Best

I have been going to the Redroom while on business trips to SF for the past 6 years, and still like it. This place is always full of businessmen and some really good eye candy, no...

Worst

The drinks were good, but not fantastic - basically, definitely not worth $11-$12 a drink (or $9 for a beer...!!!???). Music is usually pretty good, but a tad too loud. And, ...

Interesting 8/13/2003

Have been to Redwood room couple times. It's a very good place if you went there with your friends however, the crowd there were usually older, and a bit stuck up. The biggest turn off is their service. I wish they'll have better people working in there. Those waitress and other stuff are definitely not frindly and accomodating. It's very disappointed. Pros: Nice decoration, Good drinks Cons: Poor service, Stuck-up crowd more

4.8! Who are these people? 7/3/2003

I've been going to the Redwood Room for over a year now. It's the perfect place for a first kiss. I once brought a girl from NY here. She felt right at home and the first kiss was fab-u-lous. ;) You will kill a $20 buying two drinks, but there's no cover. Wear all black and you will fit in. The tables are reserved for hotel guests and the cheapest room is over $300. It's always crowded so I like to go Sun-Wed nights when you can usually sit at your own table without being displaced. Don't be a dope, it's expensive for a reason! Celebrities and the rich frequent this place and people watching is first rate. I love to watch the rich and pretentious get drunk. If you want to impress your date, go here. It's one of my top 3 stops for the perfect date. Pros: People watching, No cover, Style & No riff-raff Cons: Expensive drinks more

Am I in NY or SF? 6/10/2003

Great scene. Nice staff. Super pricey, but hey - have a drink and linger. more

Swanky, but definitely overpriced 4/2/2003

The drinks were good, but not fantastic - basically, definitely not worth $11-$12 a drink (or $9 for a beer...!!!???). Music is usually pretty good, but a tad too loud. And, oh, around closing time, please leave when they ask you to finish your drink the first time - for your second "warning", you will be herded out like cattle. It is a very swanky place, though, and a rather upscale meat market, so if that's your cup of tea, and you're willing to dish out the (many) extra bucks for it, it can't be beat... Pros: good music, good decor Cons: very expensive, too loud more

Fun, ritzy scene 2/10/2003

This is an upscale bar, with great ambiance - the art is electronic and changes periodically - make sure to check out the set of couples looking at each other - the eyes move. Beautiful people - great for peopel watching and fru-fru drinks. Definitely on the expensive side, but worth the experience if you enjoy this type of scene. Service sucks though. Pros: ambiance, people watching, great drinks Cons: service, expensive more

One of the best in the City 2/6/2003

There are maybe 3 cool places in Frisco, and this is one of them. Yes... it's expensive, but the food and drink are top notch. If I didn't know better, I would bet that I was in NYC. Modern, Upscale room where people literally take pictures of the awesome bar because it looks so good. It seemed like one of the few places that didn't have the convention crowd... go there. Pros: Great bar, decor, drinks Cons: bring your wallet more

For expense accts and expensive dates 1/21/2003

Redwood Room is the place to go if you miss the old Morgans Bar or Church Lounge in New York. It's chichi and expensive, with lots of model (wanna-be) types and over-the-hill "power broker" types. On the other hand, it's a rather inviting space and the dj's play a mix of good beats. Take a date there if (s)he is impressed by such ostentatiousness or if you'd prefer to check out other people's dates rather than your own. Pros: great space, interior design Cons: crowded, expensive more

Great decor...OK everything else 1/8/2003

Nice looking place with lots of wannabe glamour types (see lots of other reviews by all sorts of frustrated folks), pricey but good drinks and staff which is generally friendly but occasionally rude. Still, its a cosmopolitan place which is just great to go to occasionally (not too often though). If that's not your scene, just go somewhere else and wtop whining. Pros: decor, people, flash Cons: wannabes, expensive more

Beauty and the Beeotch 12/5/2002

I reserved a table for my girlfriend's birthday and made reservations 4 weeks. I love this place because its gorgeous with lots of beautiful people and great music. The Redwood Room called to confirm our reservation of 20 weeks ago. Upon arrival I was told that we had been bumped out of our reservation due to guests taking precedence. Very disappointing but understandable. A manager did not come and apologize for anything. We luckily found space in the front of the lobby to sit comfortably. Several arriving guests went to the hostess staff to find the table and were "greeted" with a rude hostess who barked them and said we didnt have one and to get out of her way. This hotel is definitely luxerious and therefore pricey. With this in mind, one would think that they'd be able to invest in mediocre staff at the very minimum. Very disappointing! Pros: beautiful decor, great drinks, beautiful people Cons: horrible staff, horrible staff, horrible staff more

lux 10/4/2002

a place to dress up and meet for drinks. Note to guys, put on a nice lounge shirt, black pants and shoes, not the place to wear your hawwiian shirt with khakis and tennies. duh. in fact, that look only flies at Jimmy Buffet concerts, which is why I don't go. Pros: upscale, great atmosphere Cons: expensive more

Not worth the hype 9/23/2002

Not worth the cost...the drinks are about double what you normally pay...and you're not allowed to sit down...even if there are seats open!! Once the hype wears down, I'm sure the staff will be much friendlier. more

Ian Schrager strikes again.. 9/21/2002

Go Ian! Ian, the proprietor of the Redwood Room was the once proud partner of Steve Rubel - Studio 54, New York.. Yes Ian used to own Studio 54 in NY. The Redwood Room is sheek although it lacks one thing, good clientele.. If Ian actually let people into his bar he'd probably end up with a lot more fans... Redwood room is cool, now he just needs the cool people to party there.. Thumbs up.. more

Pretty Good Scene 9/13/2002

Visiting from out of town, was very impressed. The bad first: 3 shots cost $27, which I wasn't happy with, but oh well. Overall, the girls were very hot, it was definitely upscale, like something you'd find in NY. Friendly people. Enjoyed it. Pros: Hot women, good lighting Cons: crowded, expensive more

Swanky, Chic & Sexy 8/17/2002

This isn't your father's hotel bar. Redwood Room has old-school wood panelling (amazing!), rich leather chairs and settees and great fixtures reek 1920's class and style. However, the plasma-screen movig portraits, sexy waitresses in li'l black numbers (surprisingly good service) and no smoking laws really make this old-guard bar into an amazing place. The people watching is very good, but frankly too good... almost too cool for most people (except moi). Good cocktail selection. Pros: Gorgeous place, Gorgeous people, Good cocktails Cons: Too sexy for you, Crowded, Pretentious more

rating 10 8/17/2002

great place feels like NYC or Miami beautyful people all over .............................................................. more

sexiest spot in the city 8/8/2002

Great drinks, great service, GREAT people watching! Haven't seen an ugly person in here yet....plush furnishing, sexy lighting (maybe that's what makes everyone so gorgeous), and temptations galore.........what else do you need when you're in the best city in the country? If you're hungry, Asia de Cuba adjacent to this fantastic bar has the most beautiful, delicious food served in a hot, trendy atmosphere. Not to be missed, and not for the "faint of wallet!" Slainte........ Pros: Valet Parking, Innovative drinks, gorgeous overall more

Swanky and Stylish 8/7/2002

I love it. Great swanky place to drink and mingle. more

oh yeah!!! 7/30/2002

This place is great! very romantic and the decor is really interesting and to say the least...sparks up some interesting coversation...haha!! Yeah it's pricey, trendy and all that, but oh yeah, it's worth it. Pros: romantic, excellent food Cons: expensive drinx, limited seating more

See and Be Seen - best of SF 7/29/2002

In town from Chicago - - love SF... very sleepy night life though. This place was the best we saw in four days. "Expensive" a few of these comments say? That depends on where you're from... This place is no more expensive than any other nice place in any other city (real city). Funky atmosphere - def a place to "see and be seen." SF is full of attractive people - and they're here for the time-being. Great drink selection too - more

Be Prepared! 7/15/2002

This is not a place to stop by for a drink...it's a destination. Crowded, pricey and very "in" but no better place to be seen! The men are beautiful and the women dripping in couture it is quite a slice of New York or LA. Don't go if you are not dressed or don't understand the seen, you'll be dissed and leave angry. Pros: beautiful, New York seen, great drinks Cons: crowded, expensive, difficult more

  • The Scene
Ian Schrager, the man behind New York City's '70s glam-club Studio 54, is responsible for putting the shine on this swanky destination. Amid soaring ceilings and polished redwood walls, businessmen scope well-heeled eye candy and vie for busy bartenders' attention. Amorphous wall art appears on a handful of plasma-screen TVs and designer couches line the perimeter, resting atop tiger-striped carpet.

    The Draw
The Clift is a popular place to stay for visiting pop stars, so locals come here to be part of a scene, with hopes of spotting someone famous. The room's centerpiece is a tall, back-lit shelf that highlights the bar's quality liquors, many of which are used in the signature martini drinks, like the delicious Lychee-tini. DJs spin music (Wednesday-Saturday), but this is not a dance club.
