Urban Waxx

I see Beth regularly for brazilians and every time I wait for the "painful part", but it never comes! Before I know it she's all done and cleaning up the loose ends - she's meticulous, and I've yet to come home and find a stray hair. Her friendly and relaxing demeanor takes any awkwardness out of the situation (and believe me, I've had some awkward brazilians elsewhere....) and her skill and the high quality products at Urban Waxx take care of the rest. She also gives great advice on avoiding ingrowns, which I'm prone to. If I'd known about Beth earlier I'd have been "going bare" on a regular basis a lot sooner! The first time I went to Urban Waxx was when Shannon had her own studio. This was back in May of 2007. She did some work for me a couple days before I left for Hawaii and have raved about her ever since. When the new location was open I started seeing Brooke for brazillians and have gone ever since (well, maybe not since I've been needing to cancel and reschedule because of my crazy schedule). The staff is great and very understanding whenever I need to reschedule. At other salons, I get nothing but a poor, snotty attitude when this happens but not at Urban Waxx. Brooke does such a great job and easy to talk to. I usually make my appointments on Fridays right after work so the glass of wine is such a nice touch and great way to start the weekend. It's also very easy for me to drive down there since it's about a 15 minute drive from my work. The only con? The parking. I'm terrible at parallel parking but I don't blame it on the staff at all but on my own inabilities to drive a car right... But I recommend this place to any and everyone! Pros: wine, service, appointments always on time, EVERYTHING Cons: parking (but this doesn't interfere with the service you get!!!) more

That pretty much sums it up. Next time I spend $70 + I think I'd like a more thorough job. No fun coming home and realizing you have patches of unwaxed hair. I actually went there twice. The first time wasn't too bad. Just sparse hairs here and there. I should have learned my lesson! Second time was a different girl and she took WAY longer (it had only been a month since my last one so I don't know why) and somehow managed to do an even worse job than the first time. Needless to say, I'll be going somewhere else. more

From the moment you walk in the door you are welcomed with smiling faces and lovely decor. Expectations continue to be exceeded once you begin your treatment. Every esthetician uses the highest quality professional products that I have experienced, and the atmosphere is amazingly comfortable. Are you a first timer to waxing? Have a complimentary glass of wine to relax. You certainly won't be stressing over the prices! This upscale downtown salon miraculously maintains rates that less trendy places in the suburbs couldn't beat. I have gone to several waxing salons, and I can say with complete honesty that Shannon has turned Urban Waxx into Portland's Must See salon. I highly recommend making a reservation today! I had always found the bare look extremely appealing, but didn't want to deal with the pain, discomfort, or aftermath (read possible burns, infection, ingrown hairs) that can be associated with waxing. Little did I know, all my worries were in vain! As for pain, the worst of it was akin to ripping off a small band-aid that had been left on for too many days, seriously. There were more AH moments, due to shock and anticipation, but never any OWIES, and no more than 1 hour after, the redness was gone and there was absolutely no residual soreness! Plus, I have had only one pain-less ingrown hair since. I attribute all this to the extensive knowledge and skill of the ladies at Urban, along with the type of wax used. Urban keeps up-to-date in the industry with their products and techniques, and for the Brazilian, hard wax as opposed to soft, strip wax, is definitely the way to go! I've gone twice, now, and both times the vibe has been very warm and inviting. If you're nervous, the ladies are wonderful at putting you to ease - talking to you throughout the entire process (which only takes about fifteen minutes)! The first time is a bit pricey in my opinion, but if you return within six weeks for a maintenance wax, it's definitely affordable. Pros: an all-around awesome experience Cons: I'm now addicted to being hairless...and location is a bit inconvenient for me more

After reading all the great reviews on Citysearch for Urban Waxx, I decided to give them a shot and went in for a Brazilian with Mindy this morning. I have had Brazilians before, but they were never a very good experience, and definitely not something I would write a review about. Of course, it wasn't pain-free, but it was the LEAST painful and BEST experience I have had getting waxed. Mindy was super quick too! I was out of the salon in about 20 minutes! She was also great to chat with and made me feel completely comfortable. The place is super cute as well and the receptionist was very welcoming. I will definitely be coming back and have already recommended this place to many of my friends! Thanks for such a great experience. You guys rock! I went in thinking I would just do my eyebrows and a bikini wax, but I ended up getting a full Brazilian because I felt so comfortable and easy with Brooke. She kept me laughing the whole time and explained to me the differences in the wax they use - why they are both gentle and effective. It was not nearly as painful as my waxes in the past, and I will definitely be going back to see her for my maintenance. I would definitely recommend Brooke to anybody thinking of getting waxed. She is funny, thorough and sweet. Pros: Friendly staff, awesome atmosphere, great waxing skills! Cons: None more

I went in to see Mindy yesterday and she was absolutely fabulous. I have not had a Brazilian in a few years so it always takes a moment to gear up before you walk through the door, but it is so worth it. I was offered some great Jasmine tea and met with Mindy. I had my brows done first and then onto the Brazilian. I have fair skin and the brows were done perfectly--no burning or red marks afterwards were much appreciated. We all know Brazilians are not going to be pain-free, but this was as near to that as one can get. The hard wax they use is so much better than strips and if one has never had hard wax, you will not want to go back ever! She is quick and very personable and it is obvious that she loves what she does. When I left there 30 minutes later (that included my brows and paying so this really is quick) I could not believe how great I felt. Usually, one knows that the rest of the day is pretty much shot as it aches and burns down there, but I had no residual pain when I left there. I was most shocked and pleased by this result because the worse part of the Brazilian is the "after effect" in addition to any pain you experience during the actual session. This is as close to a pain-free experience all around that one can get when trying to go bare down there. I wanted to recommend Mindy's talents so much, that I created an account on Citysearch today so I could leave this review. I have my appointment to go back in 4 weeks and I have zero worries and know that this is the best place to be at. Thank you so much for creating this great place and for finding Mndy. I have no doubt that everyone there is great so check out this place and you will not be disappointed. I just got waxed by Junlene. I was so,so nervous because I hadn't done it before. Julene did a great job at making me comfortable. It wasn't awkward like I thought it would be, and it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. Tonight I even went on a run after having it done this afternoon. I thought I would have to crawl back into bed for the day to recover. I highly recommend Julene. She will make you feel really cool about the experience. Pros: the front desk and other waxers were all friendly. They also have a nice waiting area. Cons: waxing does hurt, but it's only for a few seconds. more

I went to Urban Waxx after having a bad experience elsewhere. I saw Heather for a brazillian and hands down it was the best wax I have ever had. They use great wax that makes it a lot less painful than strips that are ripped off. The shop is cute,the staff is very friendly, and Heather gave me a great wax. the results far surpassed what I thought they would. Already made my next appointment, and I reccommend anyone who needs waxing to do the same. Pros: Price is great and Heather is amazing at her job. Cons: None more
