Pierre's Bistro

I had a terrible experience at Pierre's. The food was bland and the service was poor. We ordered the french onion soup, warm artichokes, baked brie, escargot and duck legs confit. The only thing worth eating was the french onion soup - though it was mostly cheese. The duck was dry and the warm artichokes were like a dip you could get at any chain restaurant. Anyone who has been to a great French restaurant knows that this place doesn't cut it. The service also left much to be desired, my date finished his beer before we were done with the first course and our waiter never asked if he would like another one. Do not eat at Pierre's! My wife and I decided to stop for dinner at Pierre's Bistro last Friday. The owner Pierre greeted us as we walked into the restaurant and gave us a nice seat by the window. My wife ordered the Seafood Pasta and a glass of wine. I had the Walleye Pesto soup and the Walnut crusted Walleye with fresh green beans. Both meals were excellent and the service was great. After dinner we moved up to the bar and had a glass of fine wine and chatted with Pierre. I would give Pierre five Star's for his meal and service. We made reservations for Valentine's day and will be back for another great meal. Pros: Excellent food and service. more

Before I dined at Pierres, my impression of French cuisine consisited of three things: overpriced, small portions, and slow. After I sipped the remains of my vanillia latte, and ate my last spoonful of creme brulee, it had dawned on me that Pierre's managed to shatter the steroetypes that served as my foundation for French cuisine . This was by far the most enjoyable dinning experience I've had in the Twin Cities. With a modest, yet classy atmosphere, the servers work extremely hard to get your meals out to you as fast as possible. I felt they were very knowledgable when choosing which wine suited our meal best. The appitizers (puff pastry with brie, and pear salad) were extremely enjoyable. After very generious portions for the entrees, we had the pleasure of enjoying an unbelievable creme brulee. The entire meal was the certainly the most resonably priced for the quality of food we got in the cities. My visit to Pierre's was outstanding. The food was better than any other French Cuisine I've had in Minneapolis. The real charm of the place lies in its small, neighborhood atmosphere and friendly staff. My wife had their baked brie rack-of-lamb, and I had the beef tenderloin and apple strawberry salad; both looked and tasted excellent. The food was tasteless and the food presentation sloppy. The pasta and sausage dish that I ordered looked like a microwave dinner. The food did not have any flavor. Until my trip to this restaurant, I didn't know that salt and pepper were apparently prohibited condiments in the french cuisine. I took leftovers home but ended up throwing them away. \r After the main course we ordered coffee and dessert. The coffee was cold!\r The service was not the best either -- we spent 2 hours at the restaurant -- most of the time waiting for the waiter to come and service us (and the place wasn't even busy). At the end of those 2 hours he suddenly appeared in front of us asking to pay the bill ""because his shift was over"". How incredibly rude!\r The venue wasn't very clean either. You could see durt and dust accumulated on the window cells. \r Overall, you get a very strong impression that customers are the last people the restaurant owner and staff care about. After attending this fine restaurant with my family, I have moved it to the top of my list. Pierre is a delight; he came over and greeted us at our table. The service was stunning, the atmosphere was perfect. We had a bottle of the Cellar #8 and started out with the smoked salmon. I had to order a second one for I have never tasted anything go good! My parents really enjoyed the mussels and mushroom tart. For entree?s we had the Duck Confit (to die for), Olive Salmon and the Lamb special (all fantastic)! Hands down this is my new pick for Best French Restaurant! Thanks Pierre?s for such a great evening, I will never forget it. I can?t wait to come back for dessert! From the appetizers to the desserts, everything is exquisite. Warm French rolls straight from the oven, salads splashed with just the right combination of herbs and dressing, and the incredible sauces! I have dined there at least a dozen times and have always received excellent service from the friendly staff and Pierre himself. The shabby chic decor and cozy tables make you feel as though you've escaped the cookie cutter world of Midwest chain dining and landed at a quirky little cafe in Paris. Others can try to immitate a French bistro, but Pierre makes this the real deal. Quaint, quiet and romantic, Pierre's is a great spot to have a romantic dinner or to meet friends.... and if you want real French food... coq au vin, honey duck or duck confit - you have to have it here! I will continue to show this place off to my friends and relatives until I've tried everything on the menu. The service is fantastic. I recently dined at Pierre's Bistro and I was very pleased with my overall dining experience. The food was delicious!!! Pierre, (whom I met on my way out) is a true french chef! His housemade sauces are to die for. I had the spinach salad with honey mustard to start. The goat cheese that topped the salad was creamy and fabulously rich. I also tried the pissaladiere which is like a flat bread pizza. It was the best french pizza one could ask for. (better than the pizza's they serve at Salut.) For my entree, I had the roasted chicken breast with caper beurre blanc sauce. The tender chicken melts in your mouth and the beurre blanc sauce was very authentic. I felt like I was in a little restaurant in the heart of Paris. My server was a delight. She was very knowledgable about the food and wine. The server made my dining experience fun. It was also a treat to meet the chef Pierre. I will definitely go back to this cute little neighborhood restaurant.\r If you decide to dine at Pierre's, make sure to try the creme brulee for it was the best I have ever had!!!! Pierre's has the best appetizers in the city... every appetizer or salad I have had ( in approximately 15 visits over the past 2 years) -- has been wonderful. We lived many years in France and when my wife and I want to go back in time and experience French cuisine, we go to ""Pierre's""! I wouldn't say we are regulars, but we certainly have several meals a year there. In at least a dozen visits in the last 5 years, we were not disappointed once. This is the real thing with very few compromises. If you are ready to forsake a fast-food type experience, try Pierre's - you will not regret the decision. As I am a French speaker, I had the chance to chat with the man... Pierre. He is extremely friendly, and like his bistro, authentic - a true Bourguignon. I have been driving by Pierre's everyday for the last year admiring it from afar. I finally decided to give it a shot; perhaps my expectations were too high because my experience was a huge disappointment. The place has great curb appeal, but up close it's apparent it could use an update in the decor. The mussels we had as an appetizer were in a creamy tomato sauce and were delicious; unfortunately the wine I ordered to accompany it had gone bad. It was replaced without an apology. Our meals came out immediately after the server cleared our table- impeccable timing. Unfortunately, after she dropped off our entrees, she didn't return until she dropped off the check. Our entrees were mediocre and needed a little salt, unfortunately with our waitress out of site we couldn't ask for it. I would be more forgiving if the place was busy, but she occupied her time re-setting the tables instead of attending to the guests. I wouldn't recommend spending your money here, unless you're grabbing some mussels at the bar and even then I'd think twice about ordering a glass of wine. Pros: Great Mussels Cons: Service more

We had driven by Pierre's Bistro several times and they always seem to be closed. Then when we were driving one day, they finally were open so we decided to check it out. The prices and menu seem to warrant a fine dining experience but the atmosphere and service lead you to believe otherwise. It was surprisingly busy and maybe that was why we waited to receive the wine we ordered 15 minutes after we ordered it. We were sat at a small two person table in between the traffic walkway and it was barely big enough to accomodate our two water glasses, two wine glasses and dinner plates. The food was good. I rated my meal at about a six out of 10. My husband rated his at a 7. Their Puff Pastry w/ Brie and Apricot was yummy. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. Take your money and go someplace in the area where you are guaranteed to be taken care of and enjoy your experience. However, maybe with the spendy prices on their menu, they can train their waitstaff on how to give paying customers a pleasant dining experience and also bring in a good interior decorator to spice up the place a bit. In 4 visits this past year, I and one or 3 others in my party have been extremely pleased with every dish, (pork, beef, salmon, or walleye), every salad, the onion soup, and ohmygosh the desserts. The wait staff are real professionals who can and will answer any questions. more

After reading all the good reviews, me and my boyfriend dicided to try this restaurant. We were in and out of the restaurant less than hour. We have the cheese plate, the goat cheese was old, we also tried the mushroom tart, it was made with some type of red sauce in the middle, the whole tarte tasted like mushroom pizza. Our entree was nothing special. Service was very fast. Overall we didn't have a great dinning experience. more

Pierre's is an unexpected delight ! I sampled several of the appetizers (le onion gratinee, baked brie in puff pastry, and the roast salmon olive). All too often I find poor copies of original French fare in the Twin Cities, but was delighted find Gruyere cheese on top of the gratinee (not Swiss or something else), a light broth, and all of it properly presented. The puff pastry was wonderfully flaky, betraying the labor spent making it. The salmon was also prepared and present perfectly. I teach cooking classes part-time and was delighted with the reality of the cuisine at Pierre's. Truly delightful ! The menu is definitely French style, and a must-try. I tried the mussel appetizer, and I think it is a perfect opening for the main entree, you got to try this at least once in your life. The restaurant is small and quiet...perfect for dates. Also, the restaurant has a very vague store front, so you might have difficulty locating it the first time round. Charming, intimate, good food! We loved Pierre's Bistro both times we are there. New Year's Eve was wonderful - a prixe fixe with 5 courses. We can't wait to go again. The wine menu is decent and affordable. Be prepared to spending a leisurely time here - no fast food! My husband and I love this restaurant! The food is delicious, the service is great, and frequently we can call at the last minute and we're able to get a table. It's quiet and romantic.
