Best

the taste here is special. Crazy place, almost serve yourself. But it is good food here!

Worst

Some ppl say that their chicken was really good, but I'd say that the chicken tastes very cheap. The price is very resonable, but I didn't like their lousy service. Pros: PRICE

Heaven on a Spit 6/13/2005

The roast chicken is delicious. It's flavorful crispy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. The garlic sauce they give you is divine. The rest of the food is just so-so. The interior design is outdated and kind of ghetto. Pros: Chicken, Garlic Sauce Cons: Ambience more

GREAT QUICK FOOD ""NOT CHEAP"" 6/1/2005

Everytime my wife and I go I am reminded by the news articles on the wall that this is considered a ""cheap eats"" resaturant, however, everytime I leave I have $30 less in my wallet. Don't get me wrong, their Shish-Kabab, Shawarma, Chicken & Garlic Sauce are the BEST (believe all the rave reviews) and I do not mind paying any amount for great food, but you don't have to call it ""cheap"". ""Cheap"" is Del Taco. You get what you pay for and Zankou is worth every penny! I like to take my time in picking up my order to hear the grouchy Armenian girls start screaming my ""number"" is ready. Pros: GREAT FOOD, GREAT TASTES, PEOPLE WATCHING Cons: PARKING, SERVICE, BUMS IN PARKING LOT more

Ode to Garlic Sauce 3/6/2005

The garlic sauce here is a thing of legend, and for good reason. It rocks. Get the chicken schwarma (tarna) sandwich. I know some people prefer the whole chickens, but I think they can be dry. The schwarma is so juicy and delicious, and with the sandwich, they put it together for you (with chopped tomatoes too), and it's so good. Be careful if you try and eat it in your car though, because it can be very messy. I don't usually eat these onsite because it's so crowded and bright. If you haven't been in the last couple years, then know that they have expanded to about twice the size it was in 99. Pros: delicious, cheap, garlicky Cons: parking is bad, too bringt inside, smell can linger more

The chicken is, like,...Dang! 1/28/2005

The first time I ate at Zankou, I thought it was comparable with another Chicken Restaurant of Latino origin (!) but Zankou's got somthin' extra goin on with theirs. It's crazy moist and tender!!! Product inconsistency: It drives me crazy about restaurants. But at Zankou, the food is delicious all the time! Favorites: white meat half chicken plate, and the falafel plate. The hummus and pita bread with that tomato medley that comes with it? Wow. That takes it up to a whole 'nother level. But the thang is in the GARLIC SAUCE!!!! Whoo...lots and lots of GARLIC SAUCE!!! Recommend: Bring Altoids if you intend to talk to anyone afterward, because your breath will be humming really bad! Complaint: PARKING! Omygosh...there's like nowhere to park there sometimes...Which is bad if you snuck out of your job for lunch and you're trying to get back before somebody comes notices you're gone. more

My Favorite Chicken in LA 6/22/2004

I've been to many a chicken joint in LA and Zankou is by far my favorite. First of all the service is super-fast. Sometimes you have to wait in line, but once you place your order, your food arrives within minutes (sometimes seconds). Secondly the food is terrific. I always eat the half chicken plate when I go to Zankou. It comes with half of a chicken, humus, Armenian pickles, pita, and a very tasteful garlic sauce. The chicken is fantastic! Lastly, the people there have always been very friendly and personable. If you're looking for some fast, good food check out Zankou. Pros: great food, inexpensive, fast more

Too good! 5/25/2004

I was turned on to Zankou by my father, and I introduced it to the rest of my family, who LOVED it. My fiancee refused to eat there until I forced her to, and now she loves it! Its gotten to the point where she asks me if we can go there. Im not a fan of the chicken, but the beef shawerma is to die for. I wouldnt recommend this for someone who expects a neat meal, but the service at the anaheim location is unbelievable, it's fast food with tons more quality. Bottom line, this is the best restaraunt I've ever eaten at. EVER. more

Great Chicken 2/13/2004

I've been eating Zankou Chicken for years. These folks had it right before Boston Market & Koo Koo Roo existed. They keep it simple, straight & good. Always served hot & the garlic sauce is fabulous. They do it right. Pros: Hard Chicken, Great Garlic sauce, Price more

SOOOOO Goood 10/8/2003

Whats everyone talking about below?? I get the Chicken Kabob (Shish Tavouk), my husband gets the Shawrma. The hummus, the pickles, the pita and especially the garlic mayo that accompanies, I'm lickin' my fingers. Fresh and delish in a hole in the wall. I do agree, cheap eats?? not really. 2 dishes, no drinks $20. But 2 can def share 1 dish. more
