Amazing Theater 8/17/2009

I went to the Roseway Theatre this last weekend. I didn't know what to expect, but the theater was amazing! Something I find a lot of chain theaters miss out on is the atmosphere. Well they've got it, plus an amazingly clear digital picture. I definitely will be seeing a lot of movies there! Pros: Classic Feel, Digital Picture Cons: None! more

The Secret's Out! 11/23/2008

We have been meaning to attend the Roseway Theater, just down the street from us, for the last five years. We finally got there today and it was a marvelous surprise. May I say, this is the first time I've walked through a movie theater without my shoes sticking to the floor? It was amazing to see the results of the recent renovation; time and money well spent. Now we need to be sure the neighborhood and surrounding city residents do a good job of supporting it. These neighborhood theaters are few and far between anymore and need to be treasured. Pros: All the benefits of the best theaters have to offer but better. Two (more if I had them) thumbs up! Cons: The adjacent parking lot really needs to be made available, especially if we want to fill this theater to the limits. more

BEST theater in town!!! 10/23/2008

$6 movies, free movies on weekends for kids! Perks up the neighborhood like decades ago!! more

Best Theater in PDX 9/23/2008

Went here for 1st time since renovation. Oh MY GOSH! Best Theater in Portland!! Technically amazing. Since I have kids I hope they run some family first run films rather then Batman and Burn After Reading...but cant really complain as nothing else is out for kids. Pros: Recently renovated, priced well, technically best in city Cons: need more screens then the 1 big one more

reviewer below is wrong on TWO counts beside having a wacked out description of the place 8/22/2008

I have no idea what the beyond idiot below got his ideas about the roseway. to begin with, the popcorn is popped fresh daily. second of all, the childs popcorn is nowhere near four dollars. the small is 3.50. the new theater now has digital sound and image quality, air conditioning, better seating and better bathroom conditions. as for losing the ""old charm,"" the new remodel actually restored it closer to the original in that they removed plywood covering the cieling architecture. more

Say it again...this place is awesome 8/11/2008

Anyone who can find something bad about this place needs their head examined. makes no sense...they are super nice people, great for the neighborhood, have great pricing and the best technology around. And the popcorn is popped fresh daily! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

Remodel ruins cool old theater 8/6/2008

This theater USED TO BE super cool with old photos and great charm. The renovation was crappy at best and the old cool charm that this theater used to have is gone. All of the great old posters and black and white stills are gone and it just is not near as cool as it used to be. I went to a movie there last night first one there since the ""remodel"" and I am never going back. You know what the kicker was? The kid size popcorn, which was $4.00 was scooped out of an old popcorn machine, problem is- get this, this place doesn't even pop it's own popcorn! They pour it out of a giant bag into the old machine and ACT like they are giving you theater popcorn like you are used to. TOTAL SHAM! Even the Walmart of theaters, at the multiplex makes it's own popcorn! You want a real movie theater-Go to the Hollywood or the Moreland, they are old school and rock! more

A great update to a our neighborhood 7/28/2008

I went to the 'old' Roseway Theater before it was renovated and found it charming but very shabby and, in the summer, stiflingly hot. Pros: $6 first run tickets, comfy seating more

A Real Improvement 7/26/2008

We love new Roseway! The seats are far more comfortable, the decor is such an improvement, and the overall atmosphere is excellent. We can't wait to go again. more

Amazing 7/26/2008

Went to the re-opened Roseway Theater...its FANTASTIC. Very tasteful remodel and the technology is mind-bending. Thank you Roseway Theater folks for the wonderful addition to our neighborhood. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing we could find more

The Roseway lost its soul 7/21/2008

...too bad, it was such a great place. Gone are the Roseway dollars, the old Hollywood movie art, the real popcorn, about 150 seats and so much more. Yes, the new seats are bigger, but they seem to be at the wrong slant and arrangement somehow. People sitting in front seemed to block the screen view - that never used to happen. Yes, there are new doors that block the lobby light. But, yea gads, there were tons of previews! more

best theater in Portland 7/15/2008

I adore the Roseway Theater and hope that, despite the new paint job etc. under new ownership, it will still have the same things that made it great: a lower price, no annoying lights, a flashback feel of a more classic movie era, and comfortable seats (though that may be a con, since my mother inevitably falls asleep every time she goes to a movie there). more

worth another shot 3/3/2008

I hope to try going to this place again when it reopens, it is now under new ownership, I did not have the most pleasant experience upon my first visit. Cons: service more

nice place 1/14/2008

I've been to the Roseway several times and have always enjoyed it. I love the billboard and ticket window and the lobby reminds me of the TCM and AMC movie channels. The price is cheaper than the larger multiplexes for both admission and concessions and the service is friendly. There's always plenty of on-street parking nearby and the theater sits on the street like a welcoming beacon. It is PITCH-BLACK during viewings and the seats are a little hard but these small misgivings are easily forgivable when taken in the entire context of the moviegoing experience. I have found the crowds to be very mature and quiet during the movie, no babbling imbeciles or incessant cellphoning. The Roseway dosen't fall into the category of helping to keep Portland Weird, it helps Portland stay Portland and should be patronized accordingly. Pros: single screen, large, cheap prices, friendly, nostalgic, easy to get to. Cons: hard seats, pitch-black more

Pitch dark 1/14/2003

The Roseway is the only theater that still goes pitch dark during the show...none of those annoying running lights on the aisles or dimmed lamps on the walls. It really is as great place! more
