My little 1 year old pit mix ate something she is not supposed to. We had gone and gotten quotes from two vets, called around for the best rate. My boyfriend came across this place, all of the other vet offices were trying to charge us 3,000-5,000 up front for the intrusive exploratory surgery of her intestine to get the ""toy/sock"" she ate that wouldn't come out. This place was wonderful, worked with our financial needs, so my Ellie could get the surgery she needed. They kept her over night and kept me updated with details. I have no idea why anyone would dis this place, it might be a little odd looking on the outside but on the inside they are all angels that saved my little girl. I thank you guys for doing such a good job. I plan to return if my dogs have any emergency needs. more

We recently had to have our elderly dog put down, which of course happened early in the morning before his regular vet was available. Not to mention his regular vet is some distance away and I wanted to end his suffering as soon as possible. The staff at Emerald City were extremely compassionate and helpful and their prices were actually less than I would have expected to pay at a larger emergency hospital. I hope we never have to go through this again, but if we do, I will be back. more

This emergency clinic is phenomenal. I wish my own doctors and my dog's regular vet was this excellent. My 10lb shih tzu had been throwing up all morning and I rushed her to the clinic. After several tests, they diagnosed possible ingestion of a foreign object needing surgery. But knowing my dog also had pre-existing kidney disease (so surgery would be more risky to her) they recommended keeping her overnight for observation in case the object was just a shadow on the x-ray. The following morning they concluded she would indeed need surgery. The vets were very communicative with me, explained clearly the risks and were obviously experienced with this type of emergency. Knowing they were experienced and the open lines of communication gave me trust and some relief that she was in capable hands. She went into surgery the next day and then had to stay a few more days with 24 hr care. The vets change every shift and I always got a call from the new vet on duty. I was amazed at how well coordinated they were, working in sync with each other, always on top of her recent care and status update. After we took her home, they taught us to syringe feed her and gave us a comprehensive schedule for her 7 medications. They were on call for every little question we had administering her medication from home. They did everything they could for her and she pulled through. She looks great now and is back to her old self. The vet techs were also excellent. Normally my dog hates the vet and panics. The clinic's environment is calm and drama free. Total bill for a week in the hospital plus surgery was about $6K but pet insurance took care of the majority. I know cost can be a huge barrier for treating your pet so definitely recommend creating a savings account for the deductible along with getting pet insurance. Having those resources made it a lot easier for the vets to do what they needed for her. You can tell that they always have the ""price"" conversation, which affects what they can do for your pet. Couldn't recommend them enough. more

I am here to update and eat crow. I was not too happy about the charge for my little dog's recent emergency for me, but not for the rest of the world, appt. I checked around a bit in righteous anger, and found out, that Emerald is very much on par with everyone else, if not better in the wallectomy. So I apologize for my tantrum and again recommend them highly. more

Our one year old Border terrier decided to chase a cat under the wheels of a car - the cat escaped but dog was rolled over by a car wheel. We went to Emerald City as the dog began deteriorating (wheezing, glassy eyed, incontinent). Over the next couple of days they took care of the dog through the critical period when it was not clear whether or not she would live or die. She lived, and in the end my impression was that although they were not coddling, they were honest, competent, professional, and communicative.â?? more

We recently (Aug 20-22) had a very scary experience with our cat LeRoy and the doctor's and staff at Emerald City Vet helped us out tremendously. LeRoy woke up Saturday morning blind and with loss of functionality in his legs. We immediately took him to Emerald City Emergency Clinic (closest place to our house) and as soon as we got there the staff took him back for an examination. Shortly after taking him back the doctor came to meet with us and explained exactly what was going on (blood clots/cardiomyopathy). She was honest and comforting at the same time as she could tell we were very concerned. After determining the necessary care procedure they showed us where LeRoy would be staying and encouraged us to call as often as we wanted to check in while he was staying. Every time we called we received detailed status updated. Saturday night we called and asked if we could come and visit LeRoy and bring him something that smelled like home to comfort him. The staff encouraged us to do so and let us go back and spend a few minutes visiting. We met with three doctors during LeRoy's 48 hours (the doctor at check-in and check-out, a night-time doctor, and a different doctor at his 24 hour mark), all were great help. We were extremely happy to take LeRoy home Monday morning. I would have no concern taking any animal to this emergency clinic and really appreciated all of their help during our nightmare. more

I cannot say enough about the kindness and professionalism of everyone we encountered at Emerald City. They kept us informed on our dog's condition, were very clear about prognosis and treatment options, and gave a comprehensive and accurate estimate. Beyond all that, they were patient and extremely personable. Our dog was there for 24 hours and all staff members got to know our pup and offered us kind words about him. While I hope we never have to go there again, I am so happy to know they are there if we need them. more

We came home to find one of our dachshunds with a swollen snout. In a panic state, I called our vet, Queen Anne Animal clinic. Since it was after hours, they referred us here. The staff was friendly, attentive and 45 mins later, we were on our way home. If ever an emergency arises, we will be there again. Fingers crossed we wont have to be though :) more

We brought our 15 year old girl (Queensland Heeler Mix) to Emerald City with the knowledge that it would most likely be her first and last visit. The short review is that the staff was incredibly kind and the vet was amazing through the whole process. If you want more detail, read on.When we got to the clinic my husband and I were allowed to carry our girl to the back room for weighing and to the examining table where they set here up immediately with oxygen to ease her breathing. We were also able to stay with her while vet was examining her. The vet was very sympathetic and clear about our options and the prices. We were never made to leave and only left on our own to discuss the next steps. After deciding that giving our girl a peaceful end was the best thing we could do for her we were allowed as much time as we wanted to say goodbye and to stay afterwards. Throughout all of it the vet was respectful and supportive and very clear about every step of the process.Price wise I found them quite fair...even compared to regular vet prices, and especially given they are an emergency vet. Reading some of the other negative reviews here on yelp I see a lot of complaints on the price from people with new kittens or puppies or people who have a hard time saying no (not their fault! but not the vets fault either! I blame pop culture ;) ). Word to the wise, emergency cares is always expensive and unless your pet is dying (as opposed to simply being in pain) it's worth asking what you can afford vs your pets actual need before taking them to an emergency vet.Back to the price - while we had no objection to their prices we happened to be broke when I went in. That is, we had $0 in my bank account but had just deposited a huge check that would more than cover the cost. That deposit had not yet gone through when we took our girl in. However, Emerald Cit was very accommodating and once it became apparent that no other options were available to us except to wait until the check cleared they got us set up so that they would not bill our account until the deposit cleared.Overall as good as an experience as one could expect during a difficult time. more

I was reading reviews on a couple of emergency vets because we needed to find something for our sick dog early this morning. I actually took our cat, Jimmy, to EC a couple of months ago and found quite the opposite experience as some of the negative posters so I was surprised and I felt the need to respond. Of course, I really think a vet is like any other business, it can depend on the day or the staff at the time, but we had a very positive experience. First, we had no choice at the time: our cat was at the Cat Clinic down the street and was having complications with a surgery. Since they were just about to close, the asked us to come get him and take him to EC. - They were all very friendly and very compassionate. - They were honest and upfront on the possible outcomes, explaining that there was a good chance he wouldn't make it. Note that the doctor said this in a very compassionate way where I've seen other vets state this all so clinically and ""matter of fact"" giving the impression they don't care - Jimmy was there for three days. I was pleasantly surprised by the updates. Certainly more frequent than any other vet we've seen. He called us at the times he had promised he'd call (once early morning and twice during the day) as well as other times throughout the day. - I didn't feel like they were trying to make me feel guilty. I've had this . more

Not sure a lot of these reviews understand how emergency vets work. They're for emergencies. Of course they're going to be expensive... Emergencies aren't cheap. They're open 24/7 for when your cat decides water is overrated and dehydrates himself until his pee becomes solid and obstructs his urethra on a Saturday night. Okay, anyway, my cat received fantastic care here. Yes it was crazy expensive, but they told me it would be... The end cost ended up right within the price range they presented me with when I signed the consent form. The vets and techs all told me what a sweet cat my Leo was during his treatment, and even if they say that about every cat, the sentiment was much appreciated. And the best thing about it is... He didn't die. Which he would have if we had to wait until regular clinics were open on Monday. If only animals could get sick between 9am and 5pm on weekdays. Then we wouldn't need an emergency vet. But until that happens, be thankful places like this exist, despite the high cost. If they weren't around, some of our furry friends wouldn't be, either. more

The vet I saw here for my dogs facial swelling was soooo great. They were very through and reassuring. He ended up needing a tooth extraction, which we went somewhere else for. But what this vet prescribed for gizmo helped him be comfortable until his extraction. I'm happy to have a place I trust close to home in case of emergencies. more

A few weeks ago, my beloved husky punctured my asthma inhaler. At first I thought he just chewed on it and was fine. But hours later, I found him lying down having violent muscle tremors -- he couldn't even stand up. In my complete panic, my boyfriend helped me rush him to Emerald City at ~11PM. He'd taken my little dog there for an eye injry and said they were fantastic. He was right. Unsurprisingly, they'd never had a case where a dog overdosed on asthma medication. But they snapped to action by getting info from Animal Poison Control and figuring out how to save my dog from having a heart attack. They immediately took his vitals and started monitoring him. I had to leave him there overnight so he could be on an IV to lower his heartrate and get critical electrolytes. By morning, he was back to normal - they'd save his life with the heart medication and potassium! The staff (especially Deondra) were very helpful and caring, and calmed me down every time I called to check in. I definitely recommend them. more

I lost my best friend on Thursday night. We came back from a nice dinner at Cactus and Cosmo didn't come downstairs to greet us. We thought it was a little odd but his hips have been giving him a hard time and at 13 he's slowed down a bit. We came up and found him in the bathroom just staring at the toilet. When my wife bumped into him he fell over and I got that sinking feeling. A few seconds later we got him to stand up but then he pooped all over the floor. We called Emerald City and got him in the car but we were pretty certain this was it. more

We had a good experience at ECEC with our dog (well, as good of an experience you can have when you are super worried about your dog). About 11pm on a week night I was just getting ready to fall asleep when our dog had some sort of weird siezure like thing. My husband and I panicked and we were in the car to the closest emergency clinic. I was a little nervous to let the staff take my dog off into a backroom but could deal with it since I assumed they were professionals. We waited for a long time. The vet (a very, very nice male vet) took us into a room and laid out the options for us. They hadn't found anything all that strange and offered us three options ranging from expensive (loads more tests), in the middle (some bloodwork and things) and cheap (take him home and watch). The vet also offered the option of our dog staying overnight at the vet clinic for observation. He didn't seem partial to any one solution and even left for a bit so we could discuss what we wanted to do. I didn't feel pressure or an sense of urgency to spend money. I decided to go with the middle plan and have some bloodwork done. The vet was more than happy to oblige. We hung out for another good chunk of time and waited. The bloodwork didn't turn up anything strange and he recommended that we check in with our regular vet later. I felt like the vet and the assistants took good care of my dog and would probably go back if our dog has any other emergency situations. more

We were a little nervous to go here because we'd seen some bad reviews on Yelp, but we had an emergency situation (when they say dogs should not eat chocolate, they really mean it!) and decided to try Emerald City because it was closest to our house. I was very pleased with the professionalism, care, and communication of all the staff, including the vet (Dr. Johnston). He knew just what to do, talked us through each step of decision making, and stayed in close communication with us the whole time our dog was there. more

Pet emergencies are scary and expensive, and it's hard to shop around for the best prices and service in a time of crisis. I do think Emerald City is on the expensive side, but I also think they are competent and trustworthy, and I would definitely refer others there, should the need arise more

My 20 year old cat had suffered a stroke the night before, and he was in bad shape. I was a wreck with grief, and we had no choice but to do the right thing and let him go in peace. The staff treated us with respect, and gave us all the time we needed to be with him at the end. They took just the right tone and made a very difficult event much easier on us.\r \r I hope that you never have to use their services, but if you do, I highly recommend them. more
