Great Wine and Appetizers 7/16/2008

This is a cool spot for after work drinks and appetizers. Great location, close to everything. \r \r Last week, I was at the Farmers Market and after we made it through the crowds, my girlfriend and I just wanted a quiet spot to enjoy the day. We wandered over to the Wine Bar and it was great. During the week, it can get crowded but on the weekend, our waitress told us the work crowd is gone and they rarely are crowded. Plus parking is free with validation on the weekend\r \r For us, great service, great wine and a nice cheese platter was a perfect mid day treat. I definitely will be back. Pros: Great location, good service, wine and appetizers more

Great Atmosphere, went there over the weekend 3/26/2008

My girlfriend and I ended up going to Wine Bar over the weekend before we went to the movies nearby. The service was great and plenty of wines to choose from. It's a great place for a Saturday afternoon.\r \r Pros: Ambience Cons: Parking more

Great new place for after work drinks 2/6/2008

My boyfriend and I had one of our first dates there and we loved the service and wine selection. We sat at the bar and had a great cheese platter with a recommended wine that was great. This is a perfect place to go after work for drinks with friends or coworkers, and it's conveniently located. more

Good wine, bad service, loud atmosphere 12/10/2007

My friends and I went to the Wine Bar looking for a nice evening of sampling a few wines and catching up. The wines were good....when we could get served. After the first glass we had to track a waitress down. At one point I went up and ordered from the bar. The design of the space amplifies all noises, so in order to catch up we had to yell at each other. They had a nice selection of cheeses and meats, but no fruit. When drinking wine I prefer my cheese on sliced fruit rather than bread. And for those counting carbs bread is a no-no. All in all it's not a place I would go back to for after dinner drinks. If I need a special bottle of wine I'll stop by the shop. Pros: Good wine Cons: Poor service, loud atmosphere, limited menu more

Good Wine, Horrible Service 8/8/2007

I waited to write a review after visiting three times. Each time, it was if the servers and the manager were more interested in speaking and carrying on with each other than to paying attention to customers. It's a shame, because this location is perfect for people who work in the financial district, and the wine and cheese selections are always great. The poor service, however, make these facts null. My friends, co-workers and I will be sipping vino elsewhere from now on. Pros: location Cons: service more

Not So Great for Vino or attitude 7/14/2007

This place was cool...get that WAS Cool...I wrote a glowing review last summer---see below for the retraction\r \r Let's start with the music...They must have new management here (more on that later) and it comes shining through in the music. Either these people are stuck in 1989-92 or they are seriously depressed, either way the terrible tunes drove me away one night. I am there to lighten up--not be brought down by Radiohead or Morrissey on a Friday night. Jeez Lighten up Francis...\r \r There appears to be a new owner (or at least someone in what seems to be the same suit everytime I go in) my party has had encounters with him on 4 occasions and to describe it in a word SMUG,---Dude bring that attitude back to LA---and not the good witty smug, but the ""I am so much cooler than you smug"". \r \r This guy also seems to be obsessed with everyone's seating--every time we have been in he has tried to either move us or hoverd so close we felt uncomfortable. Clearly this guy has no experience in running a small bar--and it shows. Again the attitude of an LA club Manager has no place where you are charging $20 for a glass of Pinot and $17 for three pieces of cheese, if im going to get that attitude at least put on some upbeat music. This place feels like a wake now, if at the wake we spent a lot of money on midling wine while being looked down upon, then asked to come again. \r \r There clearly has been staff turnover and it shows....The service was never great here but at least the staff was nice and even joked with you about it. Now with the exception of one or two---the staff is smug and kind of laughs in your face when you say you have been waiting a long time.\r \r It's a shame this place has changed so much, it used to be fun, now I leave with less money and wondering if I am cool enough to go spend $20 for a glass of wine. The music has to go---and so do I\r \r I will not be returning, I will go to Aqua instead, better list, better service, and a much better attitude. Pros: Location Cons: management more

good potential 11/21/2006

I went here with an old friend to catch up after work. The decor was nice and they had plenty of nice wine to choose from but we were both very disappointed with the lack of service. Sitting at the bar for over 10 minutes before being asked if we needed help or would like to order. We had to flag people down for each order and to ask for more and the place was nearly empty. The wait staff is very good at acting busy at all times even when they're not waiting on anyone. Other than the it was a nice place in a good location for right after work. Pros: location and atmosphere Cons: staff, service, pric more

Nice place to catch up with friends 9/13/2006

We went to Wine on a mid-week evening after work and it wasn't busy at all. We loved the extensive wine menu and accompanying food selection, although the food was a little pricey and bordering on obnoxious for what was on offer.\r We ordered a couple of glasses of wine, which seemed better than ordering by the bottle. They apparently charge corkage ($12) on wines that are sold on the premises, which seemed a little odd to me.\r The atmospehere is very pleasant and a it was a perfect place to chat and not be disturbed by anyone.....including the servers, who always seemed incredibly busy, despite having no more than 10 people in the place! Getting any kind of attention from the servers was next to impossible......and we were sitting at the bar! \r Despite all that, I would probably go back.... Pros: Ambience Cons: Staff more

great locale, not so great on value 3/25/2006

a welcome addition to the west end financial district. bar staff is very laid back and attentitve. cool ambience with mixed crowd. great variety of flites/tastings. my two issues - corkage fee ($12) which adds up real quik after a few bottles and the bread & cheese plates which are ok but over-priced for the plate quantity. more
