I bought an engagement ring and wedding band at Americus a couple of months ago. As background, I also visited Jewelry stores at La Cantera (helzburg and Tiffany).
Pros:
1. Outstanding selection - really the largest selection of engagement rings that you're going to find. I didn't realize how nice that was until we went to the smaller stores. It's organized smartly by metal (white gold, gold, platinum) then by style (solitaire, and the other kinds).
2. Sales people - When we first arrived we explained that we were just looking. I feel that sales people usually ignore if they don't think you'll be buying. It wasn't the case here though. Our sales person walked with us the entire 2.5 hours of our visit. Pulled out multiple (like more than 30) rings for my girlfriend to try on and the entire time was relaxed and not pushy. After working with us and seeing what rings we liked, she was able to anticipate and offer suggestions. I didn't feel like I was getting the hard sale or trying to be upsold. In contrast at a couple of other stores, I kept getting the used car salesmen vibe which I hate.
Even after I went back to buy the ring, I asked if I should upgrade the side stones. She told me they were plenty shiny and I don't need to upgrade. It was nice to hear that when you're nervous about to make a big purchase and hope you're buying something nice enough.
Anyway, she explained the 4C's of diamonds (maybe there's 5, I don't remember) and did not try to pressure the most expensive thing on us.
To address the review where they complained about incorrect info on the card....they write the information down right in front of you as you pick out which ring you would like. All I can say is that all my information was correct. The rings have serial numbers that they go by so it helps to just actually show up and point out the ring or know the serial number of the one you want if you're going to call in. It's not like you can call and say, please set aside the shiny one with diamonds that I looked at.
Anyway, I went back later by myself and bought the engagement ring and wedding band. I'm living overseas now so they are keeping it in the safe for free and safekeeping until I'm able to come back. I plan on buying the center diamond later to have it set.
Cons:
Really the only cons I saw is that you have to send your ring in every 6 months for cleaning and maintenance in order to keep your warranty current. You get a freebie grace period if you're late on that 6 months. Really not a big deal if you live in San Antonio, but a little difficult if you don't.
Also, if you buy your center diamond somewhere else then they don't warranty the setting and all. Their prices for diamonds were very competitive so I don't see any reason to buy from a different store and not take the warranty in my case.
Also, just had to address one more thing in the other persons review. I work in medicine and have to deal with the "customer service" side of things with pushy patients and parents. When you are rude to people, it gives them less incentive to be nice to you. After the store explained the policy of not making bands with outside stones the other reviewer gave this response:
"So that was approved by the manager after some arm twisting and loud complaining."
Loud Complaining - Loud complaining about a policy that is already in place is a little ridiculous in a jewelry store in my opinion. Especially before you've even bought the rings. If you wanted something like that, just go somewhere else. Anyway, she still bought her ring there....so...yeah.
Ok, that's all I got. I had a really good experience, had read these reviews before I went and thought I would contribute. I have no affiliation with Americus, I'm in the military, lived in San Antonio for 3 years and now I'm overseas.
Pros: Huge selection, No pressures sales people
Cons: Warranty slightly restrictive

This is a great resale shop for children. They expanded their location. If you want gently used clothing, this is the place to get the clothes. They have been in business a long time. The ‘good’ stuff goes fast, so Saturday afternoons is not to time to shop. However, since they are always getting new merchandise, keep looking! They also sell other kid-related items (cribs, changing tables, etc).

Our great dane has been hospitalized 3 days now with a severe case of phenomia. Thank goodness he has responded well to the oxygen and IV antibiotics and did not have to be asperated. The prognosis is good and we are hoping to pick him up on Monday..It is believed he contracted this while boarding. I have contacted the owner Caryl at Rob Carey Pet Resort and she was very understanding and concerned. She is going to speak with my vet regarding the type of cleaner they use in the facility to make sure that what they use will fight off any bacteria.
I will keep you posted!

Malibu Castle is a great place to take the family. They have two different mini golf courses so you can switch it up every time you go there. They also have bumper boats, go karts, batting cages, and an arcade. Its usually pretty busy on weekends so I suggest going on weekdays instead. Go if you're looking for a good time with the family.

The Humane society of Bexar County is a great place to go to get a new pet. They have both cats and dogs of all breeds and sizes. Some are full grown and others are just kittens and puppies. They let you take the dogs for a walk or take them into small rooms to just play with them and spend a little time helping you decide. The staff there is very friendly and helpful. You can adopt an animal for a reasonable price.

This place is a huge carpet and rug dealer than is located just between a jewlry store and a Krispy Kreme. I always pass by it on my way back home from the mall so one day I just went in to look around. They had a huge, huge selection of rugs. Also, you should know that place has a distinctive odor when you walk in. I guess that's a good sign telling me the rugs are pretty authentic but I'm not sure as I am not an expert in rugs. I was amazed at the prices of some of them as they reached the several hundred dollar mark. The employee was very kind and showed us around and answered all of my questions. I didn't get anything but I know where to get a rug when I do need one!

I have been in this shop once and will not go again. I am very knowledgable about my own pets and lots of other animals, however I was treated as though I was completely ignorant. The first person who helped me was the owner of the store. He proceeded to tell me everything I "needed" for my pet turtle and inform me of his personal opinion of me owning a small sized turtle. I happen to be a teacher and me owning this turtle is completely legal within the state laws. When he realized that I would not cave to his criticism, he rolled his eyes and sighed and passed me off to another employee. I will never set foot in this store again and will deter anyone I can from doing business with them.

I stayed at the Menger Hotel this weekend for the first time.
ABOUT THE PLACE: Constructed in 1859, the hotel is across the street from the Alamo.Such diverse personalities as Theodore Roosevelt, Sidney Lanier, Babe Ruth, Mae West, Robert E. Lee, and Ulysses S. Grant stayed at the Menger.
While it has the feel of a boutique hotel, there are actually 316 rooms. The lobby is elegantly furnished with many antiques. The many historical artifacts give the place a somewhat "museum" feel.
The Menger Bar was built in 1887 and is a replica of House of Lords Pub in London. The architect, who was sent to England to examine the pub, installed a paneled ceiling of cherry wood, booths and beveled mirrors from France, and decorated glass cabinets. It was in this bar that Teddy Roosevelt recruited many of his Rough Riders, volunteers for the American volunteer Cavalry in the Spanish-American war.
ABOUT THE STAY: Check-in was efficient. My room was rather small but adequately clean and adequately equipped with a desk and Ethernet connection. Unfortunately the Ethernet connection did not work but I was able to repair the problem (lack of power to the router) before the engineer arrived. Even though the room overlooked a street, it was not noisy at night. Checkout was as easy as check-in. Staff were polite and helpful.
OVERALL: An interesting alternative to typical business hotels. I would stay there again.
