Worst.Service.Ever\r \r Walk in w/my 82 year old dad. 3 tables seated out of around 50. Waitress seats us with my back to a pillar. Ask for different table, we sit one table over. No big deal.\r \r It's cold and rainy. My dad wants a tea service.\r \r I get it, it's Thai - not Chinese. Nevertheless, waitress says ok. SHE COULD HAVE SAID ""WE DON'T DO THAT"". If tea service was a hassle, fine. Don't do it.\r \r She brings us a pot half full of what turned out to be tepid water and a single teabag. I ask for another teabag. She says ok.\r \r She services one of the other 3 tables, then stands around while we're waiting for the 2nd teabag. I flag her; she brings it over, and explains how normally they'd charge us for this second teabag that cost them maybe $0.12, but she's going to cut us slack. Gosh thanks! I put it and other teabag into lukewarm water.\r \r I pour what there is of the tea. It spills all over the table. I start mopping it up with my napkin. She sees, does nothing.\r \r At this point I'm done. We explain we won't be dining there. My dad puts $5 on the table. She objects that they started the food. I tell her I'm sorry, but we're not paying for it. We leave.\r \r On my way out the door, some cousin/brother/son, wanna be little punk thug, says ""Yo man, why you gotta be such a dick?"". I tell him ""Thank you, have a nice day"" and keep walking. You know - like a grownup.\r \r I'll never try the food there. The Chronicle says it's wonderful, but the Chronicle thought Madame Mams was wonderful, and it was mediocre and overpriced. So, no loss there.\r \r It's a drag getting old, I'll tell ya. I (mostly) worked my way thru college as a server. What happened today would have been literally inconceivable then, 30 years ago. But hey, nowadays, the customer is always wrong. more

The steamed spring rolls had almost half a shrimp in each and the requested peanut sauce was not delivered. Very disappointing! more

Editorial review from GrubHub 1/13/2014

The food from Thai Passion was just okay. They were not accommodating in regards to delivery time and packaging. I would only recommend for small orders (5 or less people). more

I got a vermicelli bowl and it was a bit bland. Not the spiciness, that was on point and great, but other flavors were lacking. The eggroll was good and their sweet and sour sauce was unique and tasty. They forgot my peanut sauce, which would have made the vermicelli a lot better. more

One of the best Thai Places in Austin 1/3/2012

I love going to Thai Passion. I tend to go after 9pm at night either before my clubbing starts or right after. They have a good number of different types of plates to choose from and I have not had any problems with them every time I wanted to added or change something in their meals. \r \r Gilbert (one of the waiters) has always been great to me. He remembers me by name and goes out of is way to make conversation me everytime I go there. \r \r The prices are decent and for how much you pay for you get a large amount of food. My meals have always been prepared right with out there being any problems. The place is not over decorated and its enjoyable to just sit and talk over a class of wine with other friends. They also have a pretty good wine selection.\r \r The only downfall I can really see is that there is not much parking. But what do you expect? Its downtown!\r \r I really enjoy going and continue to go back. The food is great and service has always been wonderful. \r more

Worst Thai Food Ever! 3/2/2011

S. Pk Meadows THE WORST Thai food ever. Service was awful, waitress barely made it to our table. We were lucky to get a glass of water.Seafood soup was disgusting, so spicy it was making our eyes water just being near it. The seafood was past its prime to say the least. The one other dish we got, Pud-Kee-Mow was just gross noodles were clumpy & meat so hard you might as well be chewing gum, no that would pronbaly be softer and easier to swallow. Want good Thai food go for the sure thing Subsins on Manchaca! more

Great Thai food downtown! 7/1/2009

Thai passion is located right downtown and is the perfect spot to go after a night hanging out on 6th street, they offer the best thai food in downtown. The prices are a little high but worth it. Pros: open late more

Bad Dining Experience 11/18/2008

I was really looking forward to trying a great Thai restaurant in Austin, unfortunately I went here. The shrimp in my Pad Thai was ""off"" and the dish was inedible. I never send food back, but this was truly awful. The kitchen staff assured me that this was how the dish was, ""supposed to taste."" They were nice enough not to charge me for the Pad Thai. Also, the waitress didn't bring silverware or ask if we wanted anything to drink and when we did order drinks we had to do so twice because she forgot. She was very nice, but new. The more experienced hostess was just rude. Very disappointing. more

bad food, 2x too expensive 3/9/2008

This place wasn't nearly as good as the other reviews said. We had the curry and chicken satay. It looked and tasted like something you would buy frozen at costco and heat up in a microwave. And it was around $12 for each plate. Cons: bad food! more

Hair in my food... 11/17/2007

I went to this restaurant once before and I liked it, so I thought, why not try it again? The second time I went I found what can only be described as pubic or armpit hair in my pad thai. Now, I know that this kind of stuff happens sometimes, so I politely told the waitress and she told me they would bring me out a new dish. However, when the dish came back 2 minutes later, my friend and I were pretty sure that they just reheated my original meal. It seemed unlikely that they could cook a brand new meal in that little time. Nevertheless, I was pretty disgusted, but since there was nothing I could do to prove it, I had to pay full price for my meal. NOT a great experience! Also, I know Madam Mam's is probably more westernized than this place, but I also love their pad Thai much more than the pad thai at Thai Passion! Parking is difficult here, it's hard to find places on the street so your forced to pay $6 to park. Also, the waitress only came by once to hand over the food and once more after that, but we never saw her again. We had to use multiple other waitresses to get our waitress' attention. The only pro I can think of is that we got seated quickly each time. Also, the shrimp fried eggrolls are good. The atmosphere isn't bad either. Honestly, I would not recommend this place. For the price, I feel like you could go to a better place where you would get more for your money. Pros: atmosphere, seated quickly Cons: bad service, not worth it for the money more

Love Thai food? Stay away from Thai Passion 11/3/2007

For a person who is either Thai or knows how REAL THAI FLAVOR is, would be greatly disappointed. I'm Thai and I have to say that the only beautiful thing about this place is the atmosphere. I'd say if this place wasn't located in the heart of downtown, it would have been out of business within a few years. \r \r \r First time I had their food was when I came to visit Austin, I had Phad Pet Squids. First thing that came to my mind was: ""This is not how it's supposed to taste!"" \r \r Second time was when I first got here. It was a special occasion. Since the place looked really nice, I was thinking: ""why not?! Let's give the place another try"". Again, I was disappointed. Even my husband who is American, but had been to Thailand, was agreeing on how tasteless the food was despite of how beautiful it looked. \r \r Third time I happened to have to be downtown and I had a craving for some Thai food so I was thinking - AGAIN- why not!? Needless to say, I could have beaten myself up for going there. It was awefully tasteless. \r \r The way Thai food should taste is not what Thai Passion can give you. \r \r \r In short, if you look for a restaurant with nice atmosphere and pretty looking food, THAI PASSION is the place for you.\r \r But if your reason for dining out is to taste some great food, stay away from Thai Passion! Pros: AMBIENCE, LOCATION Cons: the food, service and anything else except the ambience more

Great food, not so great service 9/25/2007

We had dinner at Thai passion on a weekday night in a group of 5 people. The food was wonderful but the service was awful to say the least, it took the server almost 10 minutes to get us water then another 20 minutes to get our appetizers. We would have understood if it was a busy weekend night but on this night the restaurant was less than half full. Also, since we were in group of 5, a gratuity of 18% was added to our bill. Pros: Food Cons: Lousy service more
