Editorial review from Citysearch 1/20/2013

If you want to be helped at this store be sure to bring your husband or someone posing as him. OR you can bring in one or two younger males (15-25) and immediately upon entering they will receive a snotty ""CAN I HELP YOU ""GENTLEMEN""?\r \r I don't know what this store's problem is. If I go in by myself I can't get anyone to help me. If I go in with my husband, they're all over us like stink on **** (he's even mentioned this). After being ignored several times, I've noticed this is their mode of operation. Apparently they think if you're in there with your husband you're going to make a big ticket purchase. I can attest to this because Barbara Goldkorn the store owner followed this process when I wanted to purchase a $7500 machine. Prior to that I couldn't get anyone to even talk to me.\r \r Today I went in for the 3rd time to exchange the incorrect bobbins for my machine. After being ignored while waiting in line (had to tell them I was next, not the woman behind me) I got to make my exchange. During the transaction I asked if there was someone there who could help me with digitizing software and sergers. My request was ignored and the sales person went to the next person in line. \r \r I went over to the sergers and stood around looking for someone to help me. Once again only couples were being helped. Even couples who came in after me were pounced on. After 15 minutes of being ignored I left and went over to SMM's outlet store on Burnet. There were a few folks in there, but I was greeted when I entered and spent the better part of an hour talking about digitizing with Susan and sergers with Danica. I ended up buying a $400 serger from Danica who was fantastic. Both Susan and Danica were friendly and knowledgeable and I was happy to buy from them as sales people but I'm not happy that SMM got another sale. I guess I'll go look at other sewing machine shops in the next few days before I open the box.\r \r Not sure if The Goldkorn's monitor these reviews. Maybe they don't care as they're the exclusive dealer of several top sewing machine brands in the greater Austin area. They certainly act like they don't need my business and from the majority of the reviews here, they don't need yours either.\r \r Was this review …?\r \r Useful \r Funny \r Cool \r \r more

Best little sewing shop in Texas! 1/20/2011

I have found a new home! Sew Much More is terrific, very warm and inviting. I have reawakened my love of sewing and find so much support, creativity, and education in addition to all the machines I could ever want. The staff is very helpful and always make me feel as though I am the most important person they could be talking to. Great store! Great classes! Great people! more

Great store! 1/20/2011

Sew Much More is a great store with friendly, knowledgeable staff. No hard sells here, and they have fantastic after-purchase support. I have taken several classes, and thoroughly enjoyed those as well. In addition to selling top quality machines from BabyLock and Bernina, they also have a good selection of notions, sewing furniture and recently added fabric. It is one of my favorite ""happy"" places to go. more

Impressive Customer Service 1/20/2011

I recently purchased a Babylock Ellegante2 from Sew Much More, when I unfortunately discovered I had underestimated MY requirements. Laura worked feverishly to meet my needs so I would be pleased with my purchase, spending HOURS to find a solution. It became obvious to all, I needed a different machine. Laura respectfully refunded my purchase, even when I declined to upgrade. more

Super customer Service 10/4/2010

When first moving to Austin 2 1/2 years ago I was delighted to find Sew Much More. The personnel bent over backwards to be helpful and they clearly know their merchandise. The classes they offer are fun and challenging with expert instructors to guide and assist you. I have NEVER walked in this store that I was not greeted warmly and given the help I needed - this includes the first few times when I was new to the area and a complete stranger. I would not hesitate a minute to recommend this shop to anyone! more

SO much more! 5/31/2010

My husband surprised me with the wonderful new Bernina 830 for Christmas. It was really a surprise because I had never even looked at it in person- only online. My husband had never been in a sewing store- he just knew the name Bernina (from my old sewing machine) and looked it up. It was only after the holidays, when I started training classes, one on one, and group, and sewing club and embroidery club? that I met a woman in one of the classes and she had bought her 830 at another store, but had found Sew Much More because her store wasn?t scheduling training for her. I went home telling my husband how lucky I was that he had gone to this store to buy my machine and he told me it was actually the 3rd store he had gone to when looking. At the first two, he hadn?t gotten anyone knowledgeable enough to tell him about the machine and he didn?t feel comfortable purchasing the machine. On his third try, he found out all he needed to know, had all his questions answered, and bought it. I have had nothing but good experiences with the owners and all the staff since then. I am so lucky to have their endless support and patience as I learn this amazing machine and its endless creative possibilities. It?s been five months now of frequent visits to the store and I could rave on and on about all the wonderful things I have learned! The summer calendar just came out and I was in the store today registering for several more classes and events. They had a sale and were super busy, but I had great service and they were very patient answering all my questions. I can't imagine a friendlier or more nurturing store! Pros: Wonderful Staff and amazing service more

Best Sewing Store in Austin 3/27/2010

Sew Much More continues to provide the absolute best service in Austin. Their service staff is very knowledgeable and thorough. I will not take my sewing equipment any where else for service. Their also have experts in sewing and embroidery software, sewing and quilting techniques, serging techniques and all the related equipment. If you buy a machine there, you receive free training for as long as you own that machine. Their sewing, embroidery and serger clubs are a great way to learn new techniques, make friends with other creative people and keep up with curent sewing trends and techniques. Sew Much More provides classes in Baby Lock and Bernina projects and they have some very creative staff. Diane designs and teaches specialty embroidery and quilting projects you can't wait to finish. Katie teaches the technical classes and makes the software easy to understand. Mary Kate and Laura can demo any machine and help you find the right machine for your budget and for your sewing needs. Janice is the newest staff member and is quickly learning the products and services. Of course Barbara and Ron make it all possible by providing a great environment for the staff and the customers. It is a happy place to be. You will be happy you shopped there. Pros: Well trained, professional, creative and friendly staff Cons: Not open on Sunday more

Sew Much More is the WORST place for serger lessons! 11/2/2009

I have been sewing for more that 40 years. Recently, I received a serger machine as a gift. I never used this type of machine before & wanted to take lessons on the basics. Little did I know what a mistake it would be to take lessons @ Sew Much More. The instructor, Diane, had absolutely no idea how to use my Baby Lock Serger despite the fact that the exact same model was on display less than 10 feet away in the showroom. Three times during my hour long lesson, Diane had to ask the on-site technician to fix the mess she made of my machine. When she attempted to thread the machine with a decorative thread, the machine imploded. Laura, the store manage, was no help. All Laura did was to remind me that if I had purchased a ""high-end"" serger, I would not be having these issues. I think the $600.00 price I paid was high-end enough for my first serger machine. She tried repeatedly to push her expensive machine threads, telling me that the Gutterman brand serger thread I was using was part of the problem too. (Really???) I had to leave my brand new machine with these people for a week while the damage done to it by Diane was repaired. Bottom line...nothing was wrong with my machine before I brought it to my lessons with Diane. Do yourself a favor, use the instructional DVD that came with the machine & avoid this crew @ all costs! Pros: Lots of inventory Cons: The store manager & the instructors. more

an uplifting experience 8/10/2007

I sew for a living and it was SO helpful for me to discover this wonderful store---First of all, it's beautifully laid-out and inviting---It makes me feel excited and inspired just to walk in the door---there is so much equipment to see and experience---everyone who works there is so informed ,helpful and friendly---everyone knows my name---I really love the serger and sewing machine I purchased there---the financing was easy, the free servicing was appreciated and the transition to a new machine was so easy with the free classes specific to my machine---I really couldn't be happier about my experiences here, and at least 3 of my professional sewing acquaintances have also bought new machines after they saw mine. We are so lucky to have this resource in our town. more

Excellent Customer Service and Inspiration 8/9/2007

I have been away from sewing for a number of years and recently decided to take a quilting class. I took my machine out of the ""back"" of the closet and decided it would probably benefit from a ""tune up."" When I walked into Sew Much More it was as if I never left. I was greeted by my name and Barbara even remembered the exact machine I owned before I sat it on the counter. My tune up was performed in a timely fashion and the machine is running like new again. I look forward to more sewing classes and compliment Sew Much More and their friendly staff for encouraging me to pursue my passion!!!! Pros: Great Service and Customer Support more

Alive and kicking. 5/8/2007

This store is still open. The Bernina shop closed and Sew Much More has taken over the Bernina franchise. They do all the sales and service on Bernina that they've done on Elnas and other brands in Austin for years. Great classes and all the sewing notions you could ever hope for. more

Never Again 2/7/2007

Great Store for all sewing and quilting needs 1/29/2006

I have been shopping in this store for 3 years now. I purchased there high-end Baby Lock serger. I had friendly and knowledgeable instructions and free lessons (all machines purchased in this store come with livelong free lessons). Sew Much More offers great selection of sewing, embroidery and serger machines. They also carry irons, ironing presses and some used machines there. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The store offers variety of great classes and sewing, serger and embroidery social club meetings. Another thing that I love about the store is their new, big location with lots of space to display all the merchandise and very comfortable state of the art training/class area. If you want to create a long term relationship with local store to meet all your sewing needs and introduce you to the community of sewing enthusiasts this is a place to go to. Pros: knowledgeable staff, great service, value for the money Cons: limited brand selecti more

Wonderful store with helpful knowledgeable staff 8/23/2005

I am self taught so my knowledge is limited when it comes to sewing. This store is always willing to answer my questions and even take the time to walk me through the steps if I am not following. They have serviced a sewing machine and embroidery machine of mine with fair pricing. I recently bought a new sewing machine through them as well with a wonderful warranty and they even give one on one lessons for as long as I need it. I highly recommend this store and their staff. They are very knowledgeable and have a tremendous selection to choose from. Pros: helpful, classes, selection Cons: busy at times, Closed on Sunday, comparable pricing more

Non-existant customer service 1/17/2005

This retailer has no business being in business. And with how they treat people, I cannot believe they are still in business! I had trouble with a machine and needed service. My manufacturer listed them as a ""preferred"" service vendor but I was treated so poorly I severed my relationship with them before it was complete. In the three MONTHS that it took to get service, I REPEATEDLY had to remind them of my name, number and what they were to do for me. There was absolutely no follow-through or helpfulness on their part. This retailer cannot be trusted and I would never recommend them. more
