I love to read and really like shopping at used book stores. For one thing I'm cheap, I don't remember the last time I paid full price for a new hardback. And for another, there's...

Great store...decent help 7/31/2009

Ok, I am here frequently and have bought tons of cds and books from here, primarily classical cds. The selection is very good there, prices range from good to a little much, they generally use Amazon as a guide and the trade credit is much better than cash payment. My main complaint are the people that work here, mainly this bald guy who's kind of rude, even to the people who are there a lot, he apologized once, but he's kind of a little too quirky to deal with people in my opinion and help them. more

Trustworthy 4/17/2006

I ama huge fan of used bookstores in general. What I like about readers corner is taht they ahve a large amount of inventory outside, 24 hours a day. So if its 2am, and your looking for a new book you can go make a purchase. They arn't the best books in teh world, but its still nice to know that they are there for you when you need them. more

Exploding with books 12/12/2005

Most people I know call Reader's Corner "that used bookstore with the books outside!". The store is absolutely overflowing with used books, which are mostly sold at 1/2 their cover price (with some exceptions). There is a tremendous range - from cooking books to Michelin travel guides to children's books to classics. This is normally one of my first stops trying to find used paperbacks when they're called for in English classes and the like. In a sense, the store is always open - there is a long set of book shelves along the front of the store packed with an odd assortment of books for a dime each. After hours, it is simply the honor system - drop money into a slot - and all the proceeds go to the local NPR station. Awesome! more

Used bookstore with rare and first-edition books also sells magazines, comic books, DVDs, CDs, vinyl records and more. They have tons of books outside and a decent selection overall. the location isnt all that great but you can deal with it. It doesnt have a whole lot of parking but it has enough. more

A Hillsborough St. Staple 8/2/2005

The Readers’ Corner is my favorite used book store in Raleigh. Whether I’m looking for a recent release or an older title, I find that they’re the most likely to have it. I’ve never sold any books here, but judging from the transactions I’ve witnessed and the selection on the shelves, they seem to be pretty selective about the titles they accept, because I’ve never seen a million copies of a Stephen King or Amy Tan book. They also have an honor system book rack outside, and give all of the proceeds to WUNC, the local NPR affiliate. In addition to books, they carry used records and CDs, with an emphasis on obscure and classic jazz. Also note that Todd, a local public-access celebrity, works here and is way, way cooler than you. Monkeytime! more

Reader's Corner - Lots of books - some super cheap 7/9/2005

Reader’s Corner is one of the mainstays of Hillsborough Street. It is located nearly across the street from another NC State staple, Nice Price Books. Reader’s Corner is stacked from floor to ceiling with good condition, eclectic books. Really, they have something for everyone. Their prices are fairly comparable to other bookstores. One thing that a lot of people love is that they have two walls of books outside the shop – one wall is any book for a quarter, the other one any book for fifty cents. The books out there aren’t exactly high quality, but they will do if you are just looking for something to pass the time. Reader’s Corner accepts books for trade or cash, although in my experience, they’ve been VERY picky as to what they take. more

Independent used books bookstore 7/8/2005

This is one of two used book stores on Hillsborough Street. They're within spitting distance (if you've got the wind at your back) and it is usually worth your time to check them both if you're looking for something. Both stores are excellent in terms of book selection, helpfulness, and science fiction sections. Neither store pays diddly for books if you're selling them though. No surprise there. One of the stores, and don't remember which one, even has shelves outside where you can help yourself to free (or practically free) books. I think there is a donation box and an honor system. So, if you're looking for used books, this is the place to start. more
