Pullen Park, located next to North Carolina State University's campus, is an excellent location for family outings. The park has an actual working train that travels the property and can accommodate children and parents alike. The carousel is old-fashioned and still runs. The park has boats, swing sets and play equipment for toddlers and older children.

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is huge! Prices are comparable to other local shops. And ladies, don't fret. Not sure what the last reviewer was talking about... they have females on staff, even on sales, and the place is owned by a woman. So why would women knock women and not take them seriously?!

Some of my fondest childhood memories are from camping out in umstead park. My girl scout troop wuld go on a bi-monthly basis camping in this park. its always a good time, and deep enough in the wood, and far enough away from the city taht you feel like you're really out in nature. They have some awesome trails to navigate...Its a greatway to get out in nature, whether you spend the day or spend the night.

Our grandchildren, ages 8 and 11, enjoy spending an afternoon at Jellybeans with their friends. The employees are attentive and pleasant. We have been there when they have had a birthday party and it was very well run. The children had a great time and felt special for their birthday. They are always very eager to go again and it's great exercise.

I used to volunteer in the paleo lab and the fact that they had a paleo lab is indicative of the hands on approach that this museum takes. They have a great permanent exhibit in dinos, all kinds of animals and plants. But do not miss the special exhibits from time to time. I know they charge admission for those, but they are always worth the price. I was there for the Deep Sea and Space Exploration exhibits.
Also, do not be shy about volunteering for the museum.

At the western lanes, you get to test your math skills by keeping score yourself on paper. As far as I know this bowling alley is the only one in Raleigh, and possibly the universe that doesnt have a computer system to keep score. The result is lots of sometimes heated discussions on how you keep score in bowling. If you don't know...you probably shouldnt play here. I kind of like kicking it old school style every now and then, and on hillsborough street its nearby some bars and restaurants for after bowling frivolity.
