So friendly and wonderful, wouldn't go anywhere else! 3/1/2007

I love Dianne Nola! When I was visiting from Pittsburgh a few years ago, my best friend recommended Dianne and Surreal You since she'd been going for years. I popped in and got a fantastic hair cut. Flew back to Pittsburgh and didn't get another cut until I came back to San Francisco for visits since I wanted Dianne to cut it. Then one day back in PA, I somehow lost my mind and got a spiral perm done in some shopping mall salon. OMG! I shouldn't have done it, what a nightmare! I lived with the horror for over a year until I moved back to San Francisco. Pros: Relaxed and fun atmosphere, very skilled hairdresser. more

Great place to get your hair done! 2/17/2007

I've been going to Karla for several years now and she always does an awesome job on my cut and highlights!! I consistently get compliments -- someone even stopped me in Walgreens one day to find out where I get my hair done. I'm surprised at the last two comments. There's not a snotty bone in that place! It's one of the most down to earth places I've ever had my hair done. It's a small, laid-back, comfortable, and intimate atmosphere. And as far as not honoring a two-week fix, I'm shocked to hear that. They've always told me (and I've heard them tell others) that if you're not happy, just come back and they'll fix it -- period. Pros: Small shop, great neighborhood, nice people! more

Better than therapy! 1/26/2007

Who needs therapy if you have a great haircut? I started getting my hair cut by Dianne at Surreal You in 2001. I moved to Boston in 2003 and still get my hair cut only by Dianne. Seems crazy, but my hair has looked great regardless of whether I've gone short or long and it looks great for long periods of time between haircuts (8 months once!). I've had highlights looking so natural that numerous people become despondant when I tell them they have to travel to SF to get them. If you live in the area - take advantage! Pros: Great ambiance, fantastic haircut and lots of fun! more

Surreal You Hair Salon/Dianne Nola 1/25/2007

I have been going to Dianne for my haircuts for almost ten years. I have lots of wavy hair but I don't have a blow-dryer and have never been able to give good directions to a stylist. But Dianne always gives me great cuts: long, short, classic, funky, fem, butch, she can do it all and it ALWAYS looks good. I lived in Boston for six years and gave up looking after many lame cuts. She'd cut it for me whenever I was in SF and I'd tell her how long it would have to last before I'd be back. Now I am back in town and can see her whenever I want! It looks great walking out of the salon and it looks good for weeks/months as well. I have never had a problem getting an appointment and she is very prompt and professional. more

My hair looks better than it has in a loooong time! 1/25/2007

I'm pretty loyal to all manner of service providers, but 4 weeks after Dianne first cut my hair, my previous stylist was an ""ex."" Dianne's magic allowed my wavy hair to look good walking out of the salon and still look good after 6 or even 8 weeks! She even remembered what she had done so that the magic was repeated over and over again. Pros: Skilled, caring stylists; fun ambience (& great music) Cons: Appointments book up fast: sometimes you can't get in ""right away"" more

Really Friendly :) 1/23/2007

I always take the N- Judah home from work and see this salon, so I decided to try it. I was really frustrated by my other stylist who is always booked up and she just never listens to me. So, I made an appointment with this woman named Dianne. She wears funky frames and is animated but she totally listens. She said she'd been doing hair for about 20 years-- very thorough. She explained what the products did and how to use them which I really appreciated. I looked HOT!!! I am definitely going back. Pros: Love the ambiance, classical music, very relaxing. Cons: A receptionist would be a good addition and they don't accept plastic. more

Bad Attitude 6/8/2006

I received a so-so cut for $50, but what really will keep me from going back is the incredibly snotty attitude. The shampoo was the only good part of this experience. Too scared to go back. more

Don't bother 8/30/2003

First of all the haircut was overpriced, and not that good. When I called back to take advantage of the ""within two weeks"" fix if i was not satisfied, I was told that it would ""take too much of my time"" by the hairdresser, and was also told that they do not do ""touch ups"". I would expect this type of service form a $15 haircut, but this haircut cost me over $50. Never again. Pros: close to my house Cons: expensive, bad customer service more
