I love Thai food, but it can be so hard to find GOOD Thai food. Wild Ginger is one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to, because of the atmosphere as well as the food. Wild Ginger can be pretty busy sometimes – a testament to the quality of their food and service – but it’s worth the wait to request one of their booths, where you get to sit on the floor at a low table, amid cushions and low lighting. Eating delicious Thai food while in a traditional-feeling atmosphere is an experience you’ll never forget!

Some of you may remember the thrift store on Colfax with the great big giraffe at the front of the building, that was displaced in order to make room for the huge Wal-Mart that went in on the corner of Wadsworth and Colfax. I shopped at Unique Thrift Store years ago, and actually DID find that it was pretty unique, with treasures and prices that you don’t find at most thrift stores. Well, apparently the thrift store is still around, just in a different location: Arvada, to be exact. It was always a great thrift store, and I’m sure it’s just as good in its new location!

Built to look like Bent’s Fort, the restaurant serves traditional food of the Old West: elk, buffalo, and similar game animals, as well as dishes you won’t find elsewhere. The prices reflect the fine dining experience as well as the uniqueness of the restaurant, but believe me – it’s worth it! A night at The Fort will be an experience you’ll never forget!

Even local restaurants grow if they are worthy, and The Egg and I is an excellent example of that: they have a dozen or so small restaurants throughout Colorado. The one I went to was the one near the Denver Tech Center. Both times I went there, everything I ordered was excellent: my chai, the fruit and yogurt dish, and the omelet. Definitely recommended for anyone who likes breakfast foods!

During the warmer months, most of the shops in old Littleton participate in sidewalk sales on the weekends. During one of these sales, I browsed through the sidewalk display at the Andy Marquez Gallery. I was quite impressed with the artwork. The framed art is fantastic, but I was particularly attracted to a book of photographs of the “Old West,” which featured many remarkable black-and-white photos of still-standing artifacts of the Old West, such as buildings. The artwork in this gallery is well worth checking out!

The Szechuan Chinese Restaurant, located off of Sixth Avenue in Lakewood, is another good Chinese restaurant to try. The prices are a little bit higher than some of the places I go, but probably pretty average for good Chinese food; the atmosphere is also a little bit more refined. The food is very well made, and I would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone who enjoys good Chinese food. My favorite was the house wonton soup, which had some extra stuff in it that wonton soup doesn’t usually have.

I would call Symposium “light Greek.” The restaurant feels just like an American diner, like what Denny’s must have felt like to people thirty years ago: big, cushy booths, good sized table, airy aisles. The prices are comparable to restaurants in Denny’s league, too. The food is good, but the Greek selections seem too subtle to be authentic Greek food. The menu also includes a lot of American selections. Overall, though, it’s a good restaurant with good prices and a relaxed atmosphere.

The only time I’ve had Swing Thai was when a co-worker brought me take-out. Nevertheless, I was quite impressed with the food. I ordered pad Thai, my favorite Thai dish, and it was possibly one of the best pad Thais I’ve ever had! Swing Thai also has a second location, on Colorado Boulevard.

When I worked in DTC we’d order in on a regular basis. One of the places my boss liked to order from was Susie Wu’s, a local Chinese restaurant. We eventually refused to order from there anymore because the food wasn’t very good. I love sesame shrimp, and tend to order it practically anywhere, but Susie Wu’s sesame shrimp was the worst I’d ever had. There was just way too much batter on the shrimp, so that the dish was about two-thirds batter and only one-third shrimp. Their simpler dishes, such as lo mein, are average, but anything more complex just isn’t as good.

One of the best organic restaurant’s I’ve experienced is Sunflower, in Boulder. My boyfriend and I went there for brunch a month or two ago, and although I’m not generally into all the organic foods, I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty everything was – and how nice of an atmosphere the restaurant had. Sunflower really is quality food and service, and it’s perfect for vegetarians (like my boyfriend) or organic food nuts (like my sister), who can make dining out difficult at times.
