Diversity without pretension 12/26/2002

Eclectic, fun, never dull--the Nomad is my favorite hangout on the East Side. It has the perfect mix of casual ambiance and cultural diversity. The collection of strange and funny masks on the wall is a perfect example. They don't hit you over the head with 'diversity' like some places might. The lack of pretension also shows in the crowd the Nomad attracts. While it may be a little too casual for the fast-moving Martini crowd, just about anyone else will feel comfortable catching a match (real football when it's in season) or people watching from the back corner. The barstaff are generally pretty knowledgeable and friendly, although they were stumped when asked to make an obscure mixed drink (for which I can't really blame them). Stick to the wide assortment of ales from around the world or decently-priced top-shelf liquors and you will never be disappointed. more
