Don't Do it 3/22/2012

Don't do it! I moved and they made me provide very personal information to cancel and still charged me to cancel. They lock you in and it's awful that you have to go through so much to cancel. Aside from that I paid for personal training and half the time my trainer canceled on me and I never even received all the training sessions that I paid for!! It's a waste of money and the customer service is AWFUL! more

Stay away from this place. 4/26/2011

Do not join Sweat under any circumstances. They use a company by the name of ABC Financial to bill their customers for membership fees - Google it and you won't believe the horror stories you will find about them. The stories of people trying to cancel their memberships are unbelievable - and unfortunately I have been dealing with this myself for several weeks now, with no success as of yet in being able to cancel my month to month membership. more

Disappointed 3/8/2011

I signed up for the 1-week free trial, and sure enough, about 2 weeks later I got a call saying I "won" 6 months free. I called to confirm this and the lady informed me that it was a 12 month contract. I told her that I travel during the week for work and that a 12 month contract wouldn't make sense for me. She then proceeded to tell me that I could cancel after 6 months if I gave her my cc# right then. Obviously, this sounded a bit fishy. When I told her I'd be right down to get that in writing, she told me to wait and she'd call me back.....never heard back. The gym itself isn't anything special either, at least in Manayunk. Strapping a TV on an outdated treadmill doesn't make it run any better. more

Fit for BAIT and SWITCH 12/2/2010

I totally agree with Snoots2126. What a waste of time and energy. My husband and I got caught up in this bait and switch too. We are also ""Grand Prize winners"" of 6 free months, 2 hours each of personal training, and 10 free passes for friends. We went to the gym in our gear ready to claim our prize and work out. After our gym tour we were told we would have to sign up for 12 or 18 months in order to gain our grand prize. We would need to pay $75 or $49 a month each (month-to-month or for 12 months), plus and upfront $149 each for joining. When we declined, we were offered a 3-day free trial (also super generous, given we can get a 7-day free trial just by visiting their website). Be clear, we expected some catch (we are not that naive), but just not such a jarring expense, given there was no asterisks or fine print on the mailer. So ""Grand Prize Winners"" out there, do the math and be prepared to pay $1000 - $1500 for your ""grand"" prize (or more - our offer was lower because we are a couple - what a deal!). Or, do like we are doing by reporting Sweat Fitness to the Better Business Bureau www.easternpa.bbb (dot) org and the Pennsylvania State Attorney General for Consumer Protection services (www.attorneygeneral.gov/complaints.aspx?id=451). At least you'll feel like a real winner for helping others. more

Dishonest Promotion-- Untrustworthy Company. AVOID! 12/1/2010

This is ane email I sent to the owner of the company; He has not had the courtesy to reply: Dear Mr. Scott Caplan, A few days ago, I received in the mail one of your "Scratch & Win" flyers. I have been thinking of rejoining a gym in the area where I live (not far from your center on Arch St. and 15th St., which would be quite convenient). I therefore decided to see whether I had "won" anything. Yes, I was a "Grand Prize Winner!" which, according to the flyer, entitled me to "6 months free, Free personal training, or 10 VIP passes, or all three." To be certain that this "win" was legitimate, I called your company and left a message. One of your associates (I forget her name) returned my call, and she informed me that as a Grand Prize Winner I was entitled to the items listed on the mailing. I asked if there were any conditions, truly believing that I might indeed be a rare "Grand Prize Winner," and she said "only a joining fee of $149." Today, I took time to visit your gym at Arch and 15th Streets and was informed that there were further conditions not mentioned on the mailing, namely that I would have to take out a 12- or 18-month contract at $65 or $59 per month, respectively. Neither of these conditions nor, indeed, the joining fee, were printed on your flyer. I believe your mailing should have listed all these conditions, even in small print, on the mailing. I would imagine that it might be illegal not to do so. If not, it certainly should be! I think your mailing is dishonest and certainly is unethical -- and has wasted my time, as well. Obviously, you have lost a legitimate customer, and I suspect other "Prize Winners" -- and friends of mine who are already members of your gym at other locations -- will be as angry, or at least as disappointed, as I am when they find out the true value of the "prizes" you have offered. Sincerely, more

scam 9/8/2009

They have you sign up for a "free month" and then do their best to not let you out of it. Do NOT give them your cc# to sign up for a free month. They will charge you a TON for your "free month". Everyone is super nice up front, and then real jerks when it comes to you quitting. Pros: less crowded Cons: SCAM more

Deplorable Cancellation policy 7/23/2009

Simply the best gym ever 6/4/2008

I've been a sweat member for 6 years. I go to the 24th street, center city and queen village locations and workout 5-6 times per week. I don't understand where the few negative reviews on City Search are coming from - they're totally ridiculous. I'm a petite, unassuming looking woman and I feel very comfortable working out at Sweat. It isn't a pick-up scene like Ballys -it's actually not a *scene* at all. People are really there to exercise. Folks using the gym are curteous and friendly. It's never so crowded that you can't get on a machine or can't get into a class. The front desk staff always greet me with a friendly hello. They usually play good music (which I don't think is too loud - it's a gym - it's not like you can hear the music over your ipod). The equipment is in good condition, they keep it VERY clean, the cardio equipment is all hooked up with individual tv monitors, etc. Pete is an incredible kick-boxing instructor and Megan is one of the best yoga teachers I've ever had. I love Sweat. To the guy who was upset about being kicked out for grunting - good riddance. Sweat has very publicly stated "no grunting" and no dropping dumbells rules. And for good reason. It sounds so disgusting and is offensive when some muscle jock is grunting at the top of his lungs and then slams the weights onto the ground. It's really disruptive to other people's workouts and just plain rude. Pros: Best trainers and instructors anywhere; great locations; amazing classes Cons: The only con I can think of is that the women's locker room is cramped more

Best Endorphin Rush in the City 4/26/2007

Sweat 24th Street is a great gym for many reasons. It has a friendly, knowledgeable staff at a convenient location. If you really want to sweat take Jacqui's Friday morning spin class, her music selections are a plus. Otherwise, take advantage of the personal training staff to add structure and discipline to your workout. Sweat's prices are affordable. My only complaint is that Sweat gym is missing some of the extras such as a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool. Pros: You can go to any of Sweat's 4 locations, Frequent promotions Cons: Bare bones locker room more

SWEAT is a great place! This gym maybe be smaller, but it provides the local gym-goer with everything they need to have a good workout. I enjoy the gym and think the facility and staff are very good. more

Are we sure this is a gym?! 10/11/2006

The Sweat Gym in Manayunk is just ridiculous, and I don't mean that in a good way! From the guys coming to 'work out' in their Polos with the popped collars and flip flops to the girls with excessive the jewelry and makeup, it?s truly a three ring circus.. Pros: The Plasmas and the location Cons: Everyone in it. more
