Sushi Japon

Our whole family went (12 in all) to celebrate my 12 year old son and my mother -in-law's birthdays. We had a blast. We were entertained by the wonderful chefs and the food was excellent. Our waitress was so attentive, we didn't want for anything. The quantness of the resturant was very appealing and even though we had a large party, it was easy to see and talk to everyone. The food was delicious and the service is unbeatable. The menu ""seems"" a little pricey BUT what you get for money is unbelievable. We originally had reservations for kobe's but friends highly recommended sushi japon Steakhouse and said they'd never go back to the ""other place"". I'm with them. We've found a new family resturant and can't wait to go back again Pros: great tappan style food and service Cons: nothing more

I have been to Sushi Japon a few times for an after-work snack at the sushi bar and always found the atmosphere pleasant and the service very nice. The sushi chef is always the same guy and is nice to talk to, along with the servers. Tonight I went with a date and again it was an excellent experience. We started with some Edamame and the excellent Gyu Tataki appetizer, which is thin slices of seared (rare) beef served in a delicious ponzu sauce. Sort of like steak sashimi - it was great! We got a bottle of cold sake since they actually have a good selection at the bar. The server was knowledgeable about the selections and recommended a bottle, which was from California and was good enough. For sushi, we tried the Kevin's Special Roll - asparagus tempura and masago inside, topped with lightly seared tuna, lemon zest, and spicy sauce. This is an excellent roll, one of the best in town. We tried several kinds of nigiri sushi including Sake Toro, Unagi, Toro, Anago, and Hamachi Toro (was not on the menu but the server told me about it). The toro was amazing, as I would expect at the $9/piece current market price. The sake toro was fresh and delicious, which is great at only about $5/2pc. All of the fish was delicious, the cuts were very generous, and the prices are very reasonable for fresh, quality fish. The service was excellent, very attentive, and our server seemed very interested in how we enjoyed everything, recommendations for our next visit, etc. Dinner came to about $90 for 2 people including a $15 bottle of sake. Overall, pretty reasonable for this caliber of food and service. Pros: Great food, service, price, atmosphere Cons: Frontage road location may scare people away more

My boyfriend and I went on sunday night for a birthday dinner. We ordered sashimi/sushi platter for two and it was amazing. the fish was fresh, the presentation was great, and an interesting/impressive variety. We were serviced by a very attentive and friendly server, and we really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Everything about/in the restaurant was authentic - this is definitely our new favorite sushi spot! Pros: Great food and atmosphere Cons: nothing more

The first time I came here, I was really biased. I have been a huge fan of Sushi Sake for years, but Sushi Japon has stolen my heart! I can't even tell you how many times I've been here now. I DO NOT eat anywhere else. The owners (I think?...they're sisters, though I know that!) are amazingly sweet. They offer the best service and are so sweet! They always know what my boyfriend and I want but still allow us ample time to order. They have a 'ceviche' they used to offer as a special that is not on the menu anymore and are always happy to let us order it! Their sushi is fantastic. I love their 'saba' and their unagi is the best I've had (eat it when it's still warm!!!). Also, their sunomono salad is fantastic. A lot of places get this simple salad wrong, but I have never had a bad one here. Their tempura is great, too! Very crunchy and just properly made unlike some places that have a very thick batter and do not use panko. What else can I recommend? Get the gindala!!!!! It is so good. It just melts in your mouth...mmm! And my boyfriend LOVES the gyu tataki! The ponzu sauce is phenomenal! I have been here so many times and have gotten such amazing quality food and service that I had to finally write a review. I grew up next to a Japanese restaurant owned by a Japanese couple...so, I have been spoiled all of my life and know good sushi! They tend to have a short staff, but always seem to pull things off. I have come when they are packed, and though the food came out a little slow...I was still really satisfied. Trust me! Just go! It is amazing. more

My girlfriend and I eat there every single month and crave the fried rice and hibachi chicken and shrimp always. Simply the best Japanese you could imagine, never been disappointed in the show, service, food, or ambiance. Pros: Hibachi food, Fried Rice, Show while eating Cons: nothing more

The service was awesome here. The staff is attentive & the service was fast. They were really interested in any suggestions, comments, & criticisms we had. We had absolutely no complaints. The atmosphere is relaxing & the decor was pleasant. . I did not feel like rushed at all .The meal was delicious. I would definitely come back again! I don't know about the reviews but I visited here because of the review and it was just horrible. The table that i was seated to was very dirty and there were leftover food on the floor, the booth chair was very sticky. Another annoying thing was that food did not come out right, and worst part of all, there was something that looked like a b u g in the food. I asked to get another one, which took forever in the kitchen and the waitress was so rude. She almost seemed like she was mad the whole time i was there. I also notice some other waitress and the sushi bar guy talking about roa ches or something. I dont know about other people but this place was just bad. We've been to Sushi Japon at least 2 dozen times since it opened and have never been disappointed with either the food or the service. more

This restaurant is a great! I would have to agree that I enjoyed the secludedness of this restaurant, making the place not too crowded and a lot more enjoyable,I had a great time with some friends here, we had great sake drinks, and enjoyed the speciality rolls, the fish was so fresh and delicious. The price was fair and the service was great, I defenitely recommended this place to everyone I know and will be going back soon. Pros: Thumbs up -- good sushi more

This place is amazing, All around was very impressed with my first visit to sush japon. everthing from the ambiance to the wait staff and most important the food was first rate. everthing done was perfection. The hamachi kama was out of world and peper tuna w/strawberry was worth going back for more! i need to go back and try some more on the menu........ i hightly recomend this place!!!!! This is one of the worst sushi restaurants ever! It seems like no one is even working here when you go. The service is way worse than the food. Sushi is not fresh. I gave it a benefit of doubt after just getting up and leaving the first time. No one was there to seat us and when a waitress finally came it was horrible. I just love this place. It's near my house so I've been a half dozen times. I've never been disappointed by the food or the service. You will notice that the one bad review of this place is by someone that orders their beef well-done. Enough said. My only complaint about the service might be that it is TOO attentive, but they are all so friendly and fun to chat with that this is hardly a negative. Group of 25 for a birthday party dinner on a Saturday Night, with reservations. The staff was accomodating and helpful. I came in and was immediately greeted and offered a drink while i waited for my friend to show up (it was thursday). It wasn't crowded, and it wasn't loud (which i liked). I had a Ichiban on tap. Good beer for a place like this to have on tap. I don't remember everything we ordered, but i remember the spider roll and it was good! Love the soft shell crab! Not the BEST i've had in Austin, but it was good. The staff was great, very friendly and accommodating. The location is great, easy to get in/out. I think after 3 years they could take down the ""Grand Opening"" sign. They told me they've been there for 3 years and while i was pulling out i noticed the sign. They should really take that down now. So, overall, i would recommend them. They aren't the best, but if you're in that part of town (2222 & I-35) this is not a bad place at all; my experience was good! Pros: location, ambience, staff Cons: curb appeal more

I've been to more than my share of sushi joints and I must say that I was not disappointed with this one. I celebrated my 27th birthday here a little while ago. Our waitress was extremely friendly, the food was delicious, the ambiance was very nice, and the manager was very personable. She was very interested to know what we thought of everything and was open to suggestions. Most places don't even give a damn as long as they get your money. . I would definitely bring a date, go back with friends again, or even have a meal by myself at the sushi bar. more
