Lived in Hawaii and was there when Alan Wong's opened. It is without a doubt the best of the best. There are so many things that we liked about the restaurant. Its out of the way place, its definitely different, its upstairs in a building that you would not think a restaurant is in. When you make your reservations they take your name and when you are seated the person who seats you and your waiter from then on uses your name. its like you have been coming there forever. The Manager stops by and ask how things are going. There is usually a "special treat" from Alan, maybe its just a juice drink, or a small appetizer, and that is also followed up by a dessert piece of something at the end. The rolls are delicious, finish one, and the roll boy is there again; the water glass is never empty. My favorite is when the person brings you meal and explains everything on it, rather than some places that when someone brings you the plate they have to ask you what you ordered. The waiters don't start as waiters, they start as the bus boys and work their way up, the learn how to be a waiter and all the different kinds of food that are prepared. When you go to AW's you are treated as someone who has been coming for years, even if it is you first trip there. Yes it crowded, most great restaurants are. And the awards won by AW is overwhelming. And the best part is that AW is usually there. There are some restaurants that the owner, top chef are rarely there.
Pros: Top food, top service, top restaurant.
Cons: Hard to get reservations

This place has one of the best breakfasts in Waikiki. The staff knows this and can be short at times. Don't let it bother you, just tell them what you want and they will get it. Portions are more than enough and prices are reasonable for the area. The place does fill up with international tourists, so be patient with the different surroundings. The fresh juices are AMAZING!!! The hours are great too, after drinks at the club there is definitely no better place to go.
Pros: great food, good location, good hours
Cons: service, parking

Our family enjoyed a wonderful breakfast while dining in the remarkable setting of this restuarant. We had a reservation for breakfast that we were almost late for by half an hour due to traffic. The host was very understanding and when he realized how far we had come he asked us if we would like to wait a few more minutes for a beach side table.... which we did. The breakfast was wonderful. Great pancakes with coconut syrup that the kids enjoyed and the best eggs benadict that I have ever had. Although the traditional eggs benedict is offered I opted for the poached salmon on a cheddar dill scone version instead. It was heaven. My husband had a seafood omlet that he also enjoyed. It took us a bit to get our check at the end of the meal, but nothing that I would have let alter a great breakfast experience. I would highly recommend this restuarant, for the food, as well as the view.

We found Side Street Inn through a mention in Gourmet Magazine! Great food, huge portions so best to order family style. Don't miss the poke, fried rice and fried pork chops. The salads are good, too. They've added valet parking at dinnertime which makes access super easy. It gets very crowded at night so call for reservations if you can, otherwise try to find a seat at the bar for drinks and pupu while you wait. Keep your eyes out for big-time chefs like Alan Wong, who visit Side Street for some local comfort food.

If you like Japanese and Italian food then this restaurant is for you! An awesome blend of pastas with Asian sauces; pizzas & salads! My favorite is the tri-mushroom pasta....button, enoki and shiitake mushrooms in a shoyu/garlic sauce with friend onions on top. My husband and daughter also have their own favorites!
As another reviewer mentioned try their raw potato salad! You can ask to sample all of their salad dressings which are also available for sale.
Free parking in the building.
One of my all-time favorite restaurants!

On a budget? Want great food at awesome prices? Well Wailana Coffee House is just the place. There have been many a days when the budget was tight but I wanted a great meal and this is where I go. They have great hamburgers and dinners. The salisbury steak is ono. And the breakfasts are some of the best. Try the waffles.

Sunday brunch is a blend of east/west and hot/cold foods. Great place for special occasions or to impress out of town guests. If you want to impress people, ask for an ocean view table.
Pricey but I've been to more expensive places that fell far short of Halekulani's Orchids.
Come hungry, leave full.
Pros: Ocean View

Murphy's makes me proud to be a neighbor. I cannot imagine living in another city because Muprhy's is a one of a kind place. The proprietors keep the place homey, spotless and warm. Whether they are having an event for St Patrick's day or the annual Pigskin Pigout for the University of Hawaii Athletic Department, the heart of Murphy's shines through. I always know when I walk into Murphy's I will get smiles, great food and great ambience. Cheers should have been filmed here at Murphy's because they could have just rolled the cameras. Murphy's, as we say in Hawaii is simply "no ka oi." If I was ever interested in owning this kind of business, I would mimic EVERY aspect of this operation and steal their ideas shamelessly. I just don't know how you can get people to care so much.
Pros: Ambience, Service, Inexpensive
