Best

the taste here is special. Crazy place, almost serve yourself. But it is good food here!

Worst

Some ppl say that their chicken was really good, but I'd say that the chicken tastes very cheap. The price is very resonable, but I didn't like their lousy service. Pros: PRICE

best value leader 10/1/2002

Definitely one of the best foods for the dollar in LA. I get togo from here at least once a week. Tarna (chicken) sandwiches in pita are the ultimate. A very satisfying delicious meal for 3.99 - you can't beat the taste and satisfaction for this price anywhere! Even though the place itself is crummier looking than it needs to be - these guys must make a fortune - i'll even eat there if I have to. more

Average place 9/28/2002

This place is an average place to eat in. Not the best, and not to worst place. Their chicken does taste pretty good, but there's nothing else to eat it with besides the sauce. more

Great Food, Service Sucks 9/7/2002

Amazing - the place has awesome food but don't expect polite service. The girls behind the counter can dish some attitude. I asked for extra sauce and one just looked at me with a blank look and didn't move. I repeated myself and she sighed and put it on the counter and turned around to do something else without even acknowledging me. Great chicken shawerma though! Get it to go - otherwise you'll have to sit under flourescent lights and a bad strip mall atmosphere. Pros: food Cons: service, atmosphere, parking more

finger lickin' awesome 8/24/2002

best chicken you'll ever eat. smother it in the garlic spread they give you and it's that much better...be sure to ask the cashier for extra garlic (but expect to pay extra for it) cuz one serving is never enough. more

Where's the rice? 8/20/2002

I didn't try the rotisserie chicken, but the shish tavouk was okay. Stick to the rotisserie chicken instead. The hummus and tabouleh were delicious. This is a good alternative to Sunnin, although Sunnin is better overall and just a little more expensive. Pros: good portions, crazy people Cons: no rice more

Cheap AND good. 7/23/2002

Zankou predates any of those rotisserie chicken joints, and it still beats them for a reliably delicious, cheap meal. After years of enjoying the chicken, I tried the shawarma, and I'm now hooked on that. There should be one on the Westside!! Pros: Reliable, consistent, Great value, Inexpensive more

GREAT Chicken 6/20/2002

Love the chicken at Zancou! Fresh, flavorful, hot and spicy (garlic paste). The prices are very inexpensive, the service is fast and friendly and overall the menu items we samples were great. I would strongly suggest chicken lovers try this place as we feel they are much better than Pollo Loco, Popeye's, KFC and all the rest. Try Zankou's chicken, you will not be disappointed. Pros: Food, Service more

Try their Glendale location 6/6/2002

No doubt about it: Zankou is the grilled chicken king, although the birds tend to be fairly fatty. There are big differences from location to location, however, and the Hollywood location suffers from two gals at the front counter who make standing in line a frequently longer experience than eating the meal. They're painfully slow to begin with -- despite the lines, Zankou never opens their second register at the same time -- and when they get into extended conversations you can forget placing your order until they've finished. It's so bad that people in line start laughing about it; it's sort of like being in the SNL skit, ""Cheeseburger, Cheesburger."" The Glendale location serves more people, faster, and it's still a one-register-at-a-time operation. Parking at both is unifomrly miserable. Pros: Great chicken, Excellent value Cons: Interminable lines, Miserable parking more
