Great (1) Meatball Sammich: <none>

Worst

I was fully prepared to love the food based all the comments that I had read. I ordered the sandwich the list of daily specials. It was supposed to be stuffed veal but it was more...

Good stuff 11/5/2002

The dining area is cramped, sometimes they run out of stuff and the line can be long, but I found it worth the wait! The staff is super friendly, and the sandwiches are unlike any other I've ever had. Dining in I had a sausage sandwich with carmelized sweet onions on a fresh roll. To take out I had the Salumi Salami sandwich with gorgonzola cheese and peppers... it was a little oily by the time I ate it, but still really good. I can't wait to go back. Pros: great food, terrific staff, congenial atmosphere Cons: shady area, cramped space more

Different, Good, $$$ 11/2/2002

Good food with a different twist. A little on the pricey side. Too small. People leaving have to sqeeze by those in line. Worth a try to decide for yourself. Cons: Too cramped! more

Seattle Treasure 9/26/2002

Everything this place has is wonderful! The salamis, the pork cheek, you can't get this stuff anywhere else. more

family 9/25/2002

Great great eatery in the heart of Pioneer Square. Friendly and with great food. Pros: great food, inexpensive, friendly staff Cons: no parking, crowded more

Great! 9/20/2002

Standing in line, feeling a little like I was in the soup nazie episode of Seinfield! It is Friday so a lot of people are picking up things for the weekend. Gramma is making gnochi in the front window, mr. Batelli is talking to friends at the big table. Very homey! Although the pasta special I ordered was not what was in my bag when I got home it was great. The meatloaf sandwich was also great. I'll be back! more

A Vegetarian's Nightmare 9/9/2002

Meats so good it'll turn us all back into carnivores. I hesitate to speak such high praise for Salumi as it already is quite crowded at lunch -- and I haven't even been able to get on the waiting lists for dinner. If you eat meat (or are willing to try just once), this is the place to go -- the Metropolitan Grill is for wimps. more

best Italian food in Seattle 8/26/2002

best Italian food in Seattle. bar none. After two years here (after coming from Italy) none of the restaurants could give the feeling of eating in Italy let alone the food quality. Most places are simply a ripoff. However, Salumi gives all three - genuine Italian food, a genuine Italian ambiance and it doesn't rip you off. more

1st time - Not so good 8/2/2002

I was fully prepared to love the food based all the comments that I had read. I ordered the sandwich the list of daily specials. It was supposed to be stuffed veal but it was more like stuffed fat. I know that you'll think I'm being over-dramatic but I've never seen so much fat in one small place. I still believe there is good food to be had here, I just made a poor choice. more

Meat lovers dream 7/25/2002

This place is a dream come true. Meat ,meat and more delicious meat. I had the meat, cheese and olive platter. The cheese and olives were wonderful but the meat was unbelievable. I will be back. Maybe tomorrow for lunch again. Pros: Knowledgable staff, priced well more

Best bang 6/11/2002

Most awesome Italian lunch and take home spot. Started by Boeing ""retiree"" Armandino Batali, who also happens to be dad to ""Best NY Chef (James Beard award)"" Mario Batali. Batali and co. make their own cured Italian meats, including lamb prosciutto, fennel salami, and lots more. The sandwiches, soups, specials, and coldcuts are all excellent. If you like simple, authentic food, you'll love Salumi. Go hungry! Pros: Great simple food, Best value, Best people Cons: Small more

Real Italian 5/28/2002

Owner Armandino cures his own meats here, and they're the best. Salami is my favorite, and there are five or six types to choose from. The Porchetta sandwich is also a favorite, but really, you can't go wrong. Sandwiches are huge and cost around $5 or $6. You won't have a place to sit--there are only one or two small tables--so just get your sandwich and go. I believe you can make special dinner reservations, but you better do so well in advance. more

Perfect place to pick up lunch 5/19/2002

There's not much seating in here, but that hardly matters. The sandwiches are good enough that you can just pick one up and take it back to the office. All of the ingredients are of such quality that it's well worth taking it to go. Pros: homemade salami Cons: small restaurant more
