The sauce box is a big glass room with all the liquor in it. Cute. They have a great happy hour, though I'm more impressed by the food than the staff. I'll keep coming back though...

HotBox 5/15/2011

So fun to go into a place with so much energy. Saturday night in this place was electric and cool. We had a late dinner and as we were walking out decided to stay and watch the video djs show. Can't really put my finger on why this place works because it kind of feels like low production, city gritty staff kind of hanging out but holding it together. I would have ordered another drink had my waiter come by sooner but the place was busy. We had a nice dinner in their dining room but how strange to go from a quiet room into their bar with so much going on. Two very different experiences but both were enjoyable. Was a fun night. more

Very Good Place 5/2/2011

This is one of my favorite spots in town. It is my fallback. I like trying new restaurants, but I go to this one when I have friends in town or just want a comfort meal. I was at The Saucebox last night and had another great dinner. Chicken and gingko nut skewers?? I didn't even know gingko nuts existed. It was crazy delicious. Drinks are always good. Happy hour is awesome but I usually eat in their white room away from the bar scene. Servers are always so nice to me :) Nice place. more

Always Good 2/17/2011

This place as been around for awhile and I used to go on a regular basis and it was always good. I had not been there for some time and I just went and again very very good. Happy hour is a good time and dinner as well was excellent . I will continue to be a long time customer. Thanks for the many years of good service. more

An Old Fave! 1/22/2011

Went last night and had a nice time. New menu items are awesome, but miss a few of my old standbys. I had the burger which was very tasty just wish it was bigger like the ones they used to do. Can't really go wrong with their happy hour menu. It is cheap, cheap, cheap and big. I miss the salad rolls and spring rolls, but haven't made it through the entire menu yet to figure out my new favorites. Whoever is in the kitchen now is doing some exciting stuff. I work down the street and hang out at the bar quite a bit. The bartenders are truly awesome. Sean is my favorite. The place has been around forever. It is worth a try. I love it. more

Awsome time for New Years Eve 1/3/2011

Went out for New Years Eve with friends. The music was GREAT( downtempo electronic ). The crowd was a mix of twenty somethings up to us old 40 year olds. Well dressed and friendly. Food was good, but they ran out of a couple of items by 9:45pm on New Years eve?? Thought they would not run out that early in the evening. Service was great and the cocktail menu was extensive and had good variety. This was my first time there and I will go back again in the future. more

Interesting Menu, Nice Night Out 12/5/2010

My wife and I had a great dinner here last week. The food was memorable and most importantly, delicious. We started off with a couple of great cocktails. Then for an appetizer we had the special; quail with a pineapple glaze. It was very good. Then we shared the shu mai; which was really, really good. We ordered two entrees, Java Salmon and the Peking pork dish, and we shared them. They were both very good. I really liked the spiciness of the Salmon dish, not too much. Just right. The dessert menu looked a little out there for me. Not sure about ""Asian"" desserts. I like good ole chocolate cake or a sundae. We decided to just have a glass of wine after dinner. We were enjoying being there. The room was nice and romantic. It was a little bit loud in the restaurant, but the waiter adjusted the volume of the music to our liking. more

Brussel Sprouts=Unbelievably Good 11/26/2010

I have never been a brussel sprout fan but come on! The brussel sprouts in dashi broth rocked my world. I am addicted. I hope they never take it off the menu. I'm in love with it. more

Great happy hour 8/25/2010

Came for happy hour and it was packed! We sat upstairs and thc service was a little slow. However the cocktail of the night was amazing. Prices were good too. Will be going back:) more

Better than I Expected 3/2/2010

I was expecting a rowdy loud experience, but took the option to eat in their dining room and was surprised to have such a quiet, peaceful dinner. After dinner we had a cocktail in the bar. A DJ came on and we enjoyed the show. The crowd was entertaining. Not quite a five star review but not that far from it. Definitely a nice night out. more

Loving It! 2/17/2010

Great Vibe. I love the happy hour. You have to try the asian chicken wings. I go to this place after work at least once a week. It is inexpensive and delicious. What more could a girl want? more

Blah... 2/16/2010

sure the happy hour CAN be decent but even the H.H. food quality can be spotty and dinner is a complete write off. Saucebox started off being about fun and great cocktails then the food stepped up and it was a great place to spend a few hours eating, drinking and quality music and people watching...now...not so much. more

Dinner and VJ? 2/5/2010

I know it sounds funny, but we went here for dinner and as we were leaving we decided to stay because they had a VJ! I know, sounds so 90's but it was a lot of fun to sit and watch old music videos and have another drink after dinner. Dinner was good. Service was good. The atmosphere rocked! Pros: VJ Cons: Portland weather depressing! more

So, so impressed with the Happy Hour 2/2/2010

Been to Saucebox a number of times, but always late night . Love the atmosphere, but drinks can be pricey for my usually low brow range. Finally able to catch their Happy Hour before a show, and I was so impressed. Well priced drinks ($3 Sapporo), and a fantastic food selection, $4 (!) each for a fantastic Miyako Burger and Pork Spring rolls. The Khao Soi was meh, but everything else made up for it. The service was prompt and friendly. The place was full, but the atmosphere was calm and we got our food in about 10 minutes. We came downtown for a show and I expected to be rushed. But the staff was so efficient and friendly, we had enough time to relax and enjoy a well-made Sazerac. Great experience. Will be back soon. Pros: Fantastic, reasonably priced Happy Hour Cons: Khao Soi not so great more

Java Salmon 2/1/2010

My friend has been talking about this place for years and I finally tried it. My salmon dish was great. The ambiance dark and inviting. They were out of my favorite scotch but had a great selection otherwise. All and all, a nice night. I'd recommend. Pros: Java Salmon more

Salty Entrees... and Very Disappointing 2/1/2010

I went to this place 3-4yrs ago and it was so disappointing that I wrote them off. Recently, my friends wanted to try this place and since I was the only one who's been there before, I agreed. Well, I can now say all 5 friends I went there with wrote this place off as well. It was Saturday evening/night, but the place was barely busy (hello, a red flag...), yet it took forever for our appetizers to come, took even more for our entrees to come, but the desert took ""only"" 15min. Sigh. All the entrees (halibut, salmon and pork shank) came out really salty that we really didn't taste anything but salt. Pros: appetizers, easy to get a table Cons: very salty entrees, very slow service more
