What is this place? 5/23/2009

This place has a lot of potential ... BUT, the bar staff seems a bit too ""social"". There were numerous times my group wanted to get drinks, but the bartender was outside smoking. When we would finally get our drinks, they were way too stiff. We were a group of girls and wanted to have a steady buzz all night but their stiff poor made it so we could only handle 1 drink each. I guess they are trying to be generous but they were actually gross. We were gonna order food, but there was no kitchen staff. There happened to be a dj playing the night we were there and the music was great but the dance floor was sticky and slippery from drinks being spilled everywhere. One other suggestion us girls have is to get some heaters... the place was super cold. We were all wearing dresses and felt like the only place to get warm was the 1 area next to the fireplace. But later on, those tables were taken (there was no other heat source), so we just decided to leave. If there bartenders were more attentive and they just cleaned the place up a bit and maybe made it a little warmer, it would be one of Seattle's coolest bars. It has all the potential but lacking in those basic areas. Pros: This place has so much potential, Great Djs both Fri and Sat Cons: Too strong of drinks, sticky tables/floors, Cold inside more

Disappointed 5/15/2008

I am a cocktail girl so when Kurrent opened, I had to head right over to check it out. The cocktail list sounded intruiging and I had the check out the ice bar. I had visions of it being uber cool like the ice bar in stockholm but no luck. The ice bar is actually just a small strip of ice that goes down the top of the bar. Good concept so your drink stays cold. Not so good when they put your hot appetizers on said ice strip. The appetizers were awful. \r \r The drinks were good. They are doing some very cool infusions, they make their own tonic, etc. However, the bartenders copped such an attitude and were so off-putting that I don't know how they have customers. My friends and I have been 3 times in hope of finding a bartender who would actually treat us like a wecome guest or at the very least take care of the basics like get us water, make us more drinks, etc. \r \r Major disappointment more

Nice place 2/17/2008

My friends and I wandered into Kurrent last night after a movie. It was close to the Egyptian. It had food.\r I had not read any reviews. So this morning, I decide to check out what Seattle has to say. I found a ton of reviews which imply this restaurant is in the wrong neighborhood. You know how this made me feel? Bored of hipsters. The idea that Capitol Hill requires a certain style of restaurant to ""fit in"" is the worst type of provincialism. So, you hipsters, go slink around in your too tight pants and drink you PBR and pretend you're in a band. \r \r I grew up on capitol hill. I have seen things change. Boo Hoo. You guys don't even remember Ernie Steels...the ultimate hang out. But I digress, Kurrent was good. The service was good. The beer was good.\r Meals were served in a timely manner. The waiter was darling. What is the fricking problem? more

BAD MUSIC AND SMALL SPACE 1/29/2008

The food is good but I think it's over rated the place is VERY SMALL and the dj does not play good music at all. I think his name is Dj SPAM I AM the name explains it all. \r \r For Dinner this is a good place but to have a drink and listen to music I would never go back! more

Unique drinks and a Wii in the VIP!! 11/14/2007

I am as new to Capitol Hill as Kurrent, having moved to Seattle a few months ago. I know I have many bars and restaurants to visit now that I am in the area, but Kurrent has been a stand out spot for me since my first visit. \r \r First of all, they are the only bar I know of with a Nintendo Wii in their VIP room, which is just awesome for groups. Aside from the Zig Zag, Kurrent is the only bar I know of that offers an authentic James Bond martini, called a ""Vesper"" (as it is called in the first Bond book in the 1950's). Your 007 martini isn't the real deal unless it has Kina Lillet, and they create this drink perfectly with a twisted lemon peel. Their appetizers are delicious and affordable, especially during Lounge Hour. \r \r Friday nights and weekend evenings typically allow for standing room only, which isn't bad since everybody is mingling and having a great time. This is actually a nice and quiet place to go for dinner, since the crowd doesn't pick up heavily until late at night. I do love the fact that they have a plasma TV in the bar, usually on ESPN. I never expected I would have been able to watch one of the world series games there this year, so that was fun. \r \r I saw the sign outside Kurrent saying they now served brunch, so I definitely want to check it out. My friend told me they actually make omlets at your table, so I'm anxious!\r \r I highly recommend Kurrent if you're coming over from Bellevue or trying to break out of the Belltown area but still want that chic and upscale feel. \r \r Pros: Seafood, atmosphere, drinks, Wii Cons: Limited capacity late at night more

Kurrent Review 10/22/2007

I liked it. The happy hour/entree snack/food was good the waiter was on it so I didn't have to wait around or flag him down for drinks. I'll go back for actual dinner here in the near future and see what that is like. It is a relatively tight quarters bar so if this place gets some traction it will be pretty snug in there.\r \r My only beef is the ice bar. The site hypes it up a lot so I expected a really cool bar counter made of ice with backlighting, or something that makes it stand out. Instead it is a 6 inch patch of ice that run s the length of the bar, towards the top of it. The thing must have cost a fortune to have installed and operate so why not call some serious attention to it by making it a hugely visible item of conversation that really makes the bar standout.?. Pros: good food, cool back room area Cons: tight quarters, hidden ice bar more

Great drinks and great eats 10/15/2007

Kurrent was so much fun to visit. The atmosphere was great and I absolutely loved the ice bar. This was such a fun way to keep your drink cold while hanging out. The seafood chowder is hands down the best seafood chowder I have ever had in my life and the cocktails will never get old. The Strawberry Basil Martini is nothing short of inventive-it is bliss in a cup. I would recommend this place to any of my friends. Pros: Valet Parking more

Amazing cocktails and seafood 10/9/2007

Normally, I'd be a little put off by the atmosphere. Beautiful people dressed, well beautifully. Trendy and chic atmosphere, but TRY IT!!!!! \r \r The cocktails are phenomenal- everything is fresh, well made and well thought out. James is best bartender I have come across in Seattle. If you let him be a bit creative with your drinks, you won't be disappointed and will probably learn something new. The food is great too, some of the freshest seafood you will find in Seattle without a huge price tag. If you can make happy hour the food is even more of a steal. Location is excellent as well. Pros: cocktails, service, freshness Cons: friday and saturday and crowds more
