prescription, but couldn't fill it out because their pharmacy is closed at this time. I drove to Quail Corners knowing they were open 24 hours. Although they had the drug I needed in stock, and the prescription written only hours prior was valid, and the doctor at NC State was available by phone, and I stressed how my dog's immediate condition can worsen quickly, Quail Corners refused to fill the antibiotic and turned me away. They said they had a substitute doctor in that night, (who incidentally refused to show her face), and that they would not accept the liability, even though I told them I would gladly waive any/all liability if they would kindly fill out the prescription. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. NEVERMORE. more

Completely Unprofessional/Rude and Money-Oriented 3/16/2011

I cannot stress this enough: DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS TO THIS EMERGENCY VET. THEY WERE DISRESPECTFUL AND COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL TOWARDS ME AND MY VERY SICK DOG. I took my very sick 4 year old dog to Quail Corners last night. She had been violently stomach sick for over 2 days and I was worried about her dehydrating before this morning. The nurse took 10 minutes to get my dog's weight and temperature - a procedure that takes 2 minutes at my normal vet. The vet told me I needed to get my dog 2 shots, subq fluids and wanted to give me a prescription. As I already had a prescription for anti-diuretics and I felt the shots were unnecessary for a weeknight visit to the e-vet, I told her I just wanted the subq fluids to prevent further dehydration and that I would take my dog to her normal vet in the morning if necessary. After I revealed I would not be spending the $200 they were trying to coerce out of me, the nurse repeatedly slammed my exam room door every time she left it. My dog is a rescue and has been severely abused. I told the vet this just before they began treatment, so for the nurse to create loud, disturbing noises in the presence of my already sick and exhausted dog was completely unacceptable. As the nurses behavior was terse, but not rude before our discussion of money - I asked for a quote before treatment began - I can only assume that her attitude was entirely about me. She proceeded to insinuate that I was not behaving in the best interest of my dog and was openly judgmental and angry that I would not let her manipulate me into spending more money than necessary on my animal's treatment. I was unaware this was a commission-based business for nurses. I will be calling the facility today to formally complain to whomever I can. Note to anyone going there: GET A QUOTE BEFORE YOU ALLOW TREATMENT OF YOUR ANIMAL. THEY WILL NOT OFFER IT TO YOU, WHICH CAN RESULT IN PAYING EXORBITANT AMOUNTS FOR UNNECESSARY PROCEDURES. more

If you love your pets STAY AWAY 7/27/2010

If you are looking for Quail Corners to be your loving verterinary look elsewhere. They are now owned by NVA out of Augora Hills, California. We took our 4 month old puppy into emergency service for a very small piece of wicker stuck in her very bottom. Vet returned happy our puppy was fine.It was "easy". He was sending us home with some cream for her bottom as she had been sliding on it. 30 minutes later the vet returned with our puppy blood coming out of her nose and mouth and horrible breathing. We asked what happened and the vet got very angry and said "I don't know what happened back there but they put the muzzle on too tight and were giving her a simple bath.. Our puppy loved baths and played in a kiddy pool with our golden retrievers. She doesn't resist and for a ten lb. puppy how much RESTRAINT does it take. After talking with breeders we found they improperly used a headrestraint. Our puppy immediately went into an oxygen unit. Two hours later we are told we can't move her to the vet school because she needs oxygen. After spending the night with our loved little girl, the gaugess on the oxygen container "they don't believe are wroking correctly " because it is showing 88% humidity. They took fans to it but put her right back in.We couldn't even hold her. We called and asked for the vet who had been seeing our girl no speaking to us just didn't have any suggestions. She came in the next morning and told us she "felt really good about this and our little girl had an 80/20 chance".We have signed statements from the vets saying they caused the death of our puppy. Great thing that does for us!Our little girl died after sixteen hours, we wouldn't hold her and the crash cart was not set up to try and revive her. Do NOT let anyone take pet where you can not see them. Quail Corners Animal Hospital ...SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! Stay away from NVA hospitals they are only interested in profit and loss. VP of Operations is arrogant, emotionless, etc. Our puppy is dead and we have two letters signed by vets saying it was their fault that our puppy died! Pros: Great Adminstrator some good staff not much to say for PROs Cons: NOW A BIG CORP.NVA Profit only, Horrible SUPERVISION more

Superior in Care and Concern 3/22/2010

Quail Corners has been caring for my dogs since the early 1970's. Although I have moved and now live some distance away, their expert care and concern for all animals makes it worthwhile to travel the extra distance. And my Dobermans love to go there! They are greeted by name and receive cookies and kisses from the staff; they don't always remember my name but they remember the dog's name. Because of the care and advice of these excellent veterinarians, all my dobermans have lived several years beyond the average age for this breed. The vets have always explained the medical problems in terms that I can understand and they treat me as a partner in the care of my dog, discussing treatment options in terms of likelihood of success and in cost, which is definitely a concern for me. I have used their emergency service a number of times and feel that it is important to have the dog's medical records always available. In my opinion, a very important factor in judging someone's profess more

Awful experience would not recommend 3/2/2010

The weekend we were getting married in VA Beach our cat, Luna got a stomach bug so we decided it would be best for him to stay the weekend under vet care. They were to give him his meds and make sure he started getting food down.\r Mind you when we brought him in he had diarrhea and was vomiting and he did have bad kidneys. When we picked him up they said he was keeping food down and was fine. When we got home he couldn't walk. \r \r When we went back to Quail Corners the vet suggested we put the cat down. Wait a second, we had him there under your care, got the ok to bring him home and now we will need to put him down? After fluids and lots of love at home Luna lived a lively 6 more months. In the end I didn't appreciate the way the situation was handled and how our cat and our feelings were disrespected. They also had the audacity to bill us for the last visit! 20+ Year Customer 2/24/2010

I've been coming to Quail Corners Animal Hospital since the early '80s, and have never, ever once had a customer service problem. My animals, and my mother's animals, have always been well cared for. I've never had a negative experience there and will probably always be a customer. Pros: Consistently good service Cons: None that come to mind more
