Food is good, service is average, management... very disappointing. I was a fairly regular customer because the service is not bad and me and my wife like the food, until today. I...

Sushi at Clark and Belmont 5/21/2006

A basic Japanese restaurant with quality sushi. The noodle dishes don't seem to be very flavorful and the noodles mushy. The fish used is decent; I have never had any that was bad-tasting, but not as good as the fish used at Sai Cafe. I do however, really like the tea they serve, as well as the Green Tea ice cream. The interior is very basic and seating can sometimes be cramped; seating is also limited (40 people, maybe). Good for a relaxed night out for inexpensive sushi. more

get the sushi...don't get anything else 4/16/2006

I am dating a sushi lover. I don't like sushi. Whenever we do go to a sushi restaurant, I try to find something else, most of the time they have chicken teriyaki, which I love. We ordered takeout from Shiroi Hana. I can't speak about the sushi, but just the appearance of the chicken teriyaki grossed me out. It looked very slimy. I ate some of it since we bought it, but the next day threw away the left overs and we will not go back. So-for the non-sushi eaters...this is not a good choice. more

Incredible value! 9/6/2005

Shiroi Hana is the place to go if you're in need of a cheap sushi fix. They're "sushi for two" includes miso soup, a variety of fresh sushi, and a California roll for each person for just $15 total! You can't go wrong here--everything is really good. The restaurant is small and really cute. Also, if you sign up for their mailng list, they'll send you coupons. more

Cheap Japanese Mainstay 8/6/2005

There are some cardinal rules of dining, or so I'm told. One of them is to never eat cheap sushi. But what is one to do if one wants to eat Japanese food, and on a budget? The solution might be to check out Shiroi Hana. Shiroi Hana has a full range of Japanese foods, ranging from bento box style combination sets to sushi. It's true - the sushi here is only about average, which is appropriate for the price - but the non sushi items are quite good. The best values are their combination meals, which feature miso soup, a bento box set including sushi and a main like teriyaki chicken or beef, rice, and a dessert. This sets you back just over $10, and it's extremely filling. Make no mistake, haute Japanese cuisine this isn't, but it's solid value. more
