I love this independent bookstore! They are the premier place in Raleigh for author readings and book signings. Their selection is excellent. They even carry imported British mysteries and Dover thrift classics (so you can pick up school reading quite cheap!). The selection of reading-related gifts is nice. The staff is very helpful and willing to help track down a book you're interested in. The selection of local authors is very strong. They often have more than one edition of a book available, great if you're looking for a nice hardback edition of a classic or a paperback just for a course.
The children's book selection is very nice; I am particularly impressed with the large variety of board books (including the GIANT board books), bathtub books, and foreign-language children's books.

I went to Goodnight's about a month ago to see Chris Titus. I had so much fun. It is nice to have the option to do something different and this was it. The food was great and the show was hilarious. Just like any busy bar you might wait a little while for a drink, but that goes with the territory. I could probably get drinks a little faster if there were not so many people there, but then the atmosphere wouldn't be so energetic and fun. The seating is a little tight, but again that adds to the feel. I have been to comedy clubs in New York City and the seating is much tighter there. All around the set-up may be a little frustrating but it is part of going to a Comedy Club if I wanted space and super fast drinks I would go to a dead bar or stay home. If you want to do something new and have a blast I suggest going to Goodnight's, but be willing to go with the flow and have a great time laughing like crazy.
Pros: Atmoshpere, Affordable, Something Fun and Different
Cons: Parking and A Little Crowded

I love Rialto theater! Where else can you go to see a great movie in an old fashioned yet retro theater! (With REAL buttered popcorn I may add!) I had never been there before, but will surely go back. Especially since finding such a cozy, casual & comforting restaurant...RIGHT NEXT DOOR! "The Point" is located right next to Rialto & the food is amazing! In fact, the food is so good & reasonably priced, I HAD to meet the Chef. Chef Alan Phillips is fairly new to "The Point" but by no means an amatuer! A person can see Chef Alan takes pride in his work. If you dont have the fortune to meet Chef Alan while at "The Point" you'll surely taste it!
I snuck a peek at the new menu & I must say, there is something for everyone! From they're daily features (just like Rialto) to they're pasta's, seafood & even prime rib on Fridays! Where has this theater and Chef Alan been hiding? Well the words out folks! You've got to try it!
This will be my new date spot for sure! Both "Rialto" AND "The Point" are always hopping...and now I know why. Kudo's to both venues...
Dinner AND a Movie...who would've thought! What a concept!!! :-)
Pros: Great movies, friendly service, nicely priced & EXCELLENT food...right next door at "The Point"
Cons: None yet & I dont see any forthcoming

I ama huge fan of used bookstores in general. What I like about readers corner is taht they ahve a large amount of inventory outside, 24 hours a day. So if its 2am, and your looking for a new book you can go make a purchase. They arn't the best books in teh world, but its still nice to know that they are there for you when you need them.

The Pour House is a club thats a bar, thats a club, thats a bar. really it depends on what day of the week it is. Sometimes there is a cover, sometimes there is a band. most of the time there is a band. 50% of the time there is a cover. I have really enjoyed going here, even though ym review is slightly confusing. This is a good place to see good small semi-no name bands for not a lot of money.

More
Blue Ridge 14 is a staple of cheap entertainment in this area of Raleigh. Having a second-run movie theater is awesome enough, but to have so many different screens is really extraordinary. With the number of selections at "the buck-fifty", as my friends affectionately call it, you can effectively just let yourself be three or four months behind on all your movies and still go to the movies *all the time*. On weekends, you may want to stop by ahead of time and buy your tickets. Notice that all the shows start in clumps at certain times - go in the off time and buy your tickets to avoid the long lines (or having to go kill 2 hours in KMart because the showings you wanted are all sold out). Parking can be quite a pain - be careful, some places nearby have been known to tow!
The only downside: no ATM cards accepted (at least without a huge fee), and expensive concessions (buy Jr. mints at KMart or Food Lion and put them in your purse).
