Great Salon, Reasonably priced & Great employees! 6/23/2009

I have been going to this salon since I started working in center city about 8 years ago. I will never go to anyone else. The staff is fun and full of energy. I feel like I am among friends. I feel that the prices here are reasonable. Go check out other places and you will see. As far as the staff being able to provide style for people of color, I have never seen a problem here. There are hair stylist for all. I recommend this salon and give it the best rating! Pros: Convenient for me - I work in Center City Cons: NONE that I found more

perfect for me!!! 6/13/2008

I went to Tim's from a friend's suggestion. She has been going to Marc for 15 years or so. My stylist just left town, and I always liked my friend's hair. Marc was professional, talented, and very well spoken. My experience at the salon was just great. My highlights were right on, very natural and just plain out what i wanted!! I'm letting my hair grow, so Marc gave me a trim with a little ""action"", as what he described. I'm very happy to give a positive review!! I'll be going to Marc from now on!! Pros: Nice staff, full of energy Cons: a little loud, because it's small more

Stay away from this salon 6/3/2008

I went to Tim's and asked for a relaxer, I was given a stylist that ""specializes in relaxers"". When she was finished putting the relaxer on me, she told me that she had skipped a spot in-between my last relaxer and my touch-up. She said if I had any problems, she could fix it. My hair started to fall out at the point between the two relaxers. I went back to her, but there was nothing that she could do to fix it. When I complained to the owner of the store, he said that I had mistreated my hair and that was why it fell out. They refused to help me and I was forced to cut off all of my hair and regrow it. There are plenty of salons in downtown Philadelphia, stay away from this one. Cons: bad service, inexperienced stylists, rude more

Needs stylist who can manage hair for women of color, over the age of 30. 12/7/2007

If you want a great relaxer and conditioner, then this is the place for you. However, if you're also looking for style and ""hair care"", you should look elsewhere. The prices are ridiculous, and will increase with every visit. The shop is small, and often you will have a wait. Know exactly what you want to have done when you come or you'll be sorely dissapointed. On a positive, the owner is very kind, and his son is very easy on the eyes..... Pros: Convienient location, charming salon Cons: Needs more skilled stylist to create styles for women of color; small shop, long waits, overpriced more

Good in a Pinch 12/2/2007

I ended up at Tim's by the advice of my co-workers. I work in building, so it's convenient to just pop down on your lunch break. I only ended up their because I wanted my hair done for the weekend after Thanksgiving and it was already the day before Thanksgiving. Most salons were booked or closed for Friday, etc. I gave a call down and they worked me into the schedule. I had Jerry and she did a great job. I liked the cut, but what I liked more was the time she spent styling it. I would have liked to know what products she was using (so, at least you know now that there isn't sales pressure). A lot of places I've gone to seem to blow-dry and send me on my way, but she took time. The staff was also very curteous. Price was about $45 for wash, cut, and style. I think it was worth it in a pinch, but I'm not sure Tim's would always be my first choice. Pros: Convenience, great staff, friendly, no sales pressure, felt good afterwards. Cons: Small salon, crowded, downstairs near the rails and parking garage is shady. more

awesome place 11/21/2007

I stumbled upon this salon back in 2002 - walked in for a haircut and the rest of the years I spent in Philly, I always went there for Mona to get my hair. She always gave me awesome cuts that were stylish and easy to deal with. I'm in California now - but still highly recommend this salon! Pros: Great stylists! more

Tim's of Philadelphia Hair 2/8/2007

Just moved to Philly in the summer with my husband and was driving back 2 1/2 hours to get my hair done from the same place I've been going to for 10 years. My husband told me to go where he goes and let Marc do my hair. My daughter told me I shouldn't go where dad goes that would be crazy. I went to Marc who did a great job. My color is beautiful and I can honestly say I never have a bad hair day. I was in my old town the other morning and a woman came up to me and asked where I get my hair done that she wanted the same look. She was disappointed when I had to tell her that Marc was in Philly. My daughter now drives 1 1/2 to come to Marc so he can do her hair too! What a great find for us! On top of being great at what he does he is a good person. more

Amazing experience, the man with the magic hands 10/19/2006

Tim's is an amazing hair experience. i had just moved to philly and i really needed a hair salon to cure my hair blues. i had researched some places on citysearch and read a couple of reviews and decided on giving tim's a try. i walked up cold to the place- no appointment, not really sure what the pricing was, with sort of an idea of what i wanted. as soon as i walked through the door i was greeted with a warm welcome. from that point on i was treated as if i was a supermodel getting the deluxe glamourization job. marc, the charming gentleman that was my stylist, was incredible. he talked me through what i wanted and gave insight into what his professional mind would suggest. he made sure that he knew what color and cut was right for my skin tone and face shape, that would enhance my assets, and wouldn't be too much of a maintenance issue. he was attentive all throughout the whole procedure and was very friendly and open, unlike other places where all they want to do is chop hair and collect money. he even got me a starbucks coffee while i waited for the color to set! marc was a true professional- he made my hair look fabulous and he made me feel fabulous. the pricing was a plus as well, being a college student i didn't have the funds to spend $350 on a center city hair-doo. a cool $155 got my long hair a rocking style and gorgeous color. tim's was a shot in the dark and it ended up being the best hair experience i have had, i will definitely make my next appointment there. Pros: the staff all had smiles on their faces and they were genuinely interested in what they could do for you, pricing was great, and as the sign read they "welcomed walk-ins" Cons: it was a little tricky to find but all you have to do was ask the information desk more

Needed Emergency Clean Up 10/17/2006

I was in town for a business meeting and needed to get my color done and my hair styled. I saw the salon and walked in and asked who did the best color and could they fit me in. Marc did my color, cut my hair and styled it. It came out great. He fixed the color issues I was having. Marc was great and the salon was clean. Pros: Great Find more

Great haircuts & color 10/16/2006

OMG!!! What a wonderful little salon I found by accident. I was walking from the train to work in the Centre Square building and stumbled upon this salon. I walked in to check it out and was greeted by the nicest man working there, Marc. Marc worked me into his schedule at my convenience and I'm glad he did. After years of trying, I finally have the best hair color and and cut for my lifestyle. Who knows, by the next time I might have highlights too!! I highly recommend stopping in and asking for Marc. Pros: Totally convenient and Marc will work with you. Cons: I didn't find any on my visit. more

Best Hair Color 10/15/2006

What a hidden gem! This small and cozy salon is a secret that you must check out. The young male worker Mark does color work, especially highlights that are outrageous. He has talent that I just found and he fixed the disasterous color job that i have been living with. I think he is worth checking out and his prices are unbelievably low for a center city salon. Pros: Location, the work product and pricing Cons: Not a frilly salon- Ideal for a busy person more
